Hope social distancing and masks in supermarkets stay

Supermarkets are so much more organised these days. I really hope they keep the perspex screens in supermarkets when this is over.
I'm not looking forward to going back to the hellishh free for all supermarket scrum expeeience that was there pre-covid.
I think showemarket shopping is a much more enjoyable, civilised expeeience under covid.
Anyway, I'm sure the checkout assistants who sit low down don't want to go back to having hordes of customers breathing down on them again.

Why on earth would you want masks to stay?!

StealthPolarBear · 12/03/2021 06:50

What?? I can't hear you!

MarcelineMissouri · 12/03/2021 06:58

Social distancing so you continue to have to queue up outside in the rain and then constantly be doing a dance around the aisles to avoid people or worry you’re going the wrong way? No thanks. And no to compulsory masks as well. No problem with the screens if people prefer them up.

HolmeH · 12/03/2021 07:39

I imagine the screens might stay for a while in some places depending on how much effort they put in installing them. Some shops it’s clearly temporary but some have obviously paid a bit more money on better ones!

Masks, no thanks. As a glasses wearer they are a pain the backside.

Where on earth do you live that shopping is hell? I quite like food shopping! The only time it’s a bit insane is pre-Christmas! Also, none of my local supermarkets I’d say are remotely distanced these days. I was practically queuing to look at the kids clothes in Sainsburys the other day 🙈

@louderthan

I'm honestly not trying to be goady but I don't get the issue with masks. I'm a glasses wearer and I hated wearing one at first but now I've got the hang of adjusting it so my specs don't steam up. I work in an essential frontline role (not retail) and if I'm on site I have to wear a mask for 4+ hours at a time and it doesn't really bother me. I suppose I've just got used to it. If you don't have a health condition that makes you exempt and you're not a glasses wearer please can you say why you don't like wearing a mask? I will repeat: not goady, just curious !! I should state now that I fully understand that some people can't wear masks and I have no issue with that.
I like to be able to breathe fresh air. Not warm air that comes through layers of fabric. I don’t like things over my face anyway, I can’t sleep with my duvet over my head for example. It makes me feel sick, panicky and hot. I can’t talk while wearing a mask as I hate the feel of my own hot breath against my skin. I wear one when I have to currently, I just keep my head down and talk as minimally as possibly in the supermarket. Makes me look like a rude cow but the alternative is that I start to feel a bit sick and dizzy. I would rather not have to feel like this twice a day on the school run and whenever I need to go shopping. I’d love for masks not to bother me, it would make my life much easier. But they do.

You're honestly not trying to be goady but you genuinely dont understand why some people may not like both their nose and mouth being covered? Hmm

HereComesATractor · 12/03/2021 09:26

Anyone who doesn’t wear a mask all the time in their own home knows exactly what the issue is with masks. It’s so disingenuous to say otherwise. If you take it off when you finish work, even if it doesn’t “bother” you to wear it at work, then you clearly know the difference between wearing one and not

Bluebird2021 · 12/03/2021 09:29

They should go everywhere. It’s not fair to expect us to continue working physical jobs through summer wearing them

My glasses still steam up and slide off. I have permanent dry lips, sore throat and a crop of spots

An 8 hour shift is horrible

RaspberryCoulis · 12/03/2021 09:45

The mask fans are perfectly free to wear them as long as they wish, in whichever circumstances they wish.

But I won't be wearing one the a second longer than the law says I have to. Screens don't bother me as much, that's up to stores whether they keep them or not.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 12/03/2021 10:52

That’s the thing isn’t it? People who want to wear a mask can wear one whenever they want. It’s unlikely ever to be made law that people can’t wear a mask. So they will have the freedom of choice.
If wearing masks remains the law, those who don’t want to wear them don’t have any freedom of choice.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 12/03/2021 11:01

It’s a no from me

MrsEWeatherwax · 12/03/2021 11:03

I just don’t want to wear a mask, don’t like it. Once no longer law, I will never wear again. I already wash my hands, thanks. Plus if I sneeze I use a tissue and catch it and bin it!
I will be nice to be able to see and hear again!

bunny85 · 12/03/2021 11:26

What a weird idea, I hate masks and social distancing, it's all so unnatural, can't wait to ditch both

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 12/03/2021 13:22

I think the screens will stay, masks and SD will for a while. It would be nice if people wore them after if they had a cold etc but given many refused to wear them in a pandemic I think that’s very wishful thinking.

WhoWants2Know · 12/03/2021 13:28

I was in the queue outside the pharmacy yesterday and thinking back to before the first lockdown when everyone would crowd in and sit for ages waiting for their prescription. So gross having all the sick people crammed together and breathing on each other.

I'm in no rush to go anywhere that will involve sharing air indoors without masks and sanitizer.

ChocOrange1 · 12/03/2021 13:32

There's no harm in keeping the screens. It probably does make the staff feel more protected from germs but also from dodgy customers. If people want to wear masks I'm sure that will now be socially acceptable but it shouldn't be compulsory

ragged · 12/03/2021 14:26

I hate all the single use items such as masks & other PPE.

Hope social distancing and masks in supermarkets stay
TheOneWithTheBigNose · 12/03/2021 15:53

Caring about the environment is so 2019 🙄. Only Covid matters now!
iamadramallama · 12/03/2021 20:19

I fantasise about the day when I can get a pair of scissors and cut my mask up into tiny pieces, burn it and bury it!!!! I hate the enforced mask wearing (but do it) and can't wait until it's no longer required.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/03/2021 21:35

I look forwards to the day when I can lip read and see smiles again. When I can hear better without the distortion of perspex and a mouth muffled by fabric. I really can't understand softly spoken people now.

I look forwards to my public interactions not being reduced to a quiet weekly food shop late at night to avoid being a social pariah because I frequently go into panic attack from the rapid change of humidity in a mask or visor, often within a few minutes. It would be great to just pop into a shop and get on with it without the fear of being challenged.

I'd like to feel like a part of human society again.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/03/2021 21:36

Oh and I also look forwards to not being too scared to have my smear test, and to be able to book other healthcare appointments.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 12/03/2021 21:51

@BogRollBOGOF me too!! I'm now a year late on smear test, due to not being able to wear one! Doing my own dental too! I must be protecting the NHS as I and my whole family haven't been able to access it for nearly a year! Even though dh pays hundreds in NI monthly!! Xx

Ohnomoreno · 12/03/2021 21:55

Yeah nah.

Whatalottachocca · 12/03/2021 22:12

I can’t wait for masks to disappear. They’ve just made life uncomfortable. The Perspex screens, marks on the floor and bouncers on the supermarket door can’t disappear soon enough for my liking either. As for the people who jump out of the way of others when walking down the road, I’m seriously worried for their mental health. How will they ever cope with normal life again after being so terrified fof the last year? 😳

DelphiniumBlue · 12/03/2021 22:18

Really?
I can't bear it. I used to quite like shopping but it's just a miserable ordeal now, and I can't even get home delivery.
