Hope no-one minds me starting this. Apologies if another has started too. Please can someone add the pretty pictures.

NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

You know I'm thinking that once all the vulnerable have the antibodies then if the covid spreads amongst those with stronger immune systems, it will soon become very weakened and be nothing more than a common cold here. Am I right ? My biology A level was quite a while ago.

Welikebeingcosy · 25/02/2021 16:10

I seem to remember a page in the textbook about viruses mutating or getting stronger in those with a weakened immune system.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 25/02/2021 16:20

No idea but sounds good to me🤷‍♀️😊

TeaInTheGarden · 25/02/2021 16:25

Good day for all the data.
6 more days of home schooling ☺️☺️

OverWintered · 25/02/2021 16:28

Thank you for this lovely thread all. Ive been quietly lurking since around thread no 5. I also obsessively (?) check the daily number of vaccines given on the Government Covid dashboard and was feeling a bit wobbly when they dropped so low a few days ago.
I'm thrilled that they are climbing back up and yesterday's vaccines were almost up to the half a million mark again! Whoop!

Is it just that the person with a weakened immune system provides them with a lovely host in which to multiply lots, and the more they multiply the more likely that they will mutate in a way that is helpful to them? Whereas the strong immune system kills them before they get a chance to reproduce so no risk of mutation.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/02/2021 16:47

Today’s figures are fab all round. Hospitalisations stood out to me as particularly low at 1142. Maybe within the week we will see it fall to below 1000.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 25/02/2021 16:56

The UK's coronavirus alert level has been lowered from level five to four in all four nations as the risk that the NHS could be overwhelmed "has receded".

That’s really good news truely 😊

starfish88 · 25/02/2021 17:03

Will they adapt that chart do we think now that zero covid is no longer the goal? With the vaccine we will forever be somewhere between 2 and 3 but without the knock on effect to the health care system.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/02/2021 17:12

Hello Overwintered . Glad you felt like delurking. Now stick around for the Picnic of Joy, coming soon!

Treaclepie19 · 25/02/2021 17:20

@TeaInTheGarden

Good day for all the data. 6 more days of home schooling ☺️☺️
I'm on this countdown too. Everytime I try and set my 5yo on a live lesson my 5mo poos or cries. I end up leaving the room and my 5yo loses his concentration... or the teacher doesn't realise nobody can hear her.
OrangeBananaFish · 25/02/2021 17:34

This is my countdown:

29th March - 32 sleeps
12th April - 46 sleeps
17th May - 74 sleeps
21st June - 116 sleeps

I’m in a grump today.
But hopefully tomorrow we’ll reach 19 million vaccines. Such a good effort !

OverWintered · 25/02/2021 19:10

Evening everyone. Cocktails and Netflix in the Chicken house tonight. I feel almost on a high now that the end of homeschool is in sight! And I’ve made some plans with friends for when we are released and it feels amazing Grin

I think it's strange that although it's very common to talk about Covid infections in waves, they are only assumed to go up, never down. But surely that's the thing about a wave - goes up, then down, then up, then down. Many things in nature behave like that.

And, hopefully, vaccines, NPIs and, if we're lucky, nature, will mean that successive waves are smaller and smaller.

Herd immunity by mid-May according to this SAGE professor. Looking positive! www.fil.ion.ucl.ac.uk/spm/covid-19/forecasting/

I'm not sure if this has been shared yet, but the countdown is on ...

That's interesting.

Ooh I like the word "monotonically" Grin

Sorry to bring a downer but I'm ultra bored today. I've got toothache and have been eating soft food today (went to dentist this a.m re fallen off crown) which isn't helping. But I think it's the flip side of the "up" generated by the positive news. I need a distraction (tv wise possibly) and really I've got dull housework to do.

Sorry to moan. 😐
