Do people really think this is the road to the end...?! Surely NOT!

Do you honestly think we’re on the road to the end of all this...?!

Here’s how I see things...

New variants will emerge - back into lockdown
Vaccines won’t be as effective as thought - back into lockdown

I’m not sure why people believe that life will be normal by June.

I would bet my house on the fact that it won’t.
We are such a long long LONG way from normality.

Don’t mean to be a doom monger but people really need to keep things in perspective

Suppose people are hanging onto a glimmer of hope....

gigity · 23/02/2021 08:40

I’m not sure why people believe that life will be normal by June

Because they want to believe it, I don't think hope is a hard concept to grasp

Lovestonap · 23/02/2021 08:40

I'll take that bet, what's your address? I'd like to know where I'm moving to.....

milienhaus · 23/02/2021 08:40

You do sound like a doom monger tbh

Racoonworld · 23/02/2021 08:41

Why do you think vaccines won’t be as effective as thought? All data seems to be pointing to the opposite. Data this week shoes they are very effective, more so than first thought. Even with the current new strains they are effective, with scientists working on a booster shot in case it’s needed in autumn.

TwunchOfBats · 23/02/2021 08:41

people really need to keep things in perspective

Do they? Or could they enjoy the now with the information they have - allowing tomorrow to worry about itself?

Violetsarered · 23/02/2021 08:41

@GoneCrazy

To just be disappointed.... I’d rather not. Not in this situation.

Gosh, I'd hate to see it if you were trying to be a doom monger if this is you doing it by accident...

But yes, you're very very clever and can see everything so much more clearly than everyone else. 10/10 and a gold star for you, poppet.

@Racoonworld

Because of the issue with variants.

Why though? because it's a comfort to you that we are not at the end. Not everyone is or thinks the same.

tootsytoo · 23/02/2021 08:43

I agree OP. I'm not holding my breath for anything. I'll believe freedom when it happens.

Thanks....? Hmm

I was just offering my insight, up for discussion.
Appreciate your opinion.

Muskox · 23/02/2021 08:45

OP, what's your reasoning behind predicting that the vaccines won't be as effective as expected? The evidence so far seems very positive.

Racoonworld · 23/02/2021 08:47

@Violetsarered the vaccines work on the current variants. There’s always going to be new variants which is why scientists are working on a booster. Same as they do for flu variants every year, they predict the dominant strains and create the vaccine for it.

gigity · 23/02/2021 08:47

You can't say people are wrong & need to get some perspective but then claim I was just offering my insight, up for discussion. Do you really want a discussion? What is there to discuss since you're convinced your opinion is correct?

Fridget · 23/02/2021 08:49

I can accept there will be variants and there will be an increase in cases, but hopefully not enough to justify a further lockdown, which would only happen if the NHS is overwhelmed.

I don’t know if June 21st will happen, but I’m cautiously optimistic and I don’t think the slightly patronising “not sure why people think it will happen” tone is warranted. I think on this occasion the scientists have been listened to, CW seemed fully behind this plan whereas before he has seemed to be trying to moderate Boris’ comments.

Crazycatlady83 · 23/02/2021 08:51

“The new variants” - increasingly the new variants are all varying in the same way. Making it very predictable for our scientists to change the vaccine. Therefore the new booster vaccine which will be here by the Autumn should be very effective. But don’t let the truth get in the way of your Tuesday morning doom mongering Grin

gamerchick · 23/02/2021 08:52

I see it as giving people hope, we need hope as a species to thrive. Our soul dies slowly without it.

Personally I don't think we can shake this thing off properly until the end of next year.

GlubGlubGlub · 23/02/2021 08:52

Pandemics have to end some time. They don’t go on forever and that’s without vaccines and modern medicine.

We will have to learn to live with Covid, yes, but most people are rational and can see that things are going to improve.

treeeeemendous · 23/02/2021 08:53

Because it's time to end this. Life has to return to normal. We cannot continue like this forever.

Fluffien · 23/02/2021 08:53

Variants are expected, it's the same with flu which is why the vaccine is adjusted every year. There has to be a line somewhere as we will never reach zero, I think some measures will come back now and again, but not a full lockdown.

TwunchOfBats · 23/02/2021 08:54

TBF this is no different to life, generally.

"If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans"
"Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans"
"The best laid plans of mince and men..."

There is a rich quotational history showing how wrong plans can be. And for good reason.

But that doesn't ean they are not worth having, That planning itself worthless.

The end of lockdown (or not) is no different to many other plans we all make and look forward to.
