Had the AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday- feel absolutely shocking today

I’m over the moon to be having the vaccine so this isn’t an anti-vax thread and I’d much rather feel like this then have Covid but DP is at work and there’s only so much sympathy I can get via text from my mum 🤣

Anyway had the vaccine yesterday. Felt fine all day just a mild headache. Went to sleep as normal but woke up a hour later absolutely shivering with cold but at the same time I was burning up. Got up and took my temp, 38.3 😢. My hands were shaking so much it was a genuine struggle to do anything, I couldn’t grip anything. Took some paracetamol and settled down on the sofa. My whole body was aching, felt like I’d been hit by a bus. I had to open all my windows because I was just so, so warm and let the freezing breeze come
Over me. This was about 1am. The shivering stopped and I eventually fell asleep on the settee about 5 then my alarm went off at 7.

I’ve been keeping on top of the paracetamol but nothing seems to be touching it now, every bone in my body is aching, I’m getting sharp shooting pains in my back around the kidney area, my knees feel like someone is poking them with a knife and on top of that I feel sick and can’t focus.

I’m a student nurse so needed the vaccine and I’m glad I had it but my god, I didn’t expect to feel this bad. Hoping I’ll start feeling normal soon. Anyone else having/had the same side effects?

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

Do you? Really? Perhaps instead be concerned about your motivation to post snark on something you could have just scrolled by.
Yes, I do, because there are lots of people out there looking for excuses not to be vaccinated, assuming that's for me @RuleWithAWoodenFoot

When I had a reaction I couldn't have bothered to post, so if its OK with you I'll post my response because it don't want this to motivate anyone to avoid the jab.

l2b2 · 26/02/2021 00:33

I've had both Pfizer jabs (NHS clinical) and been fine after both, albeit a sore arm. Members of my family CEV have had the AZ and had nothing more than a sore arm also.

saraclara · 26/02/2021 00:34

I hadn't heard about the side effects when I got my jab. I wish I had, because then I wouldn't have been so worried.

Obviously in theory I knew there could be side effects, but they were basically the same as with a flu jab, and I've never had a reaction to those, nor have I ever heard of anyone having this sort of response to those.

So while I hope these threads don't put anyone off having the jab, I do think they serve a purpose. Though apparently the second AX jab isn't as likely to cause problems, at least now I know not to have any plans for the next day, and not to worry that the fever might be Covid (or at least not if it starts after the jab and lasts less than 48 hours, which is the general guidance)

Throwntothewolves · 26/02/2021 00:39

I had it and was fine until the following evening, just a mildly sore arm. Then all my muscles and joints started hurting, particularly in my legs and lower back. I was cold all day the next day and felt vaguely like I was coming down with something. Initially I assumed it was a flare up of the medical condition I have, but I haven't had one in a long time and it was different to those so I think it was very likely to be side effects. I didn't really want to talk to anyone in real life about it as most people I know haven't had it yet and I don't want to put them off.

l2b2 · 26/02/2021 00:40

A close relative (mid-50s, no risk factors) was ventilated in ITU for many weeks with Covid 19.
Unless you want to experience first hand the horrific stress of that , I'd strongly recommend people just have their vaccination.
There is no way to predict reliably just how severely Covid 19 will affect you, no matter what the anti-vaxx / anti-mask brigade say.

Fontella · 26/02/2021 00:44

I had the AstraZeneca jab six hours ago and so far nothing, not even a sore arm.

However I am interested to read an earlier post that it made her hungry. I have literally just had to get up out of bed and go and make toast and a glass of milk as I am ravenous and it's stopping me from getting off to sleep.

This is not something I would usually do and I had same size dinner as I always have. Not sure if it's the jab that's making me have the late night munchies, but something is!

Willyoujustbequiet · 26/02/2021 01:13

It's scary to think how bad covid actually is if the vaccine floors people..

All the more reason to get it imo

YukoandHiro · 26/02/2021 01:18

@Devlesko If you're shielding, please get it... think of the alternative if you're CEV!

It's only 48 hours max of feeling a bit crummy, and you can plan an easy couple of days and load up with paracetamol.

It's over very quickly. Far better that than a month on a ventilator and a lifetime of dealing with the side effects of that.

TayceIsAyce · 26/02/2021 05:46

Just an update that I feel 100% back to normal this morning, just the obligatory achy arm so I’m up ready for my shift.

To the PP who questioned how I was able to post if I was so ill, I wasn’t on my death bed with my hands chopped off 🙄. Lots of people I know have been fine after having the vaccine and lots haven’t. Anyone who’s looking for an excuse not to have the vaccine will find one no matter what. I was told it could make me feel ill and I still had it because I wanted it and I’ll skip in for my second dose happily knowing I might feel like that (or worse!) again.

