No they will still have variants, the odd days bad data to try and strike panic about.

I even saw a post today saying it was the end of the United kingdom 😂 As in Sturgeon and her cunning plan. Which boris will fail to stop.

Oh happy dayGrin

HoneyIShrunkMyAss · 22/02/2021 21:35

Imagine the day we can scrap masks!

RubyViolet · 22/02/2021 21:36

I am not sure l believe the plan is real.
Remember, the LOCAL ELECTIONS are in May.
Could we be being made promises that they know they can’t keep because this is campaigning.
I really hope not.
But it suits the Conservatives to paint a very positive picture just in time for us to vote for them.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/02/2021 21:40

I would like to know one thing though - what are the doommongers going to moan about now?

That's an easy one ... climate

Prepare to be told, having avoiding flying and much else for a year, that it's really vital we carry on doing it or we're all going to DIIIIEEEE!!!!
No doubt all those ER activists have been bored too, so good luck getting to Heathrow once they get the bit between their teeth again Wink

Oh yes, of course! And you never know - Trump might run again in 2024 Wink

Ruby there are three unlocking stages planned before the local elections. I’m sure that it’s factored into their calculations, but it’s not as if the elections are next week and they can wait until they’ve won them and then say Fooled you! and lock everything down again/cancel all the planned unlockings. It’s not as if there’s a mass plan for advanced postal voting either. If we don’t get the long list of specific relaxations “promised” between now and 6th May then people will stand with their pencils in hand in the booth and say “fucking Tories, can’t trust a thing they say”.

I grant you that the things on the list after 6th May (restaurants, hotels, museums, international travel) might be a bit more twitchy.

Can’t believe posters are saying yes to this

It’s all a ruse

Let’s see what happens. I just found myself laughing when l realised the local election date. I thought perfectly time , perfectly played. I hope we haven’t all been done like kippers.

Surely then the elections would mean they can't have the disastrous opening and closing of schools that many people predict. Now that would probably end them.

Or maybe they are actually very tired of all this and what to give labour a go in change.

Therefore the plan is to fuck up and then the public will vote them out

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/02/2021 21:59

I take PPs' points about the May elections, but if anything I'd think it's even more pressure to ease things before then

Granted nothing's beyond them, and of course there are always exciting "new variants" to be found at just the right moment, but surely even the gullible are going to say "Hang on a sec ..." if they switch tack quite so soon afterwards

Mittens030869 · 22/02/2021 22:06

I don't see any such cunning plan. Boris has said that they're not aiming for zero Covid. He's prepared us for increased in cases and deaths from Covid, like there are deaths from flu. But they won't be locking down again.

Because this has been all about protecting the NHS. Once Covid cases are down to manageable rates, it will be allowed to become endemic in the population.

Yes, there will be variants. But this will be handled with regular boosters. Again, much like what already happens with flu.

The lockdown policy has been all about containing the virus until there was a vaccine available.

Beaniecats · 22/02/2021 22:21

I wouldn't take what Boris says as gospel tbh

Mittens030869 · 22/02/2021 22:31

I don't. But this is about strategy, not about facts. If he was wanting to keep us locked down forever, surely he would be telling us that we had to achieve zero Covid and that this was vital?

I think the truth is that you want to believe that this is some evil scheme, and that you'll still believe this even after all the restrictions have been lifted.

Because the reality is that you need conspiracy theories, because without them you have nothing to say at all. It's a bit sad tbh.

Mittens030869 · 22/02/2021 22:35

It would be easier to believe in a conspiracy where Nicola Sturgeon is concerned. Because she does talk about reducing Covid to virtually zero. And she desperately needs to distract people from what Alex Salmond's accusations.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 22/02/2021 22:38

The rumour is Sturgeon will resign in the next few months. Sounds good but who would replace her? The party is talentless. She is the best of a rancid and fairly thick bunch. Cherry was one of the few with a brain

Iggly · 22/02/2021 22:41

I think you overestimate their intelligence

The tories are cunning fuckers and well able to do what it takes to win elections. That’s what they’re about - saying the right things at the right times. People fall for it. But watch what they do, not what they say, and you realise they’re still the nasty cocks they ever have been.

Mittens030869 · 22/02/2021 22:42

I know. I have no liking for Salmond either. But accusations of conspiracy against her would be a lot more believable than all these accusations against Boris.

Can't wait for the end of masks! I still always wear lipstick under mine though Smile

Mittens030869 · 22/02/2021 22:44

I don't like the Tories and have never voted for them. But the whole lockdown strategy goes against the grain for them, as is demonstrated by the fact that it's the most right-wing backbenchers who are pushing hardest for restrictions to be lifted as soon as possible.
