I can’t see this being reported anywhere but the Daily Fail are reporting masks to be worn in Secondary schools for first few weeks back.

@ChloeCrocodile

I am not happy about my kids having to be in masks while in class. They won’t be happy when I tell them.

These two things are connected. If you tell your kids that it’s a nuisance but necessary to keep schools open they’ll be fine.

Does anyone know which clear masks are best? I heard some aren’t great and I teach a couple of hearing impaired students so I want to get decent quality ones.

These are the ones I linked to above, which got good reviews for showing more of the face, and not fogging up

www.cambridgeindependent.co.uk/news/reviewed-the-game-changing-clear-face-mask-that-helps-lip-readers-9156257/

(no connection, just happened to see the review in a newspaper and thought they were very good, as I had a friend looking for them. I've not seen them in person!).

What age group does thus cover

I teach English. Quite a few kids that I teach have been wearing masks in the classroom since September, and I can't hear a word they are saying. I am really, really going to struggle with this.
Me too (though with maths). I’ve had to ask pupils to remove their mask to answer a question or I can’t hear them. I’m not planning on speaking much in lessons now. I shall sit at the front and write on the screen.

My five year old wears one. I don't see the issue.

Wow so not older?

Wow so not older?
Not older than what?
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/02/2021 22:31

@SpringisSpinning

Wow so not older?
Well colleges and universities were already wearing them or are you being sarcastic Grin
SpringisSpinning · 22/02/2021 22:33

Colleges only had them in corridor and most schools also only had them in corridor

ilovesooty · 22/02/2021 22:35

I think pupils will be less bothered by this than many parents. For saying it would be a good idea when opening up schools to all pupils I've been called a child abuser, a terrorist, a sicko and a dirty Nazi online today. Shock

Rosannarosannadanna · 22/02/2021 22:37

Agree. A lot of parents are projecting their own shit onto their kids at the moment.

Fiddlersgreen · 22/02/2021 22:38

@SpringisSpinning yes this applies to colleges and sixth forms too

Devlesko · 22/02/2021 22:38

The 8 year olds wear them at dd school.
The temp check on arrival really worked. There was one case and a few kids isolated, that was it.
In an area with a high rate as well.

friendlycat · 22/02/2021 22:42

I think this is sensible. Children will adapt. Other countries have insisted on this. It may take a while to get used to but after a bit they will be used to it as everyone is in the same boat. Then slowly the mask situation can change.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 22/02/2021 22:43

My children’s school introduced wearing masks in classrooms since September last year and they asked children to bring in 2 masks each and change it after lunch

Do you have a hearing impairment? If so, sympathies, that must be very difficult.

Otherwise, not sure why you can’t hear a word they’re saying? Had a lovely dusk walk in the woods today with our 18 year old, both wearing masks and speaking at normal volumes, we enjoyed a really nice conversation.

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/02/2021 23:00

With all due respect Denise that's just you and your son. 32 kids in a confined space in masks is somewhat different. Not all the kids will be silent! It's a whole new teaching strategy

DenisetheMenace · 22/02/2021 23:04

Pieceofpurplesky

Yes, that’s a fair point.

I do believe it’s necessary, though, if the Govt. is insisting on 8th March.
Personally, we would have been far more comfortable with after Easter, when the first 9 groups will have received at least one jab.

So 1 to 1 in a wood is comparable to a child speaking in a classroom with 29 other kids? Come off it.

Why are your dc wearing masks outside for a woodland walk?

I think kids will really struggle to be in masks all day. I just about manage a trip round Tesco before I get hot and panicked. I'm sure it will impact their learning. Thankfully my dd is exempt.

OhGuardian · 22/02/2021 23:19

Some people love to defend the masks, eh.

I agree with those who think this is weird and unhealthy.

But you'll be outnumbered by the shouty persistent rabid mask fetishists on here.

Mask lovers, oh defenders of the greater good, what month would you deem it suitable for children to not have to wear masks? April? June? September? Come on, lay your cards on the table.

Then you are the problem.
ChloeCrocodile · 22/02/2021 23:20

Thanks thimbleberries. They looks good!

Cloudyrainsham · 22/02/2021 23:22

My kids wore the last term. I was worried it would be awful but they weren’t bothered.
