Had the AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday- feel absolutely shocking today

I’m over the moon to be having the vaccine so this isn’t an anti-vax thread and I’d much rather feel like this then have Covid but DP is at work and there’s only so much sympathy I can get via text from my mum 🤣

Anyway had the vaccine yesterday. Felt fine all day just a mild headache. Went to sleep as normal but woke up a hour later absolutely shivering with cold but at the same time I was burning up. Got up and took my temp, 38.3 😢. My hands were shaking so much it was a genuine struggle to do anything, I couldn’t grip anything. Took some paracetamol and settled down on the sofa. My whole body was aching, felt like I’d been hit by a bus. I had to open all my windows because I was just so, so warm and let the freezing breeze come
Over me. This was about 1am. The shivering stopped and I eventually fell asleep on the settee about 5 then my alarm went off at 7.

I’ve been keeping on top of the paracetamol but nothing seems to be touching it now, every bone in my body is aching, I’m getting sharp shooting pains in my back around the kidney area, my knees feel like someone is poking them with a knife and on top of that I feel sick and can’t focus.

I’m a student nurse so needed the vaccine and I’m glad I had it but my god, I didn’t expect to feel this bad. Hoping I’ll start feeling normal soon. Anyone else having/had the same side effects?

I felt like this too. I am quite nervous about the second one and am curious to read of people’s experiences of the second dose..!

AcornAutumn · 25/02/2021 20:50

@saraclara

I had an awful 24 hours after the AZ vaccine. Apparently it's the first dose of AZ that can make you feel crappy, and the second dose of Pfizer that's worse. Though if you've had covid already, the first Pfizer dose can be grim.

So I'm hoping my second AZ won't be as bad.

I am preparing for it to be worse and will try to book timing accordingly!

I have my first jab tomorrow and am mildly terrified after reading this thread Grin

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus

Plenty of threads here.

LouMumsnet · 25/02/2021 21:10

Evening all - we're moving this over to the Coronavirus topic now. Hope anyone feeling iffy is on the mend very soon. Flowers

Downthefarm · 25/02/2021 21:48

For people who do feel unwell, it's normally day 2. Most people fine middle of day 3.

Have you previously had Covud

Not sure who you are asking but I haven't
Nothing sinister! The only people I know that have been really ill after having the vax have previously had covid and been really ill with it.
We noticed it with the four teams across the depaetment we work with.
Nearly all of us were ok except for a dead arm except for those that had been ill.
I was just seeing if this was the case with you.
I hope you are feeling better.

ineedaholidayandwine · 25/02/2021 21:52

Anyone had a weak injection arm? All my side effects are gone and although not good they were bearable. The arm that was injected though still feels week, can't make a strong fist and has a dull ache, had my jab Sunday evening

AcornAutumn · 25/02/2021 21:58

Thanks notacooldad

ExtraordinaryQuince · 25/02/2021 22:02

24 hours and you will be fine. Good to know our immune systems are working.

DeRigueurMortis · 25/02/2021 22:06

My DM experienced similar (DF was fine).

Within 24hrs she was absolutely fine and said if that was a "taste" of COVID she'd still take the vaccine once a week and suffer the effects rather than get "the real thing".

As is she's simply glad she's had it and looking to build her immunity further with the next dose.

Sunshinespacecadet · 25/02/2021 22:08

Had covid March and had Oxford vaccination last week. I felt really ill for four days, teeth chattering, sweating, headache, muscle pain. I went for a walk and was almost crying with pain in my joints. I’m over 60 but normally very healthy with no health issues

HarrietOh · 25/02/2021 22:17

Have a few fit and healthy friends in their 30’s who’ve had it (NHS, carers etc) all reported a night of fever, aches and a racing heart rate but felt better by the next day. None of them have had COVID (as far as they’re aware).

Oh you poor thing, are you 100% now?
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 25/02/2021 22:38

@CuriouslyStardust

Yep same here, on day 4 and still feeling rubbish. I was sick on the night I had it, then had a high fever over 40 degrees with delirium. My poor dh didn't get any sleep and was so worried. Today I'm still aching, cold, foggy head, tired and my arm still kills. It's making me dread going for the second dose! It does seem to be quite common to have so many side effects, I can only hope they manage to refine the vaccine over time.
Well, it's not really the vaccine as such, it's your body reacting snd making the anti bodies. It's doing what it needs to do, embrace it showing you it's doing its job. I feel a bit like my body just said 'ah you know what, I can't actually be arsed!'

Everyone's different. I had a headache (different than my normal one) and felt tired & had some joint pain - but I wasn't sure if it was the vax or my normal aches & pains. Such as they are. I didn't have a sore arm & I didn't get a fever.

Hope you feel ok after.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 25/02/2021 22:45

@doctorboo

Sorry you’re feeling poop op. Have work been good about you having time off?

I’m having mine done March 6th, not sure which one - I didn’t ask any questions just said yes please when my GP phoned.
I’ve got everything crossed that I don’t feel too rough, or rough for long, as I’m a ta and although I’ve been in M-F during lockdown, we’ll be back to 40 children and I can’t be off.

Just warn them because you might need to be off. You need to look after yourself, the world will keep turning. 💐
HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 25/02/2021 22:57

I woke up in the early hours of this morning in agony and unable to move my right arm. Top half of my body red hot but my legs freezing cold and aching all over. Temperature has ranged from 38 and 36 I've no appetite, did manage to eat sausage and chips at dinner but apart from the vinegar I put on the chips I couldn't taste anything else. I've been in bed all day just sleeping on and off. Hopefully it's just a 24 hour thing cos I'm back at work on Saturday and it'll go down like a lead balloon if I phone in sick

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 25/02/2021 22:59

@Cissyandflora. One is a reaction to the drug if you've had a reaction to other drugs you need to speak to your GP

The other are side effects. It's just your body making antibodies. It's normal & nothing to worry about

balkanscot · 26/02/2021 00:02

I had something very similar (had the OAZ jab almost 2 weeks ago due to being CEV - cancer treatment). I started feeling incredibly tired about 6 hours after I had had the jab, just a really incredible tiredness which I initially put down to radiotherapy treatment I was going through at the same time.

Then the fever struck, 38.1. Extremities were freezing but my head was burning. Massive shakes due to fever, could hardly brush my teeth without almost going into muscle spasms! Aches & pains (muscular) all over my body.

Took paracetamol and fell asleep, slept for almost -2 hours. Woke up more or less OK in the morning. Fever had gone but I still felt somewhat tired, so spent the day in bed.

That was it. Took me by a complete surprise as I have never had any reactions to any jabs I have had in my life, including the annual flu jab.

ADealingMummy · 26/02/2021 00:13

My husband had the Astra Zeneca vaccine and was absolutely floored by it.
His temperature shot up to over 39 and experienced uncontrollable shivering.
The next day he felt ok.
It’s better than catching bad covid.

ExtraordinaryQuince · 26/02/2021 00:15

I had same but this is why I didn't post, one day's feeling crap compared to being seriously ill ...

ExtraordinaryQuince · 26/02/2021 00:17

I also have to question how the OP could find the motivation to type such a long post feeling so ill ...

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/02/2021 00:22

Do you? Really? Perhaps instead be concerned about your motivation to post snark on something you could have just scrolled by.

Devlesko · 26/02/2021 00:24

I shouldn't have read this thread.
Supposed to be going next week, have accepted an appointment and now I'm not sure.
I'm shielding anyway, not seeing anyone except dh and dd and they go nowhere either.
