Well no-one's stopping them, if that's what they really want.

Do these alleged 29m doses actually exist, as in they're sitting in a fridge somewhere, or are they figures on paper - estimated production over six months, or something?

3asAbird · 24/03/2021 13:14

Daily mail so whos knows if legit

India may send us 5million doses.
That we have enough for 2nd doses don't know if that mean az or pfizer as well.
Irish Crossing ni border trying get vaccines as less than 10% in roi.
I wish we could vaccinate Ireland at the same time it makes sense.
Mentions halix but I honestly think Europe will refuse to send us any az.
The bulk of az supply is made in uk.
Pfizer who knows.
Uk has made public commitments not to retaliate with blocks to components.

UK's was using British Law
Sorry to be a pedant but it is English Law (there is no such thing as British Law)

FourTeaFallOut · 24/03/2021 13:25

This is ridiculous, so now we have been cast as a pantomime villain hiding doses in vaccine plants. And these are the vaccines produced and sold at cost to countries around the world and which were actually assigned to the fucking covax project. Seriously?

They exist. Warehoused in Italy, thought to have been made by Halix between September and now, thus some expired/about to expire.
MarshaBradyo · 24/03/2021 13:34

EU may say it’s not an export bag but the outcome could be stopping U.K. shipments based on our rates and vaccine rollout

What reciprocity are they talking about when they say U.K. hasn’t sent them equal to 10m? Are we expected to in AZ contract?

I know people might not know

Goodness me. So the vaccines destined for Covax (to which U.K. has contributed significant funding) have been held up in the EU and are now about to expire, meaning that poorer nations are now also affected by EU incompetence? And the EU seeks to smear the U.K. implying we were stockpiling these for our own benefit?! That’s just scandalous! What a rotten, corrupt system the EU is!
Haffiana · 24/03/2021 13:39

@UserEleventyNine

From the politico article linked above, quoting a 'non EU diplomat' - the real problem was still the refusal of the U.S. and U.K. — two of the wealthiest dose-manufacturing nations — to supply other countries worldwide with vaccines.

The billions the US and the UK have given to Covax don't count, then? And the UK investment in producing a low cost, easily distributed, not for profit vaccine also doesn't count?

How many actual vaccine doses has the UK given to anyone?
UserEleventyNine · 24/03/2021 13:44

How many actual vaccine doses has the UK given to anyone?

How many actual vaccine doses is the UK required to give to anyone, under any contract the UK has signed?

Exactly.

How many doses has the EU given anyone? How many is it required to give anyone under any contract it has signed?

PersimmonTree · 24/03/2021 13:47

@Lemoncheesecake20. Yes. But you weren't allowed to say that 5 years ago or you got remoaned at.

Skeletons will be falling out of closets soon, Vatican-style.

CuteOrangeElephant · 24/03/2021 13:49

It was AZ hiding the doses, the EU only found out about them recently.

MarshaBradyo · 24/03/2021 13:49

It’s not up to the EU to supply countries it us AZ and U.K. contract. The EU is attempting to block to U.K. linked to success now.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/03/2021 13:49

The EU isn't giving anyone anything. The company AstraZenica is meeting contracts with product it has manufactured in the EU.

Flywheel · 24/03/2021 13:51

If AZ were hiding the doses, and the EU just found out they existed, how is it their fault that they are going out of date. If they really are covax the export would not have been blocked. Also, how are doses hanging around since September. The blocks on AZ shipments were only introduced in Feb. AZ are a total disaster. Such a shame Oxford did not partner with a competent vaccine manufacurer

Clavinova · 24/03/2021 13:52

They seem to really want the Russian vaccine and not Oxford

Not without upsetting the Russian manufacturer in the process;

8 March -
The makers of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine have called on a top EU regulator to apologize for comparing emergency vaccine rollouts to "Russian roulette."

"We demand a public apology from EMA's Christa Wirthumer-Hoche for her negative comments on EU states directly approving Sputnik V," the manufacturers wrote on Twitter.

"Her comments raise serious questions about possible political interference in the ongoing EMA review," they said, adding that their vaccine had already been approved by 46 nations.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Wirthumer-Hoche's statement "deplorable" and "inappropriate to say the least."

How many vaccines ordered by the EU under contract that are manufactured in the UK have been exported to the EU?
Deliaskis · 24/03/2021 13:54

I do wonder how this will play out long term. How attractive and safe will the EU look for companies looking to invest in manufacturing facilities? It's always been relatively expensive to manufacture in the EU, but this now makes it incredibly risky as well.

MarshaBradyo · 24/03/2021 13:55

How many vaccines ordered by the EU under contract that are manufactured in the UK have been exported to the EU?

This is only relevant if you know the conditions of the contract.

Has AZ breached it?

FourTeaFallOut · 24/03/2021 13:57

I can't think that many companies would consider it an attractive prospect to have their product considered a resource of the country it is manufactured in.

Baileysforchristmas · 24/03/2021 13:58

Has the EMA approved sites from the UK for Europe use? It’s never mentioned, just wondered as they are in Russia in the process of checking vaccine facilities there? Did the EMA come to the UK sites to inspect them?

OP posts:
Flywheel · 24/03/2021 13:59

There'll be mass exodus of manufacturing from US and UK and India as well so. All banning exports in some capacity, however you want to spin it.

EasterIssland · 24/03/2021 14:00

BBC
We have an update on a story from the Italian newspaper La Stampa, which had reported that some 29 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine found at a plant near Rome may have been destined for the UK.

A UK government official has since said it was not expecting such a delivery; and the Italian government has said only that “the batches that were inspected were all aimed for Belgium”.

MarshaBradyo · 24/03/2021 14:00

@FourTeaFallOut

That the state can requisition and interfere in private contracts is hugely problematic.

If I order something it doesn’t matter where it’s produced.
