This is the first time I have actually believed it

I'm a little skeptical that it will all pan out quite as smoothly as they hope but if it does ill be bloody delighted.

I was a bit Hmm about people on here saying they were crying at the announcement earlier, but then I switched on the 6pm news and saw the update about the RL vaccine effectiveness data and sobbed.

MagicSummer · 22/02/2021 18:31

I have to say I shed a few tears when I heard about the dates of re-opening. I just hope it all goes well.

I think we have all been holding emotions in check for so long - if we really do dispense with most restrictions from 21st June, there is going to be such national rejoicing and happiness, unlike anything we have seen before.

Thewiseoneincognito · 22/02/2021 18:33

Just gently reminding everyone not to get too excited- cases are rising slowly around Europe again. A lot of the dates in the plan are all based on the numbers and could possibly be just another carrot dangling. All I’m saying is to keep an open mind and don’t get swept up into the it’s over frenzy.

littlepattilou · 22/02/2021 18:33

I am feeling reaaaaallllly good right now.

PLEASE GOD, PLEASE........ no more setbacks.

For allour sakes.

@Ch3rish

I just hope that this doesn't lead to everyone thinking it's over and gong back to normal too soon, we still have a ways to go
Judging by another active thread right now, I wouldn't get your hopes up too much.
Dongdingdong · 22/02/2021 18:36

Not surprising considering the EU messed up the vaccine rollout big time.

Here meanwhile, it’s back to normal life in a few short months, wahey!!!!!!

Not gonna lie, it's making me feel quite emotional to think the light at the end of the tunnel is much brighter right now.

As a few people have said, it's best to not get tooooo excited, as we have been let down SO many times this past 3-4 months!

Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Oh bore off. It’s over!!!!

sammyjoanne · 22/02/2021 18:38

Its best to be cautiously optimistic. Im sure it will take place but dont take the dates set in stone. The stages might get stretched if the case figures dont come down enough

Dustyboots · 22/02/2021 18:38

I can't get my hopes up. Not sure which thread you mean @endlesswicker

How can people let themselves be played like this. Are you all so mindless and forgetful? It's worrying how many people hang on every fictitious piece of latest 'news' our PM brings?

It will all change by next week.

@Mally2020

Still completey ignored and abandoned all students still stuck in halls and uni cities though, we have been stuck here for months not able to go home, don't have bubbles because we haven't met anyone new nor have we even been to our universities yet. Boris told us it was okay to return back to uni accom for the new term then to put us in a lockdown. I think there will be an increase in mental health issues and suicide attempts over the next few months for young people.
My experience is relatively limited I know but I have three current uni students in my family, all at different unis, one Wales, two different ones in England, none of them have been told or encouraged in any way to go back since early December. Quite the opposite. It’s an absolutely awful situation for students and mine are all still paying for their accommodation in full but they have at least been home.
therealteamdebbie · 22/02/2021 18:42

Dongdingdong

lord knows how people like you would have ever handled a real lockdown!

I am making the most of overseas holidays every time the borders open, but even I am not completely deluded that it's all over!

I take it you didn't see the news last week then. Turns out that the EU didn't mess up, they got shafted. They signed their contract with AstraZeneca and paid in full BEFORE the UK did. And that's why they are so angry about it.
Dongdingdong · 22/02/2021 18:43

and here we go already... when will people ever learn.

Listen, I get there are some people on here who want to remain in lockdown for the next five years, WFH forever, spread doom and gloom and tell people it’ll be never be over. But I’m afraid your time is up! Grin

Oh stop being so negative. Numbers are coming down, if they stay down/manageable the restrictions are lifted it isn’t that hard surely. It's good news y'know.

Yep

Although they can stay home still no one will care

Jackie2022 · 22/02/2021 18:45

Pretty much every post of yours that I've seen is pessimistic and even downright doom mongering. We all know that our optimism has to be served with a tiny side order of caution but you know what? For the first time in months, there actually is reason for that optimism. Let us have that.

Cases are rising around Europe because they’re not vaccinating. They’re going down and down in Israel which is the only country in the world that’s vaccinating faster than the UK.

I'm not even watching, I'm just seeing the breaking news. I'll watch the PM later, and if I bump into him in a nightclub over the summer who knows what might happen
He has a habit of wooing and impregnating women so I'd be careful if I were you. He has like 50 love children 😄
