I can’t see this being reported anywhere but the Daily Fail are reporting masks to be worn in Secondary schools for first few weeks back.

I was not there during SARS but was masking universal and required? Or did parents make that choice on behalf of their child?

No, it was completely voluntary, but quite a lot of people chose to do it anyway.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/02/2021 17:19

If asymptomatic covid transmission is up for debate and covid isn’t transmitted by people who are asymptomatc then it should be easy to contain. So perhaps just switch strategies and go for a zero covid one. There won’t need to be masks then.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 24/02/2021 17:23

Well for those complaining about masks. You cannot have it all your own way.
So the choice is, you child wears a mask [Like a lot of schools in Europe without issue or the moaning]
The simple fact is although protection may be limited, it is better than nothing for staff and other children in the sense of stopping spread.
Otherwise it will cause covid infections that then may disrupt your child's learning.
The other choice is homeschool.
There you go. Simple.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 24/02/2021 17:26

Oh yes and there is always the option to vaccinate teachers.
There has been research that it can stop some of the spread. Cant remember the exact percentage.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/02/2021 17:50

God no, we can't be seen to be giving anything to teachers. It makes the covid deniers even more mad than the idea of 'muzzling' their cherubs with 'face nappies'.

Ah ok. I posted that as I assumed your child was younger.“

No worries, easy assumption.

He’s still my “baby” 😁.

Have to be completely honest and say I’m not sure how I’d feel we’re he 8. Thinking back, I think he’d have been fine with it but who knows.

That would be lovely but the teenagers would still be infecting each other and then taking it home. To potentially infect their cev parents, grandparents that they live or parents over 50. Who won't have been done yet because you gave their dose to a healthy 30 year old teacher.
DumplingsAndStew · 25/02/2021 01:18

This is ridiculous. One of my kids can't wear a mask. I wish she could. But then you've got parents who refuse to allow their kids to wear one, because they don't want them to.

Absolute muppets. Selfish.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 25/02/2021 12:39

That's true @Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum
There is no easy answers.
I've no issue with masks. You get used to them. So will children/ teens

Lourdes12 · 06/03/2021 08:53

In our school nobody wore a mask and there were zero cases

Lourdes12 · 06/03/2021 08:57

Good well done to those parents who who stand up against this. There is no long term study into kids wearing mask hours on end. headaches and other symptoms indicate this can’t be could for their long term health

Lourdes12 · 06/03/2021 08:58

You do realise you are asking for your own enslavement

Oh right-that sounds an excellent evidence base.

This bloke in the pub smoked 40 a day all his life and never got lung cancer, so it must be fine!

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 06/03/2021 10:08

Lourdes
Do you know what else is bad for long term health? Covid!
If a child isn’t wearing a mask, they will not be taught by me face- to-face. With rights, you have responsibilities. A child’s right to an education doesn’t trump my right to be safe in my workplace.

Medical exceptions apply.

SugarfreeBlitz · 06/03/2021 10:17

N95 are quite uncomfortable worn for long periods of time. DS finds paper masks better because they do allow for some airflow and N95 masks are really best for those used to wearing them for long periods.
My friend's daughter uses the triple layer fabric ones from Redbubble because they are fitted and she finds them comfortable.
I'd say being comfortable and being able to breath well is important otherwise kids won't have their minds on their learning.

RedcurrantPuff · 06/03/2021 10:19

My eldest will be fine with it, he’s just desperate to go back to school.

My youngest is autistic with significant and won’t be wearing one in class, he can manage for shorter periods but he would not be able to cope for a day in school. I have an exemption card for him that he can take to school and I’ll be telling his guidance teacher in advance.

RedcurrantPuff · 06/03/2021 10:19

Significant sensory issues I meant to say.

AlphaJura · 06/03/2021 10:22

Doesn't bother me. It seemed silly before that they were mandated for arriving and moving around school (including outside) but not in classrooms. Made zero sense to me.

What on earth are you talking about?
Evvyjb · 06/03/2021 10:50

I am a teacher. I have been wearing masks all day every day since September. Today I put a mask in to pop into a shop and realised 20 minutes later on a walk that I was still wearing it.

Get a comfy mask, fitted properly, and it's more than fine. A year in, hopefully you have worked out what kind of mask works well

Honestly. It's not for long now is it. Keep them at home if you're that upset about it and homeschool. The rest of us just want schools open safely and not constantly closing. You sound a bit loopy here
TheHoneyBadger · 06/03/2021 11:46

Makes a bit of a mockery of slavery to suggest wearing a paper mask in school short term is enslavement. You may want to get a grip.

Have you become enslaved due to wearing a mask in the supermarket?

I’m really pleased that this policy has been brought in: the more who can that do, the more protection for those who can’t.

People who can’t wear masks must feel particularly vulnerable when they are surrounded by people. This will help, I hope.

AlexaShutUp · 06/03/2021 12:08

@Lourdes12, as someone who has worked with victims of modern slavery, I find your comment ignorant at best. You have no fucking clue.
