Had the AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday- feel absolutely shocking today

I’m over the moon to be having the vaccine so this isn’t an anti-vax thread and I’d much rather feel like this then have Covid but DP is at work and there’s only so much sympathy I can get via text from my mum 🤣

Anyway had the vaccine yesterday. Felt fine all day just a mild headache. Went to sleep as normal but woke up a hour later absolutely shivering with cold but at the same time I was burning up. Got up and took my temp, 38.3 😢. My hands were shaking so much it was a genuine struggle to do anything, I couldn’t grip anything. Took some paracetamol and settled down on the sofa. My whole body was aching, felt like I’d been hit by a bus. I had to open all my windows because I was just so, so warm and let the freezing breeze come
Over me. This was about 1am. The shivering stopped and I eventually fell asleep on the settee about 5 then my alarm went off at 7.

I’ve been keeping on top of the paracetamol but nothing seems to be touching it now, every bone in my body is aching, I’m getting sharp shooting pains in my back around the kidney area, my knees feel like someone is poking them with a knife and on top of that I feel sick and can’t focus.

I’m a student nurse so needed the vaccine and I’m glad I had it but my god, I didn’t expect to feel this bad. Hoping I’ll start feeling normal soon. Anyone else having/had the same side effects?

There have been a few threads recently about similar. They are probably on the Coronavirus board.

As I understand you should report your symptoms on a yellow form.

00100001 · 25/02/2021 12:43

Fairly normal.

You'll be fin in a day or so 👍

pointythings · 25/02/2021 12:43

Yours are a bit more severe than mine were, but I had all of the things you are experiencing. The first day was really tough, second day was better and third day was achy arm only. It's a normal part of the side effect profile. Hang in there and look after yourself.

Northernsoullover · 25/02/2021 12:45

If you don't feel better by tomorrow take a covid test. It might be the vaccine. You may have picked up covid in the days before you had it. Not uncomment in your profession.

AlwaysaLittleBitTired · 25/02/2021 12:51

As everyone above says. It will pass (unless it's the virus, so keep an eye on it).

I felt the same for about 24 hours, really poorly, dreadful headache and a temp over 38. 24 hours later and I felt normal again.

I hope you soon feel better. Do you track your health in the Zoe Covid App? They are tracking post-vacc symptoms as well now, so you might want to join in?

mommybunny · 25/02/2021 12:54

My DH has the AZ vaccine on Saturday and felt the same from Saturday evening pretty much till Monday afternoon. He is NEVER ill but was flattened by the vaccine. Absolutely fine now.

It will probably pass. Good luck.

KilljoysDutch · 25/02/2021 12:54

I had mine yesterday too - AZ and I feel fine today I was expecting to feel awful since it seems to affect a lot of people badly but the only issue I have is a sore arm and I've been hungry since I had it Grin

Any chance you had Covid before? apparently it's worse if you have.

NotPaloma · 25/02/2021 13:56

My mum felt awful the day after hers but fine the second day. Hang in there.

Yellowhighheels · 25/02/2021 14:01

I felt utterly crap for about 2 days (not fever, more aches, brain fog, exhaustion) but it passed and I've been ok since! Hang in there OP Flowers

Bibidy · 25/02/2021 14:02

My mum felt similar the morning after her vaccination but it passed in a few hours so hopefully will fade for you soon.

caringcarer · 25/02/2021 14:07

Just hot back from having my Vax. I had AZ too. Hoping I will be one of the lucky ones and feel OK. My sister had it a fortnight ago and said she was so cold she could not warm up with CH on high, gas fire on, hot water bottle and on sofa with blanket over her. We thought it might be because snowing outside.

CuriouslyStardust · 25/02/2021 14:09

Yep same here, on day 4 and still feeling rubbish. I was sick on the night I had it, then had a high fever over 40 degrees with delirium. My poor dh didn't get any sleep and was so worried. Today I'm still aching, cold, foggy head, tired and my arm still kills. It's making me dread going for the second dose! It does seem to be quite common to have so many side effects, I can only hope they manage to refine the vaccine over time.

zenasfuck · 25/02/2021 14:13

I felt exactly the same for at least 4 days and it took me a good week to be able to even stay awake for the whole day, so exhausted

NettleTea · 25/02/2021 14:23

my mum and my daughter both reacted this way to the vaccine, and they both had covid last year. I had mine yesterday and was preparing for the worst but so far, touch wood, I just feel a bit wavey davey and my arm hurts a little. I have the very slightest of headaches, nothing to mentions really.
You should be better tomorrow. Incidentally, my daughter had long covid, and the day she felt better she said she had felt the best she had for months

WanderingMilly · 25/02/2021 14:37

Everyone I've spoken to has had this type of reaction with the vaccine, it seems to be worse with those who've already had COVID.
Your symptoms sound just like when I had COVID last year, I have my vaccination booked next week so I'm dreading feeling the same but I'm told it'll pass....and I really do want the vaccination.

SpringisSpinning · 25/02/2021 14:44

day 4 and feeling rubbish??

HandforthParishCouncil · 25/02/2021 14:47

Feeling the same last night/this morning after having it yesterday but starting to feel better towards this afternoon.

YukoandHiro · 25/02/2021 14:48

I felt awful for 36 hours, then just had a sore arm for a couple more days and a mild headache. You'll be ok soon. Load up on paracetamol

YukoandHiro · 25/02/2021 14:49

I just kept thinking, if this is the jab imagine how bad the actual virus would be. So grateful to have had the vaccine!

scpips · 25/02/2021 14:50

I had it yesterday and got a temperature of 39,2 in the night.
I still feel awful but better than last night.
I keep telling myself that I must be making lots of antibodies :)

TayceIsAyce · 25/02/2021 15:07

Thanks everyone. I’ve been asleep all afternoon and I’m fully dosed on paracetamol, feeling less shaky but still feel exhausted, cold and a little bit hazy. And my chest feels really tight as well.

My friend is a vaccinator and she says they were told that the second dose can make you feel worse but she had the AZ as well and didn’t have a single issue, not even a sore arm so it obviously varies so, so much. I’m going to spend the rest of the day on the settee and just try to rest up. I saw on the info sheet about reporting symptoms so I’ll make sure to do that.

Hope everyone who’s suffering feels better soon!

Sorry you’re feeling poop op. Have work been good about you having time off?

I’m having mine done March 6th, not sure which one - I didn’t ask any questions just said yes please when my GP phoned.
I’ve got everything crossed that I don’t feel too rough, or rough for long, as I’m a ta and although I’ve been in M-F during lockdown, we’ll be back to 40 children and I can’t be off.

ineedaholidayandwine · 25/02/2021 17:06

Had my AZ vaccine Sunday PM and all these side effects kicked in in the night, Monday felt lousy, aches gone by Tue but had a slight headache and weak arm, weak arm yesterday, totally fine today.
Hope you feel better soon

partyatthepalace · 25/02/2021 17:09

Really sorry OP, I had the Pfizer yesterday and not a thing other than a slightly sore spot on my arm.

It’s very odd how it varies, but fingers crossed you’ll sail through the second.

ineedaholidayandwine · 25/02/2021 17:10

every bone in my body is aching, I’m getting sharp shooting pains in my back around the kidney area, my knees feel like someone is poking them with a knife and on top of that I feel sick and can’t focus.

Sorry should have said i didn't have these issues, hope it passes soon
