Prince Charles and Camila off to Greece

As the title states they are off to Greece for two days next week to celebrate Independence Day www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a35886831/prince-charles-camilla-royal-tour-greece-2021/

I think this is highly inappropriate and yet again sends the wrong message about travel outside this country. A lot of people would like to travel abroad whether that be for work, holidays or to visit family but are not doing so. Why couldn’t they make a virtual visit? They are both in the vulnerable category, being over 70, and have only received the first dose of the vaccine. Charles has also had Covid. I think this sends the wrong message to many people who have had either or both: the vaccine or Covid.

Poor form. The Irish Taoiseach (prime minister) usually goes to the White House every St Patrick’s Day and it’s a major event, but it was a virtual meeting this year instead.
Only when the Irish public showed their disgust

He wasn't invited to attend in person! He would have gone;

Taoiseach says he will travel to Washington for St Patrick’s Day ‘if invited.’

Micheál Martin says he expects he would have to be vaccinated but stresses invite has not been received.

“At the request of The British Government, Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will attend the Bicentenary Independence Day celebrations in Athens on Thursday 25th March. This follows an invitation from the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis.”

President Macron (and his wife) were due to attend the bicentenary in Greece next week - they cancelled 2 days ago because of the worsening Covid situation in France...

Macron now replaced by one of his ministers;

French Defense Minister Florence Parly and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will replace their respective leaders in attending the celebrations on March 24-25 in Athens, commemorating the bicentennial of the beginning of the country’s War of Independence in 1821. Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. The President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades will also be present at the events, while Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt will represent President Joe Biden.

@Stellaris22

Because they are wealthy and rules only apply to us lowly peasants. They are the royal family, they do as they please.
This.

If you want a royal family, accept that they are better than you and therefore can do what they like.

Did he have covid twice? I remember he had covid before lockdown started, in mid-March. I don’t remember the travel restrictions being in place then.

Don't be ridiculous, you know perfectly well it's never ever been legal to travel to another country while you are actively quarantining with Covid. Even if it had been technically legal, how on earth is it moral or ethical to travel when you know you are actively infectious?? If anyone else travelled while infectious they'd get their arse handed to them. God some people will do and say literally anything to defend the Sainted Royals. Anyway you must have a poor memory. Charles travelled to Scotland after Nicola Sturgeon explicitly said that no one should travel to second homes in Scotland even if they are healthy and not quarantining. For someone to move themselves and their entire staff while actively unwell is beyond the pale!

Charles tested positive in Scotland. He didn't move after getting tested.
But he was already unwell and self-isolating due to proven exposure and being symptomatic before he travelled.

On 10th March Charles attended a dinner seated directly opposite Prince Albert of Monaco. Albert then tested positive for Covid. Charles started self-isolating due to exposure to Covid. After three days of self-isolating he travelled from Clarence House in London, to Highgrove, because it would be more comfortable to self-isolate there. While he was self-isolating at Highgrove he started to develop symptoms of Covid. After becoming ill he travelled to Scotland, where he finally took a test, which was positive.

Who cares when he took the test, that's completely irrelevant. He knew he'd been exposed to Covid, knew he was unwell, took it seriously enough to self-isolate, yet moved household twice and travelled to a country where the leader had said no one should travel!

Charles also travelled to Kuwait last October and did not have to quarantine afterwards.

It's governmental invitation, not personal choice

Different thing of course - or is it? - but it was an "invitation" to the state dinner for the Chinese too, and he managed to refuse that because it suited him Hmm

Still, looking on the bright side, if it's only two days at least Camilla can't bunk off early this time ... though that said there's been a pattern of her flying out early for foreign trips to prepare for some actual work "acclimatise", so maybe she'll get a few days in the sun before Eeyore gets there?

Agree this is tone deaf and insulting to everyone who is trying their best to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Kapalika · 26/03/2021 12:36

It’s work for the RF. That’s part of what they do. They won’t be taking selfie’s holding up spray tan on Instagram #ad.

Diplomacy - much needed at the moment.
