How/Where do you think you caught it?

Just that really, I've not seen much on this anywhere.

OP posts:
findingschools4myboys · 06/03/2021 15:33

From a friend who I was in a confined space with for many hours!

pebble7 · 06/03/2021 15:49

We were very ill end of Feb / March 2020, son had come back from a ski holiday during Feb half term.

Tumbleweed101 · 06/03/2021 16:06

I think I caught it at work (nursery) back last feb/march. A lot of the children in the room I work in had coughs and 40C temps, one after the other. A couple of colleagues got 'flu' and I had an odd virus including conjunctivitis around the same time, poorly enough to be off work for a few days. This was just before we thought it could be Covid as it was still meant to be only odd cases in UK.

This is kind of confirmed as my family got covid at christmas - starting with my daughter who had just started working in a hospital with known covid positive cases but although I got a bad cough at same time my test was negative.

I also believe I must have has some low level exposure ar work. Although the children haven't had positive cases some of the parents have.

GlittercheeksOakleaf · 06/03/2021 17:32

Work. I'm a primary TA. Our bubble closed due to a positive case and I started with symptoms 5 days later.

Etulosba · 06/03/2021 19:29

Almost certainly at work.

One of my students lives in Wuhan.

beela · 06/03/2021 19:43

I'm sure it was doing the rounds in my office this time last year. Possibly from my colleague whose wife works in a school and was isolating because she had a cough (this was when just the person with symptoms had to isolate, not the whole household).

usernotfound0000 · 06/03/2021 21:37

We assume through asymptotic toddler DD who attends nursery. There had been a lot of cases at nursery although DD supposedly hadn't had direct contact but the only other place could have been through our online shopping delivery, and nursery seems more likely.

Most likely place for me was the school I work in. Probably from a pupil.

This is based on what I know of situation with the children and their families, and then the number of covid vases thereafter, plus my movements and contacts for the days beforehand.

Abraxan · 07/03/2021 10:16

@Borderterrierpuppy

At work, I am a midwife, the patient infected everyone she met despite ppe though not ffp3 masks.
I'm concerned I caused an outbreak at the hospital I was in. They had be done as 'green' during my drop in centre visit, a and e visit, go,visit and inpatient visit. My symptoms weren't the classic 3 listed, though hindsight makes it seem much more obvious - a non typical symptom sent them on the wrong track so ended up only being tested as routine admission policy. Saw several medics, spoke with receptionists, etc and was in an open ward of 8 or 9. Tested positive next day. I did wear a mask the whole time but even so .... it's bothered me ever since. Especially as some of the other patients were elderly and vulnerable.
Twoforthree · 07/03/2021 10:26

At school. Lots of colleagues and kids also tested positive.

Schools are not covid safe. We were doing lots of extra cleaning at the time and windows were open.

AnguaResurgam · 07/03/2021 10:32

We likely had cases early on, not tested so not sure

DS2 probably caught it first, from an international student on his corridor in university hall of residence (classic symptoms, inc anosmia)

He came home for weekend, and DH got similar symptoms illness, DD and I both felt like we were about to come down with something, but then didn't IYSWIM.

DS1 not here when DS2 was back, and AFAIK he's never had it (never been symptomatic)

NeverTalksToStrangers · 07/03/2021 10:45

I think it's a massive mistake to not be prioritising the vaccination of teachers, nursery staff and supermarket workers and this thread is just proof of that.

I'm not in England and I'm glad my kids aren't back tomorrow reading this.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 07/03/2021 10:46

Oh and I think I had it last march. Likely caught from (idiotic) colleague.

Parentpower20 · 07/03/2021 10:47

School/nursery

MrsBennetsnerves · 07/03/2021 10:52

I had Covid symptoms in March, but a positive test in May so there's some ambiguity around when I caught it. In March, I went out a couple of times and it's most likely that I caught it at a dance class or in a bar afterwards. But I also went shopping and the last time, the shop had a long, slow queue because peoplewere anticipatingimminentlockdown. In May I did not leave the house at all apart from going to a convenience store twice in a week. I think I was probably shedding old virus from the March illness when I tested, but can't prove it.

MrsBennetsnerves · 07/03/2021 10:54

A friend's family all had it more recently and in that case, it was definitely transmitted from a secondary school child to the rest of the household, one of whom needed a stay in hospital.

ChangedName4TheSakeOfIt · 07/03/2021 10:56

DS brought it home from a classmate who's mum knew she had it but still sent her and swore the girl to secrecy. When the girl was sent home after NHS informed the school, she went to be babysat at her 80+ year old grandmother's house. The girls mum told granny she was off school with a cold. The gran (my friend) was furious when she found out. There was no reason for the girl to be there either as the mum is a SAHM.

With people as stupid as this, it's little wonder it's not going away as quickly as we need it to.

Poppins2016 · 07/03/2021 11:00

I caught covid last year after flying abroad for a weekend away with a friend and then socialising with her afterwards, just before the March 2020 lockdown was announced. She displayed symptoms first, then me, them my DS caught it. DH was fine (he either didn't catch it or was asymptomatic).

One caveat, though, I can only make an edicated guess that I had covid as this was before the roll out of testing for people not admitted to hospital.

InglouriousBasterd · 07/03/2021 11:01

This time last year - London theatre.

StarCourt · 07/03/2021 11:04

Supermarket or DD bought it home from school ( she tested negative tho )

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 07/03/2021 11:04

Work (in a school)

ThatDamnKrampus · 07/03/2021 11:04

DH got it at work (supermarket) - he had been off for two weeks (and we had no contact with anyone other than food delivery) and back a week when he came down with it.

Dd1 from DH.

Me and dd2 didn't get it (tested more than once so weren't asymptomatic).

ThatDamnKrampus · 07/03/2021 11:10

Oh I suspect I had it last March - developed symptoms (dry persistent cough, breathlessness, previously controlled asthma out of control for months after) but couldn't get a test because of when it was 🤷🏼‍♀️

IhaveNotBroughtMySpecsWithMe · 07/03/2021 11:12

Paramedics who had been in to see my dad.

Jammygal · 07/03/2021 15:06

At work in a pharmacy - it ripped through us all despite PPE .
