Had the AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday- feel absolutely shocking today

I’m over the moon to be having the vaccine so this isn’t an anti-vax thread and I’d much rather feel like this then have Covid but DP is at work and there’s only so much sympathy I can get via text from my mum 🤣

Anyway had the vaccine yesterday. Felt fine all day just a mild headache. Went to sleep as normal but woke up a hour later absolutely shivering with cold but at the same time I was burning up. Got up and took my temp, 38.3 😢. My hands were shaking so much it was a genuine struggle to do anything, I couldn’t grip anything. Took some paracetamol and settled down on the sofa. My whole body was aching, felt like I’d been hit by a bus. I had to open all my windows because I was just so, so warm and let the freezing breeze come
Over me. This was about 1am. The shivering stopped and I eventually fell asleep on the settee about 5 then my alarm went off at 7.

I’ve been keeping on top of the paracetamol but nothing seems to be touching it now, every bone in my body is aching, I’m getting sharp shooting pains in my back around the kidney area, my knees feel like someone is poking them with a knife and on top of that I feel sick and can’t focus.

I’m a student nurse so needed the vaccine and I’m glad I had it but my god, I didn’t expect to feel this bad. Hoping I’ll start feeling normal soon. Anyone else having/had the same side effects?

I have not decided if I will have it yet. Do we know if it lasts for 4 or 6 months in terms of immunity after the 21 days? I know that we don't know if having the vaxx will stop you passing CV19 around however.

Anyway I have not even been called yet for it.

pointythings · 25/02/2021 17:18

Xenia the evidence coming out as more people are vaccinated is that all the vaccines currently in use do reduce transmission by as much as 68%.

Duration of immunity is uncertain, but that is more because of the potential impact of new variants of the virus.

Crappyfridays7 · 25/02/2021 17:18

I’ve not had mine either, awaiting medical tests before I go ahead. Am a nurse so it’s waiting when I’m ready. My dad had his a few weeks ago and had same symptoms as op, headache, aches, pains, temp etc lasted 24 hrs then fine. My mum had it on Tuesday and was absolutely fine. I think it just depends on the person unfortunately.
Hope you feel better soon

Theraindropontherose · 25/02/2021 17:21

My Dad is on day 19 of feeling bad; wondered if it could be a coincidence but started an hour or two after the vaccination so think it’s related. My Mum had hers at the same time and had had muscle pain since. But glad they had them nonetheless.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 25/02/2021 17:23

It is your immune system reacting to it. Reaction is shifty but it is a good thing in the long run.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 25/02/2021 17:23

Shitty not shifty

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/02/2021 17:26

I felt dreadful after the AZ but it only lasted for about 24. hours. It came on about 12 hours after having the jab.
I've just booked my 2nd dose and am considering booking AL for the next day

MyCatsSlave · 25/02/2021 17:27

I had mine on Tuesday night and I’m still feeling terrible with headaches, nausea, dizziness, muscle aches and random pains. I’m really pleased to have had the vaccine but never expected to feel like I’d been hit by a bus.

maxbabi · 25/02/2021 18:04

I had Pfizer a week ago and today is the first day the brain fog has lifted, I still needed a nap though.
Symptoms kicked in within an hour I was in bed and barely moved for 5 days. Chills, aches fever cough etc stomach cramps like hell.
I called 111 (as advised by Dr when I got jabbed).
I believe I had covid last March and the nurse said thats probably why I'm so ill. I'm a bit apprehensive for the second one.

goose1964 · 25/02/2021 18:13

I had Pfizer yesterday and I feel like I've knives sticking in my arm , I'm stiff and could shut my eyes and happily go to sleep.

HastySlander · 25/02/2021 18:15

I had AZ yesterday and I too feel like I’ve been run over by a bus. I couldn’t sleep for feeing feverish too hot and cold and a pounding headache. I ache all over as well-hope it eases tomorrow!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 25/02/2021 18:17

I had the AZ vaccine 3 weeks ago now, had one night of feeling poking in the side of one knee but I put that down to MS symptoms or menopause? That's the beauty of being multi-imparired, you can't pin it down to blame any one thing.

