Prince Charles and Camila off to Greece

CKBJ · 20/03/2021 11:33

As the title states they are off to Greece for two days next week to celebrate Independence Day www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a35886831/prince-charles-camilla-royal-tour-greece-2021/

I think this is highly inappropriate and yet again sends the wrong message about travel outside this country. A lot of people would like to travel abroad whether that be for work, holidays or to visit family but are not doing so. Why couldn’t they make a virtual visit? They are both in the vulnerable category, being over 70, and have only received the first dose of the vaccine. Charles has also had Covid. I think this sends the wrong message to many people who have had either or both: the vaccine or Covid.

I honestly don't care if it's "technically allowed" through some loophole. It's clearly not essential travel, and they've broken plenty of Covid restrictions that were not allowed and cannot be excused on any technicality.

Besides they're royals. They're supposed to set a good example. Otherwise why are they being funded to live a lavish millionaire lifestyle and wear bespoke designer gowns and drip in jewels and private jet off to the a mate's private island in the Maldives whenever they fancy it? They're handed extreme wealth and privilege on a plate simple for being born into or marrying into a family who hundreds of years ago were handed a arbitrary position in society for political and religious reasons.

The very least they could do is live up to a basic standard that regular Brits have to adhere to.

fiftiesmum · 20/03/2021 15:11

If Charles has had covid and first injection he is in a similar place to people who have not had covid and have had two injections.

Eaumyword · 20/03/2021 15:23

For me, it's not so much whether he'd be safe or not (not bothered tbf!)
It's two things:

  1. Whether its appropriate to be flying overseas with an entourage, when the message is clearly 'stay at home' and no, it's not essential because it could be done virtually or marked at home with a promise of a follow-up when restrictions are lifted.
  2. Charles should quit banging on about anyone that's not him contributing to a large carbon footprint.
TheRedBalloon · 20/03/2021 15:26

Is he rowing over to Greece, seeing as he's such an advocate for Climate Change and reducing carbon emissions? Or is that just for us peasants?
Disgraceful, and wholly unnecessary. Bit like the monarchy itself.

VenusTiger · 20/03/2021 16:13

@Puzzledandpissedoff

With CDC admitting to 130k cases being put down to Covid and them not being Covid and ONS admitting that the PCR only detects one gene out of three required to confirm Covid - it's all getting bloody ridiculous now

Please could you expand on this, @VenusTiger ? It sounds pretty worrying but I can't find anything by googling ...

At best, it's completely tone deaf, at worst, an affront

You just described the existence of the RF, The Vampire. If Charles cared even a little about "how things look" he might be less keen on taking private jets to climate events, but I can't get too worked up about visiting Greece. I'll be doing it myself the instant we're allowed - except being a pleb I probably won't be

@Puzzledandpissedoff don't use Google anymore (took 11 pages to find any positive info. on Ivermectin whereas DuckDuckGo gave studies on first page) - use DuckDuckGo instead.

The CDC report was also on OAN - here's a link via. Twitter to the news report: twitter.com/maybe60794885/status/1371576621069647874?s=19

The ONS pcr one gene admission is well known (or so I thought) but then I don't watch terrestrial TV at all, haven't done so for years, so maybe that's me not realising now that it's not being reported - you can find lots about this, again use DuckDuckGo - BMJ has an article about it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/03/2021 16:46

Charles should quit banging on about anyone that's not him contributing to a large carbon footprint

Ah, but he likes banging on; at least I hope so, considering the amount of it he does.
He's also on record as saying what utter hell it is to be PoW, so I imagine the poor sap has to get his pleasures where he can, and if that means being a hypocrite ... well, principles are for the peasants like us

MercyBooth · 20/03/2021 16:56

I will NOT be locking down at Christmas 2021 to enable this shit. Or the Euro Or another Eat Out to Help Out.

But this WILL be expected of us.. Id lay money on it!

