Workman in house no mask

JC17fj74 · 22/03/2021 12:27

We have a workman in the house and he hasn't got a mask on 😕
I'm really surprised and when I said to him about it he said he ha had Covid last year and has his jab. That doesn't stop him spreading it though and now I'm really anxious staying in another room while he works.
Has anyone had anyone in there house with no mask on while doing work?
Maybe I'm being over cautious 🤷🏻‍♀️

Your house, your rules.

blowinahoolie · 22/03/2021 13:45

NDN had work done in their property and the workman didn't have a mask on. They weren't bothered🤷 even reported what I saw. Doubt anything was done as the work carried on for weeks.

whatswithtodaytoday · 22/03/2021 13:45

I would expect a tradesperson to wear a mask, and would wear one myself throughout. Also open all the windows. We've had two plumbers out during lockdown and did this, even on a freezing day.

The jab does help prevent transmission but doesn't stop it completely, and someone going into multiple people's houses every day is a very high risk.

SignsofSpring · 22/03/2021 13:46

I start off myself by wearing a mask if a tradesperson comes round, we've had a lot of work done and that sets the tone. If it's in an area that could be sealed off with doors, then I don't care if they wear a mask but I put one back on to communicate. It seems polite to ask at the very least.

I have to be honest, this past week my cleaner didn't wear a mask and neither did I when we were briefly speaking, I just can't be arsed all the time now, especially as realistically if she had covid, she would spread it over her 3 hours in our house, even with the windows/doors open.

It's polite for them and you to wear a mask, especially if you care, but if you are getting more relaxed as I am, then I just can't get worked up about it, we live in a low covid area and the kids are tested twice a week, it's quite unlikely we are going to get covid from a tradesperson.

freddiesmoustache · 22/03/2021 13:46

@ComDummings

Also those who insist on tradesmen etc to wear a mask in the house do you wear one while they’re there? Because I am shocked by the number of people who expect people to wear a mask in their house but won’t/don’t wear one. A family member is exempt, he got to a job and the bloke demanded he wear a mask. Bloke in question was not wearing a mask and had no intention of wearing one. Weird.
Yes. We've needed a few people in (thankfully all have being wearing masks without needing to be asked) and when I've been in the same room, have worn one myself. I've also had lots of windows open.

Tradespeople are pretty high risk imo, in and out of houses all day. I wouldn't allow one in if they weren't wearing a mask.

Blueappletree · 22/03/2021 13:47

If you have spare disposable mask, ask him to wear it.

Yep, plumber, window fitter, carpet fitter and bathroom fitters.

Bathroom fitters were here a week and I told them if they didn't want to wear one, they didn't have to. Same as all of the other tradesmen.

Didn't give it a second thought and we've all survived unscathed.

RaspberryCoulis · 22/03/2021 13:49

You have a plumber fixing the taps in the bathroom or someone fitting the kitchen and you're sitting in a different room with a mask on? Course you are. Hmm

Maintain social distance, don't follow the tradesperson around, open the window. Masks in your own home??? Never.

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 22/03/2021 13:51

No and if I am having work done I always let them know before hand that they need a mask and it is to be worn at all times and I cannot let someone in my house without a mask as high risk DP. They've always been fine with this and always known not to send a person who is exempt from wearing one.

Tell him to put a mask on or get out.

You may not have survived unscathed though, and with your obvious lax attitude, would probably end up passing it on to others who might be more vulnerable. Letting people work in your house for a week without masks is really irresponsible.
whatswithtodaytoday · 22/03/2021 13:53

@RaspberryCoulis Yes of course I kept a mask on while they were in a nearby room. When they went upstairs we shut the door and kept the windows open everywhere, and took masks off until they came back downstairs. When they left I aired the house for an hour or so.

And there we have it, Phil Cornwall doesn't give a shit about covid. Thanks, Phil.

Barneybear11 · 22/03/2021 13:59

We’re currently having various workmen in and out (4 month project) and no one has worn a mask. I just keep out of their way but I’m not particularly anxious about it anyway.

RaspberryCoulis · 22/03/2021 13:59

@whatswithtodaytoday says that she has a tradesperson in a different room and she's there for other her mask on. Only when they go upstairs does she take it off. Then airs the house for an hour.

Totally OTT and paranoid. Just don't follow the bloke around or snog him.

Justmuddlingalong · 22/03/2021 14:00

When I had someone out to fix my broadband, the windows and back door were already open in preparation for him arriving. I answered the door wearing a mask and he was already wearing one. I went to the kitchen and stayed there for the entire time he was in. I then used antibacterial spray to clean the surfaces he'd touched and left the windows and door open for the rest of the day. It seems a small price to pay in order to keep everyone as safe as possible.

AcornAutumn · 22/03/2021 14:00

I'm really relieved to see some of the posts here
Has there been an outbreak of sanity?

My boiler broke in winter and the engineer arrived with a mask on.

His relief when I told him he didn't have to....poor soul, I really felt for him.

I think Phil is in the vulnerable category like me? Not sure, apologies if I have my posters mixed up.

RaspberryCoulis · 22/03/2021 14:01

Oh and I'm presuming @PhilCornwall1 isn't spending the days following her tradesmen around either. But as per usual in this forum for the over anxious, unless you are wearing a mask at all times and enjoying it, you're killing grannies.

Totally, totally bonkers.

Donotfeedthebears · 22/03/2021 14:09

@MrsTerryPratchett

DH works on a military base. Half of them have tested positive for Covid despite wearing masks. I don’t think masks really work.

They're not magical. If people don't distance and so everything else, they aren't approaching 100%. However they help. Especially in short appointments when the mask is new and worn properly.

They all social distance and wash hands etc.

I wear a mask at my antenatal appointments and if I go in a shop. I just don’t think they work that well.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 22/03/2021 14:09

@blowinahoolie you reported your next door neighbours workman as they weren't wearing a mask? Shock

Reported them to who? What did you expect would be done? How did it affect you in any way?

Wellbythebloodyhell · 22/03/2021 14:11

Who on earth is in the same room whilst their tradesman is working? Leave them alone to get on with the job and stay out the way. If you have an issue with other people in your home don't get any work done.

@RaspberryCoulis some women have fantasies about getting it on with the tradesman don't they, a mask could possibly add to the kinkiness in these covid times I suppose WinkGrin

freddiesmoustache · 22/03/2021 14:15

The problem is people only assessing their own risk. Lots of people are not personally bothered about catching covid and so won't insist on masks. They're completely failing to understand, or care, that we all need to try and protect each other and stop the chains of transmission.

AnaofBroceliande · 22/03/2021 14:18

It wouldn't bother me because I'm sick of all this mask and social distancing. What are people going to complain about when all the restrictions are lifted in June? I tell people who come in here to do as they please. I've had both doses of the vaccine.
