Hope social distancing and masks in supermarkets stay

Supermarkets are so much more organised these days. I really hope they keep the perspex screens in supermarkets when this is over.
I'm not looking forward to going back to the hellishh free for all supermarket scrum expeeience that was there pre-covid.
I think showemarket shopping is a much more enjoyable, civilised expeeience under covid.
Anyway, I'm sure the checkout assistants who sit low down don't want to go back to having hordes of customers breathing down on them again.

@BogRollBOGOF

I look forwards to the day when I can lip read and see smiles again. When I can hear better without the distortion of perspex and a mouth muffled by fabric. I really can't understand softly spoken people now.

I look forwards to my public interactions not being reduced to a quiet weekly food shop late at night to avoid being a social pariah because I frequently go into panic attack from the rapid change of humidity in a mask or visor, often within a few minutes. It would be great to just pop into a shop and get on with it without the fear of being challenged.

I'd like to feel like a part of human society again.

This. We are social animals.

If masks stayed I could live with it. I’ve got chronic sinusitis so it does make breathing an even bigger issue. (I know I can breath but feel even more stuffy)

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 13/03/2021 11:17

@BogRollBOGOF

Oh and I also look forwards to not being too scared to have my smear test, and to be able to book other healthcare appointments.
You can buy a kit online to do the HPV test a smear test checks for and do at home.
SpnBaby1967 · 13/03/2021 11:34

Where the hell do you shop where you have people breathing down your necks? I dont think I've ever been queuing for groceries and had someone come close enough to feel their breath on my neck Confused

And while we're on it, why is everyone so sure fellow humans all have gross breath? Sure, some people have stinky breath but I dont see everyone as having infected breath I just see other human beings doing a bodily function to keep them alive.

The hysteria on here is astounding!

I wont wear a mask from the second they are no longer necessary.

Oh and the term "masking" when you are referring to wearing a mask and not describing a roll of tape is unreasonable. Masking is not a verb.

likeamillpond · 13/03/2021 11:39

@WhoWants2Know

I was in the queue outside the pharmacy yesterday and thinking back to before the first lockdown when everyone would crowd in and sit for ages waiting for their prescription. So gross having all the sick people crammed together and breathing on each other.

I'm in no rush to go anywhere that will involve sharing air indoors without masks and sanitizer.

Yes to this. Also doctors surgeries. All crammed in with no ventilation.

@Chelsea567

Yeh we love wearing masks for our 8 hour shifts
Pre covid I was in a mask and face shield for 10+ hours a day. Stop being soft.
Donotfeedthebears · 13/03/2021 11:44

I’m very pregnant and finding it hard to breathe in a mask as I’m breathless without one.

I had to attend an antenatal appointment when I had hyperemesis gravidarum and I was “told off” for not wearing a mask whilst vomiting! Er what do you want me to do, vomit INTO the mask and inhale my vomit? They did move me into a room to wait in though.

Just waiting for the MNetters to come along and have a go at me for not wearing a mask whilst vomiting!

Againstmachine · 13/03/2021 12:14

Well bully for you, you obviously chose a job where that was the case, the rest of us didn't.

If you want to continue wearing a mask crack on.

People who say it's only a mask well they are uncomfortable, sweaty give you skin conditions, army condusive to human contact.

Donotfeedthebears · 13/03/2021 12:21

I hate masks and only wear when I have to, I don’t think they really work. One Mumsnetter had a go at me as I didn’t believe in masks so that would stop them working. Okay then....I’m not sure that’s how science works but okay.

I keep a disposable mask in my pocket for the odd times I go in a shop or to antenatal appointments. Unfortunately, for some people, wearing a mask isn’t enough, they want you to enjoy wearing them!

There was a post months ago on AIBU where a poster said she wasn’t going to go to the theatre in a mask as she wouldn’t be comfortable watching a play whilst wearing one for 3 hours. There was a massive pile on of people angry at her for not enjoying wearing a mask. It was bizarre.

faerin · 13/03/2021 14:12

Just do your shopping online if you find the experience of shopping to be hellish and don't want people breathing near you. My fucking god.

minniemoocher · 13/03/2021 14:15

You haven't been to Lidl - yes there's masks but zero social distancing. I don't care tbh as there's no queue to get in unlike the other local supermarkets

I get the very strong impression that some people who were used to wearing masks pre-covid suddenly have a way of feeling special and enjoy the opportunity to behave all lordly about it.

In reality the fact that they wear masks and face-shields all day impresses no one.

Donotfeedthebears · 13/03/2021 15:07

I’m surprised that double and triple masking haven’t taken off like they have in the USA. So if single masks aren’t that effective, are we all granny killers for not double and triple masking?

megletsecond · 13/03/2021 17:35

I've been double masking since December. I limit my trips to the supermarket so it's no bother to wear two.

greengrey · 13/03/2021 17:45

No because I'm sick to the back teeth of queuing to get in - then people not bothering to distance anyway. Might as well just go back to free for all.

Eleventhgreenbottle · 13/03/2021 17:51

I can't wait till it all feels normal again. I think the screens should stay up to protect the staff. I hope that people who feel safer wearing masks have the confidence to continue doing so though, and not get grief for it. I comply with all the guidelines but I do feel sad about the pervading sense that other people are Dangerous.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 14/03/2021 04:00

I love social distancing! I've never liked it when people I don't know get too physically close to me.
I'm not so keen on masks, but don't mind them either. It stops me lingering too long in shops, which stops me over-spending, which is good. If we're asked to wear them every winter in shops I can live with it, especially if it could potentially save lives. We don't know how long vaccine efficacy will last, and they may not be able to afford to vaccinate everyone every year. Maybe just the most vulnerable, and the rest of us asked to wear masks for the next couple of winters. I don't know, but it's possible...

Wellbythebloodyhell · 14/03/2021 05:59

I will be ditching the mask as soon I'm able absolutely hate the things. My only issue with the screens at the checkout is the person serving never seems to push the food down to the bagging area so I'm constantly reaching inside the screen to grab the food thus rendering the screen bloody pointless. I'm all for safety measures but I'm not inspector gadget with 6ft arms!

Or they could charge for it if we can’t afford it as a country. Just like you can have the flu jab if you don’t qualify on age etc.
WanderingFruitWonderer · 14/03/2021 09:25

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss yes, that's a good idea. Then people would have options. I personally wouldn't have the vaccine if it wasn't free on the NHS. I'm low risk, and my lifestyle is low risk. I'm happy to continue wearing a facemask instead in the future. But I know others will feel differently, and each to their own

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/03/2021 21:50

I would pay for it (not that I bother with the flu jab), especially if it becomes mandatory for travel