Eaumyword · 20/03/2021 17:00

I can see the Daily Mail headlines:
"Vaccinated pensioners on 'Urgent Mission' To Greece!"GrinGrin

jessstan2 · 20/03/2021 17:17

They are hardly going off on their jollies, it's an official visit and they won't be there long. Both vaccinated and no airport hold ups. I see no problem.

MercyBooth · 20/03/2021 17:31

I thought it wasnt guaranteed that the vaccine stopped ppl from passing it on. OR maybe that IS guaranteed if the blood the vaccine has been injected into is blue
If not then you are gaslighting.

MrsFin · 20/03/2021 17:45

Not surprised those two have done whatever they like for years without regard to anybody else.

I don't suppose they actually want to go. I'm sure they'd prefer to be at home.
I assume they are being sent, rather than going of their own volition. It's not exactly an island hopping beach holiday is it?

CKBJ · 20/03/2021 19:31

Interesting reading people’s views. I personally think it is a non essential trip and they shouldn’t be going.

OP posts:
Beebityboo · 20/03/2021 19:37

The firm needs a new PR guy, read the room ffs.

Viviennemary · 20/03/2021 19:38

Good for them. They need a break.

willibald · 20/03/2021 19:41

These restrictions need to go; they're turning people into fucking wankers.

lljkk · 20/03/2021 20:22

People have chosen lots of unfair things about how the covid controls happen. I don't know why what PC & Camilla do is different from all the other unfair things that people encourage & like happening.

BonnieDundee · 20/03/2021 20:22

Good for them. They need a break.

So do.lots of us. But we can't. So much for "all in this together" Are we fuck

MercyBooth · 20/03/2021 20:30

I need my hair cut @Viviennemary But i have to learn to live without.

And why the fuck should the rest of us be told we have to lockdown to enable this shit.

winnieanddaisy · 20/03/2021 20:43

Other people ARE allowed to leave the country though . My DIL dad came back from 3 months in Spain last week. All that was required was that he isolated at home for ten days after his return.
Also Prince Charles dad was born in Greece so I can see why he wants to honour their special day .

BonnieDundee · 20/03/2021 21:00

We are not allowed to travel abroad for non essential reasons. And nothing will convince me that their trip is essential

notimagain · 20/03/2021 21:08

Just to be awkward and to quote from the rules I suspect their trip is allowed it's allowed under the following, but they might need a letter from Mum or Dad
Grin

Work travel allowed

"Essential travel for business or official work purposes where it is not reasonably possible to complete that work from home.

This includes but is not limited to essential work or returning overseas having completed essential work, in relation to critical national infrastructure including the national rail network, national security or diplomatic purposes, and elite sports competitions.

Recommended evidence: employer’s letter, professional ID card, confirmation from sports body or evidence of participation, diplomatic mission letter, etc."

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-declaration-form-for-international-travel

As has been pointed out by pp Greece isn't on the red list so managed (hotel) quarantine on return to the UK will not be required, self isolation/test and release etc..

..but yes, all that said, the "optics" aren't great...

Snog · 20/03/2021 21:11

Tone deaf
We don't need a royal family in the UK

VaVaGloom · 20/03/2021 21:26

Racking up unnecessary air miles Charlie boy!

@winnieanddaisy Also Prince Charles dad was born in Greece so I can see why he wants to honour their special day
There are numerous special occasions & life events people have been told they can’t attend at the moment e.g. funerals, graduations and some births.

Charles got to visit Philip while he was in hospital. Again something I know people with hospitalised relatives haven’t been able to do.

None of this is going to increase the Monarchy’s popularity.

Justanotherworkingmom · 20/03/2021 21:29

Work travel is still allowed. This is work travel. They’re hardly going to be sat on a beach.

BonnieDundee · 21/03/2021 00:51

Work that cant be done remotely? Face facts. The royals including PC have been above us mere mortals all through this.pandemic. I remember them all scuttling off to their second/third homes when everyone else (with the exception of stanley Johnson and Robert Jenrick) wasn't allowed to.

Rules for Them and Rules for Us
