I can’t see this being reported anywhere but the Daily Fail are reporting masks to be worn in Secondary schools for first few weeks back.

Don't think it is about a month. It would have to either be by cases. So maybe on a local area decision. Else probably easiest to say once all adults have had their first jab (Excluding those that can't or won't have it)

ChloeCrocodile · 22/02/2021 23:27

For saying it would be a good idea when opening up schools to all pupils I've been called a child abuser, a terrorist, a sicko and a dirty Nazi online today.

You know what? People comparing face masks to gas chambers need to get a bloody grip. And anyone standing beside them needs to do the exact same thing.

Face masks are crap. I hate them. The teens I teach mostly dislike them. We all want COVID gone forever. But comparing the minor discomfort of a face mask to nazi Germany is ridiculous.

@OhGuardian

Some people love to defend the masks, eh.

I agree with those who think this is weird and unhealthy.

But you'll be outnumbered by the shouty persistent rabid mask fetishists on here.

Mask lovers, oh defenders of the greater good, what month would you deem it suitable for children to not have to wear masks? April? June? September? Come on, lay your cards on the table.

Teachers asked for it, they've got it - but it'll make their jobs very difficult.

Hcolhcsra · 22/02/2021 23:35

Our school is ignoring it, as yet again its only a recommendation. We never enforced masks in communal areas either. Why can't they make it mandatory?

I teach English. Quite a few kids that I teach have been wearing masks in the classroom since September, and I can't hear a word they are saying. I am really, really going to struggle with this“

Do you have a hearing impairment? If so, sympathies, that must be very difficult.

Otherwise, not sure why you can’t hear a word they’re saying? Had a lovely dusk walk in the woods today with our 18 year old, both wearing masks and speaking at normal volumes, we enjoyed a really nice conversation.

Do you wear it at home too? Why would you wear mask in the woods walking alone with your son?

Is twatter the voice of reason for a change?

Mask wearing dissenters? Praise be!

No, it’s just a bunch of thickies spouting off that mask wearing is child abuse; it prevents oxygen; destroys the immune system and is ‘barbaric’.

You’d think they’d be happy that their children can go back to school.

Good job that in most cases, the teens have more sense than their parents.

Yeah, the U4T ers are going nuts. 😂😂😷
14down · 23/02/2021 00:14

People just love to whinge don't they? Schools are open whinge about covid rates

Schools are closed whinge about homeschooling

Schools are open with masks whinge about the fact their kid has to wear a mask

God just get a grip!

14down · 23/02/2021 00:19

There was a woman whinging on the comments under the article by the bbc on Facebook about the fact that she thought her 11 year old should be exempt because 11 is too young to wear a mask and that as under 18s are children they should all be exempt or just the older kids should wear masks Hmm so many entitled parents projecting their ideas onto kids. I expect a lot of kids will just get on with it

OhGuardian · 23/02/2021 00:20

God yeah, 14down, everyone should get a grip. Take the masks off - and get a grip.

OhGuardian · 23/02/2021 00:23

Hopefully a lot of kids won't be bullied or brainwashed into thinking mask wearing is sensible or helps keep people healthy.

I see the evening mask fetish shift workers have arrived!

OhGuardian · 23/02/2021 00:24

Mask lovers, how does it feel to be so out of touch with reality? Grin

14down · 23/02/2021 00:38

@OhGuardian genuine question.. would you be happy for me as a nurse doing transplants and surgeons to stop wearing masks too? Or is that still needed?

I know it’s a bit sad to admit to this, but I had to get my popcorn out...they are absolutely hilarious.
StarlightandSunlight · 23/02/2021 00:42

I wonder how lessons like drama will work? I suppose they will carry on concentrating on theory

TaxTheRatFarms · 23/02/2021 00:46

StarlightandSunlight Maybe for a straight month they’ll have to work on super expressive eyebrow skills? Grin

Not masks that have been in a teenager's pocket lol, no thanks!

Bit worried you can't tell the difference!

But I know, this is the magic mask thread Wink.

This is the thread of celebrating how 30 magic masks will magically calm teachers down (those teachers, not normal teachers) and pacify unions. Pretty magically things! 30 magic masks will also trick teachers into thinking their magic dirty classroom masks will save the health of the community. Whoop, whoop! How clever.

manicinsomniac · 23/02/2021 00:51

StarlightandSunlight I won't be teaching theory (not much, anyway). I only teach from Year 3 to Year 8 so I don't do a huge amount of theory anyway, it's 90%+ practical work. Can't lie, the masks are going to be very tricky - especially for my Year 8s who have their final practical exams (self directed one act plays) coming up. But it can't possibly be worse than Drama lessone on Teams so I'm still celebrating!

I've also got nearly 100 LAMDA exam candidates booked in for June and a large scale musical near the end of the summer term. It would almost completely ruin both if we still have to wear masks at that point. But it wouldn't ruin them as much as cancelling them would. Determined to look on the bright side. Smile

StarlightandSunlight · 23/02/2021 00:52

@TaxTheRatFarms Now that I would love to see. 30i ish kids wiggiling their eyebrows at each other like expressive morse code Grin That would make for some interesting lessons Grin

manicinsomniac · 23/02/2021 00:52

I'm moving all my smaller productions outside and will also teach outside whenever it's warm enough and I don't need the board. That should mean they can take masks off some of the time.
