Carers Allowance/online booking of vaccine

TheGoodEnoughWife · 22/02/2021 20:50

It now states that people in receipt of CA can book online for a vaccine (on the very first page) however when I try I check the 'not health care worker or care worker' and it doesn't let me go any further for booking. Has anyone managed to book a vaccine this way yet as a carer receiving CA?

Our area was really good when the vaccines started we found out one of the local centres had started doing them and managed to book my grandad in straight away. The gp surgery were still saying wait to be called

It must be an area thing

FuckYouCorona · 22/02/2021 23:19

The whole system for this vaccine is ridiculous. I'm having mine tomorrow, I guess because I'm a carer. DH, who almost died of covid last year, is diabetic, has a BMI over 40 & other health needs, has not been contacted yet! I queried the GP surgery, who just said I should think myself lucky. I had covid after DH & my symptoms were minimal so I'd much rather he had my vaccine, but apparently, he can't. Crazy! Hmm

fishnchops · 22/02/2021 23:59

I'm a registered carer to my 16 yo medically vulnerable dd. She's not eligible for the vaccination. I phoned my GP surgery today & happened to ask if I was registered on their system as a carer. I wasn't but they booked me in for a vaccination this week.

Boulshired · 23/02/2021 00:07

That awful, hopefully he will be soon after you. At least if you have it you are unlikely to bring it back to him and he needs you healthy.

Mummyemx · 23/02/2021 02:57

I have just booked mine through the nhs website. It wasn’t letting me yesterday! Hope it works for you all x

Friolero · 23/02/2021 05:55

I’ve just managed to book too. Yesterday it was asking if I was a social care worker etc, tried again today and it put me straight through to the booking page after entering my nhs number.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 06:28

IT HAS WORKED!

Also I have booked both appointments which I wasn't expecting! First on Saturday. So pleased!

I'm booked in for both vaccines now! So pleased. Hopefully by the time dc's go back to school I'll have built up some immunity in that week?

Shame dh, who I'm carer for and is in group 6 isn't eligible yet but I'll keep trying.

Frozenintime · 23/02/2021 07:10

Brilliant yes it's worked 👍

Spikeyball · 23/02/2021 07:19

It let me in but the nearest centre showing is over an hour away although I know there is a hub 15 mins away.

HandforthParishCouncil · 23/02/2021 07:25

Excellent I'm in Grin

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 23/02/2021 07:28

I dont get careers allowance but i get the carers element of universal credit and disabled child element and ds gets dla, im not sure im registered as a carer with my GP as my son isnt yet diagnosed (going through the process now) would that make me eligible for group 6?

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 07:37

@smilingthroughgrittedteeth you don't need to be receiving CA to be a carer in group six, this is just to be able to book online.

Definitely call/email your GP and get coded as a carer. Then the GP should call you for your jab.

Got this Saturday which is a relief. No wonder the numbers are low, tomorrow was completely available all day and all times.

Sadless · 23/02/2021 07:42

I have just checked the booking website and its now got carers allowance on in Lancashire can book for Saturday.

Sal

ILookAtTheFloor · 23/02/2021 07:47

I was checking it daily for my mum who is 64. It changed to eligible on Saturday and she got her jab yesterday but they asked her if she was a carer! She said yes as she does live with my 94yo nan so technically it's true. I see the website has now officially updated to 64 and over.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 07:54

Yes I noticed that too. It was 65 and older wasn't it? Now 64.

I could have had tomorrow, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday so it doesn't feel like they are too busy! Hoping dh might be able to get his if he comes along.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 23/02/2021 07:59

Finally managed to book online!! Getting jabbed on Friday, plus booked for 11 weeks later. Such a huge relief. It means dd will have to miss going back to school straight away but I've come this far - no point rushing and cocking it up now Grin

DinosaurDiana · 23/02/2021 08:08

It’s not supposed to be just those in receipt of carers allowance though, it’s meant to be if you care for someone who is in receipt of a carers allowance.
My DH is registered as a carer for his dad with our GP but my DH doesn’t receive CA, his dad does.
My DH can’t book on line.

StormyInTheNorth · 23/02/2021 08:10

On the NHS site it is letting me book in. I am a carer but had no letter. Does it go off your NHS number? I don't want to go and be turned away.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 08:16

@DinosaurDiana your dh should be called by his GP as a carer in group six. Not sure what you mean regarding the CA though.

@StormyInTheNorth you won't be turned away now you are booked. I noticed it isn't asking for any proof when you go. Just booking reference and a mask is suggested.

OP posts:
Spikeyball · 23/02/2021 08:18

It's only letting those who get carers allowance book because dh tried with his number and it didn't let him through so if you are able to book you shouldn't need proof. We are waiting until dh can book his.

Spikeyball · 23/02/2021 08:19

In case they won't allow it for 2 carers as he is more essential.
