Workman in house no mask

154 replies

JC17fj74 · 22/03/2021 12:27

We have a workman in the house and he hasn't got a mask on 😕
I'm really surprised and when I said to him about it he said he ha had Covid last year and has his jab. That doesn't stop him spreading it though and now I'm really anxious staying in another room while he works.
Has anyone had anyone in there house with no mask on while doing work?
Maybe I'm being over cautious 🤷🏻‍♀️

That doesn’t mitigate you making a malicious (non existent) covid infringment report.

MaxNormal · 22/03/2021 16:55

Given that good tradespeople are like gold dust around here there's no way I'd risk pissing off a decent one by sending them away for not complying with my mask demands.
I quite like my ceiling plaster flat and my tiles straight.

The call handler said it was a valid complaint or she would have said it couldn't be reported. The form is there for a reason!

It’s a similar situation where I am. The highly recommended people are already booked up until June or July! I was only saying to DH yesterday that I’m in the wrong job...

dividedwefall · 22/03/2021 17:32

@blowinahoolie just horrible. I can't believe you admitted on here that you reported your neighbour TO THE POLICE for not wearing a mask in his own car. What is wrong with you?

My DH is a tradesman hes been none stop since before Christmas and booked up months in advance. It seems people are spending money they are saving from not going out or commuting on home improvements. He doesn't wear a mask due to the physical nature of the job, and to be fair the room hes working in is usually empty anyway and windows and doors open, however he does get tested regularly we have a mass test centre nearby. If one of his clients asked him to wear a mask whilst he worked he'd probably turn down the Job to be honest, there's plenty of others in the pipeline.
Comefromaway · 22/03/2021 18:06

The call handler was mistaken.

InkyWinky · 22/03/2021 18:11

@dividedwefall

How can you expect him to work whilst being slowly suffocated. If you are so scared that you need people to wear a bit of cloth over the airways maybe you should just not have work done until you can cope. He has had the jab, he's had covid. What are the chances truly of you catching anything off him. Get a grip fgs.
Do you believe everything that someone tells you?

Slowly suffocating? I've heard it all now. As someone who has had asthma seriously enough to end up in hospital, no one is slowly suffocating wearing a mask. If an NHS worker can cope, so should a tradesman!

Comefromaway · 22/03/2021 18:14

I have to say that many of our tradesmen do work all day in a mask. My firm does a lot of work inside prisons and hospitals and they have no choice.

SingingInTheShithouse · 22/03/2021 18:15

Why are you asking him. Tell him to put a bloody mask on or get out of your house & report him. Cheeky irresponsible feckers 😡

InkyWinky · 22/03/2021 18:16

@ComDummings

Also those who insist on tradesmen etc to wear a mask in the house do you wear one while they’re there? Because I am shocked by the number of people who expect people to wear a mask in their house but won’t/don’t wear one. A family member is exempt, he got to a job and the bloke demanded he wear a mask. Bloke in question was not wearing a mask and had no intention of wearing one. Weird.
I open my windows and have a mask on when trades people have come to the house and expect them to do the same. Those that aren't wearing them, or not wearing them over their nose, are politely asked to do so. My house, my rules and I'm not afraid of speaking up.

So stand up for yourself OP!

She's the self-appointed Covid Police, like lots of people on here. They just can't wait to shop their neighbours, friends or relatives to the police because they're not coming up to their standards of compliance.

Some people are just horrible.

IKR. It's fucking sick. I really wonder what they'll do with themselves after the restrictions are lifted for good. If I had a neighbour do that to me I'd do whatever I could to make them miserable once the restrictions are done.

It was the fact he had a passenger not related to him in his car. We are supposed to be socially distinced.

GiveMeNovocain · 22/03/2021 18:28

You're much safer in another room and keeping the place well ventilated rather than relying on a mask if you want to avoid Covid rather than just have an illusion of safety.

AnaofBroceliande · 22/03/2021 18:29

FFS. You were sitting there spying on your bloody neighbour like some Stasi wannabe.

I think you need to bow out now. You are not looking good at the moment.

I happened to see him returning in the street 🤷 wasn't going out of my way to report anyone.
TheVampiresWife · 22/03/2021 18:39

@blowinahoolie are you still smarting because you were passed over for a prefect spot at school?

Fucking hell.

Looks like it's rattled a few cages. Sorry to OP for the derailment 😬

muddyford · 22/03/2021 18:41

Having had the vaccine does prevent spread. This was confirmed months ago. If it didn't it would be the first vaccine in history not to.

InkyWinky · 22/03/2021 18:44

@freddiesmoustache

The problem is people only assessing their own risk. Lots of people are not personally bothered about catching covid and so won't insist on masks. They're completely failing to understand, or care, that we all need to try and protect each other and stop the chains of transmission.
I agree. By the very nature of this forum, many on here will be in their 20s, 30s and 40s with a nil, or reduced chance of serous illness. So their actions have no consequence to themselves or their children. As ever, we are living in a selfish, world with no regard to the larger society.

This why those in Asia have done so much better, as they place the common good higher, over their own wants.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 22/03/2021 18:51

@blowinahoolie but you did go out your way to report him though, you could have just merrily got on with your day instead of scrambling for the phone to dial 111 (or whoever you called) with a misplaced smugness of superiority

We had a new window fitted upstairs, the guy that did the quote wore a mask. Fitters then wore masks too