Hope you feel better soon, OP.

AcornAutumn · 25/02/2021 18:18

Sorry to hear this OP

I'd say I'm on Day 4 now but have done WFH today. Astra Zeneca. Is this why Europeans have low uptake?

I am extremely worried in case the second one being worse means twice the length of being ill. My low bp has rocketed.

Really don't want second dose now.

Also really hope this is not annual.

CyberPixie · 25/02/2021 18:24

Same. I had awful severe joint pain and aching stiff muscles everywhere. So bad I didn't know what to do with myself. 36hrs later it suddenly disappeared!

I also had temperature, chills, nausea, bad headache and 20 mins after the jab a numb, tingly hand that was stiff, my fingers were bent and I couldn't use my hand for several hours on same side as jab.

MistakenAgain · 25/02/2021 18:24

Do you have health conditions? What is your heart rate? I had similar and was tachycardic. Spoke to 111 and I had about 3 callbacks. They wanted to give me an urgent GP F2F appointment but my HR had gone down so I declined. I would have gone if it was still above 100. All fine now.

MistakenAgain · 25/02/2021 18:27

I felt rubbish for 8 days. Lots of veg and fibre helped. I by chance saw a program on how fibre boosts immune cells so quickly upped it , which helped. Am on immunosuppressants.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 25/02/2021 18:29

Hope you're feeling much better soon @TayceIsAyce. I got the Pfizer vaccine instead of AZ and I had a sore, heavy arm and felt really sleepy and cold/shivery but it sounds like I got off very lightly by comparison.

I had that knee stabbing too as one of my side effects! really random

I had all the temp etc for about 36 hrs. Didn't take pain killers etc, just left my immune system to it and it is fine now.

There's loads of posts on the coronavirus board about this already.

lewes2 · 25/02/2021 18:34

I was the same. AZ vaccine on Saturday pm, shocking all day Sunday and not great Monday, completely back to normal Tuesday. Can't wait for the 2nd jab which I'm told is worse... but super grateful all the same.

LILLYPRINT · 25/02/2021 18:34

My husband had the Astra Zeneca jab 3 weeks ago. Like you, at first just a light ache in his arm, then full blown flu type symptoms. Aching, hot , yet cold at the same time , no energy at all. Felt so bad, he actually went to bed to try and sleep it off. I had the Pfizer jab a week ago today and not one side effect at all. A small ache in the arm for a day or so, but nothing else at all.

AcornAutumn · 25/02/2021 18:37

Oddly, my arm didn't start to hurt till today

I have no idea why that might be - with all the other stuff, I'm glad it waited though!

Parker231 · 25/02/2021 18:40

Everyone reacts differently. DH had the Pfizer jab before Christmas- no side effects. He and I both had yellow fever vaccination two years ago, DH was in bed for three days but I had no effects.

PuddyMuddles4 · 25/02/2021 18:55

I had mine on Saturday, so I'm on day 6 now and starting to feel a bit better. I've had the sore muscles, severe headache, sore neck, joint pain, brain fog, exhaustion, the whole lot. It's not been pleasant but I'm feeling a bit more human today.

CassiaLime · 25/02/2021 19:01

My DH had the jab on Friday afternoon and was wiped out for the whole of Saturday. He's very fit and well (we still have no idea why he was called for it!) and he had to go back to bed three times on Saturday. Headache, feeling spaced out and very tired. He is never ever ill. Had the AZ.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/02/2021 19:02

Poor you, OP, I had very similar. Like a terrible, terrible hangover. I was tachycardic and could feel the blood pounding in my head. I've reported it too. DH had the Pfizer one and just felt slightly cold, enough to put a jumper on, and a slightly sore arm but nothing else.

I think they'll have to tweak it a fair amount as I can't be going through that every year, I haven't had a day off sick for 4 years but would have to for that. (luckily mine happened at the weekend)