Anyway good luck to anyone who’s still feeling poorly, hopefully it’ll all pass soon and all these nice little anti-bodies are loving there new life inside of us!

Despite the side effects i am so so grateful and happy I've had the vaccine, i would happily take a few days of side effects over having Covid and the potential long term issues it brings.
Please don't anyone take this thread as a bash at the vaccines, it's more a heads up you might want a day or so off work and to be prepared.
Smile

moanieleminx · 26/02/2021 08:20

@YukoandHiro

I just kept thinking, if this is the jab imagine how bad the actual virus would be. So grateful to have had the vaccine!
Yes! I am still recovering, the virus really wiped me out. I was not hospitalized but I was quite poorly...

So glad you can have the vaccine too!

Sadly, where I live (non uk) they aren't letting people who have had the virus have the vaccine for the moment. Am hoping it changes soon though.

ArchwayRoad · 26/02/2021 08:25

It's been almost 24 hours since my jab and I've had zero side effects so far. I'll relax if I haven't had any by this time tomorrow, but I know they could still kick in!

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 26/02/2021 09:11

I had the Pfizer on Sunday. I had a slightly sore area on that arm by Monday that lasted a couple of days, but no other symptoms.

My non-verbal ECV DD2 with CP had her first Pfizer three weeks previous to that and didn’t appear to have any symptoms either.

💐 to those who’ve been poorly.

Springersrock · 26/02/2021 09:19

My CEV SiL was really poorly after AZ, but flu-like symptoms - no breathing difficulties or cough or anything like that.

She’s on dialysis so the hospital tested her for COVID to be on the safe side as she felt so bad.

She had her jab early morning and by mid afternoon was feeling terrible - aching everywhere, cracking headache, hot/cold and shivery, fatigue, totally wiped out. 3 days after the jab, all symptoms gone, woke up feeling absolutely fine.

Xenia · 26/02/2021 10:37

I think it serves a good purpose for countries to allow people to write about side effects or the fact they had no side effects. We are grown ups and the UK has a high vaccination rate because we have a choice over having it and because there is freedom to post about any side effects.

I would like more research on how long the vaccination provides you with protection and if you can pass CV19 to people once are 21 days after the vaccination but I am sure we are doing studies of all these things and over the next few months analysis of those who had the vaxx in Dec for example will start to be published.

I have not been offered it yet as too young and not ill.

Smileyoriley · 26/02/2021 13:24

Glad you’re feeling better OP. Most people I know of varying ages who have had either vaccine have had minimal after affects or none, like me after the AZ jab earlier this week.

Parker231 · 26/02/2021 14:05

Good to hear that the side effects are quickly recovered from. I’m sure it doesn’t feel like it at the time but a small price to pay for the protection from Covid and a step nearer your life returning to normal. Can’t wait to hear when I’m having mine!

palacegirl77 · 26/02/2021 14:20

Wouldnt the advice be to go and get a test in this situation? If you have a temperature or cough after a couple of hours of the jab, it could still be covid right? I think id have a test to rule it out, especially as it may render the vaccine useless and put others at risk.

LeSquigh · 26/02/2021 14:40

I have what has become a fairly long thread on here about this. Most people said I was making it up to begin with and I was accused of being an anti vaxxer. There’s plenty of experiences on that one. Hope you feel better soon OP.

lynsey91 · 26/02/2021 15:18

No one should be put off having the vaccination. Yes the side effects sound pretty horrible but I am sure they are nowhere near as bad as actually having covid.

Also lots of people have no problems at all. I had the AZ 2 weeks ago. I didn't even feel the injection. I didn't realise it had been done. I always feel the flu jab.

I had absolutely no side effects and I suffer from fibromyalgia (a previous poster said they suffer from this and felt that made the side effects worse), I didn't even have a sore arm and yet when I have the flu jab my arm hurts for days and I can't sleep on that side.

I know 12 people that have had the jab so far and only 3 have had any side effects

Tootsey11 · 26/02/2021 16:01

I can sympathise, but having had covid twice now, the first time I felt like you are now, for months on end.

Much better to have this coming from a vaccine than the real thing.

Dannn · 26/02/2021 16:24

I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the most unwell I’ve ever felt in my life in the 24 hours after I had the vaccine. Went to bed and woke up the next morning feeling absolutely fine. Also delighted to have had it but was a bit surprised to say the least!

Northernsoullover · 27/02/2021 15:42

@ExtraordinaryQuince

I also have to question how the OP could find the motivation to type such a long post feeling so ill ...
My friends mother was typing me coherent messages when she was dying of covid. She's dead now. However she managed to message me so she was clearly not that unwell. I'm sick of this crap being spouted.
