I can’t see this being reported anywhere but the Daily Fail are reporting masks to be worn in Secondary schools for first few weeks back.

My eldest will be fine with it, he’s just desperate to go back to school.

My youngest is autistic with significant and won’t be wearing one in class, he can manage for shorter periods but he would not be able to cope for a day in school. I have an exemption card for him that he can take to school and I’ll be telling his guidance teacher in advance.“

I’m really pleased that this policy has been brought in: the more who can that do, the more protection for those who can’t.

People who can’t wear masks must feel particularly vulnerable when they are surrounded by people. This will help, I hope.

Yeah, the youngest has actually coped well with them in the short times he’s had to wear them, some teachers have actually said to him they assumed he was exempt, but with the sensory struggles he experiences in the classroom at the best of times a mask for all his lessons is just going to be a step too far for the wee guy.

@Lourdes12

In our school nobody wore a mask and there were zero cases
All that proves is you don't live in a badly hit area. Congratulations but you might find the geography of the virus is different next time.

Good well done to those parents who who stand up against this. There is no long term study into kids wearing mask hours on end. headaches and other symptoms indicate this can’t be could for their long term health
Masks have been worn in other countries by school children for most the pandemic

I have a feeling if they were causing the children to be unwell then they would have stopped doing that. Though maybe we are the only ones worried about childrens health?

What health problems are they going to develop from wearing a mask for a few hours at school? Confused

Having worn masks for working in for the last 20yrs I don’t see the problem. The disposable Type IIR are probably better fabric masks because they don’t cling to the face and allow air flow around the mouth and nose. Or maybe fabric masks based on their design would be more comfortable.
Once you get used to mask wearing (a few days of continuous use) it’s a doddle. Obviously those with sensory problems are an exception. However, I have a serious trigger when wearing anything around my neck (I came close to suffocating myself as a child ) but I have overcome this and managed, over the years, to get past this.

With regard to the side effects of mask wearing, I do often end up with a headache at the end of the day, but that is down to the patients I’m treating not mask wearing.

I work in an FE college and I've been wearing my mask all day when in. Students were meant to wear them everywhere but classrooms but often didn't. We got little back-up from SLT to enforce 😟. So throughout the week I would come into contact with 40 odd kids in class without masks. Windows open. Tiny rooms no hope of 2m distance! Me regularly sanitising. We had many positive cases. I was v. Lucky not to catch it. Unless I did and was asymptomatic. I am over 50. Slightly plump. As yet un-vaccinated. It would just be my luck to catch it at this 11th hour. I fully welcome masks for students in class. I think they'll be more like to comply as they'll all be there together in class. It will keep us just that little bit safer for this homestretch.

We have had a requirement for face masks in class for secondary from Sept to Christmas. If the class was particularly small (6 or less) the teacher could allow them be removed but it was the teachers choice. There was also increased break times for removing them outdoors, and ventilation breaks in the middle of double classes for the same reason.

It was just part of what the 12-18 year olds had todo, and they did it.

I expect it will not have changed when they do get back to school next month here.

It a pity that masks during school lessons weren’t made mandatory months ago as in other countries. F2f schooling could have continued without the interruptions in U.K. schools.
