How/Where do you think you caught it?

Just that really, I've not seen much on this anywhere.

OP posts:
PurpleFadesToGreen · 05/03/2021 23:03

No idea, work I guess? But I'd been in 5 different junior schools within 6 weeks before getting it.

7 of us in the household , only I had it.

Lost taste and smell on the Friday but felt fine, tested on the Sunday to be sure, positive result by Tuesday evening.
Cough started Thursday ish?

Wouldn't say I was ill, cough was irritating, but certainly been sicker with other stuff.

Mumtofourandnomore · 05/03/2021 23:19

I’m virtually certain that I caught it in our local big supermarket. We didn’t go anywhere throughout January as I wanted to make a compassionate visit to another country to see my recently bereaved Dad. The only place I went was the supermarket. Two weeks later I arrived in the country and tested positive on my day 1 entry test. I had it extremely mildly - I had a slight congested nose first thing and a bit of a headache/dizziness for a day or two. My dc did not catch it from me.

HazelnutCookies · 05/03/2021 23:25

Supermarket. Hadn’t gone anywhere else

wonderstuff · 05/03/2021 23:28

March last year, had a child with a cough in my class a few days before schools closed, became unwell on the Saturday night. I would have been in close contact with loads of people in the last few days and very close to my husband and children, but I'm not aware of anyone I might have given it too, my family were fine, although could have been asymptomatic, no testing then.

I think its interesting that they think that 20% of people are responsible for 80% of cases, most people aren't terribly infectious but some people are very, very infectious. Problem is at the moment there's no way of knowing who is who.

Porcupineintherough · 05/03/2021 23:31

First time at work from a colleague. That was in March, 4 of us got it. We know what it was because 1 later got antibody testing and donated plasma .

Second time from my ds who caught it at school. That was just before Christmas.

Caesargeezer · 05/03/2021 23:32

From school, I’m a teacher.

hennipenni · 05/03/2021 23:51

Either hospital or patients at home- front line worker.

FreddyTheFlute · 05/03/2021 23:53

Work. In a school. I went nowhere else.

Changechangychange · 06/03/2021 00:01

Definitely work. Covid ward, crappy paper mask. More than 50% of the department went down with it last March/April, and we weren’t going anywhere else except to and from work.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 06/03/2021 00:02

Probably in the NHS where I work.i was completely symptomless and it was only picked up on a random test.

MuddyWalks · 06/03/2021 00:04

Pupil at school.

hopsalong · 06/03/2021 00:10

Interests me too. I got it early last March before lockdown when no one (including me) washed their hands much, and when I was working in a crowded environment with someone who was clearly already ill and coughing. But I was also eating lunch in a cafe every day, commuting on the bus and tube, etc. What amazes me is that anyone in central London managed not to get it then!

Figgyboa · 06/03/2021 00:12

My partner got it at work (he's a private chef, the family he works for had it). I got it from him

okokok000 · 06/03/2021 00:22

I went out once for 20 mins to a local grocery shop. Waited outside and ordered from the door. Was either that, or a delivery. I'd love to know as I have been ocd level careful!

okokok000 · 06/03/2021 00:23

Would add my husband and I have been lucky enough to work from home etc so no exposure there.

BookShark · 06/03/2021 00:24

No proof, but suspect primary aged DD brought it back from school. I've been working from home, caught it over Christmas, so hadn't really been anywhere or seen anyone. But school had sent a few messages about teachers having caught it, but not to worry, they were socially distracting. Hence my best guess...

Purplewithred · 06/03/2021 00:27

Not sure as we were asymptomatic but either dh caught it from a patient (nhs frontline) or I caught it from a patient (frontline volunteer, see fewer patients but attended one v poorly with covid); or possibly from volunteering in the vaccination hub for frontline staff at the height of infections in January.

GinJeanie · 06/03/2021 01:10

From teenage DD March 2020 we think. Quite a few kids in her year had been skiing in Italy at half-term. No tests available then though. She was mildly ill. We were pretty poorly for at least a couple of months. DH still has bouts of breathlessness although it seems to be improving finally!

DavidsSchitt · 06/03/2021 08:09

@hopsalong "I got it early last March before lockdown when no one (including me) washed their hands much"

How do you know that was covid? Were you hospitalised with it?

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 06/03/2021 08:44

My mum got it from work just before Christmas (she's a teacher). They had eight staff members and a child test positive - they think the child was patient zero.

My brother got it in October from his friend at uni (she tested positive, the uni got all her contacts tested and he tested positive but never had any symptoms).

beakyboo10 · 06/03/2021 10:35

Nursery bubble burst so my son was told to isolate and then started showing symptoms, all 4 of us in the house caught it. Luckily we all had mild symptoms this was at the end of January.

louisejxxx · 06/03/2021 10:39

Dp got it from work (they had an outbreak of 20+ cases) and then passed it on to me.

Iamclearlyamug · 06/03/2021 10:49

From my boss at work, unfortunately in my job it’s not always possible to social distance

AgathaX · 06/03/2021 10:53

Had it March 2020 (had a positive antibody test some months later to confirm although it was obvious at the time). I'm sure it was from the supermarket. I still feel a little nervous in supermarkets now, especially when I see the lack of social distancing and those that chose to wear their masks just over their mouths.

Unsure33 · 06/03/2021 12:22

A colleague at work has it , he got it from his mum who works in a supermarket.
