Hope no-one minds me starting this. Apologies if another has started too. Please can someone add the pretty pictures.

NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

My area has gone white on the government data map! I’ve wondered how many of our local cases are related to the nursing home, especially when they have had a jump. Now I’m wondering if the low rate is because the nursing home residents and staff are now vaccinated? There’s probably an elderly population locally so maybe a high proportion of the population vaccinated too. Whatever the reasons, it’s definitely good news!

Just been catching up on MN and can't believe how miserable it still is. Though they are making me question something.

They all seem to be under the impression that Whitty/Valance said the other night we will need masks through to at least this winter.

That's not what was said though is it?

It was said masks may be needed next winter.

They are completing a review of social distancing before the last step. It is likely that over the summer non pharmaceutical intervention will be personal choice, but it is likely we may need masks next winter.

Not that we will be wearing them all summer and into winter.

Or am I imagining things?

In the spirit of sharing good news though, a new sandwich shop has opened up down the road, sunny day today, so meeting dh for lunch (he's in the office I'm not...yet) and going to have a nice sandwich while walking through the park.

MarcelineMissouri · 25/02/2021 07:11

@LivinLaVidaLoki sounds similar to what Jenny Harries said yesterday...

Thanks @MarcelineMissouri
Thought I was going mad for a bit there.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/02/2021 07:54

Jennie Harries said "meet your husband for a sandwich"?? Excellent news! 😁

In my area we are on 70 cases this week (64 per 100) which is amazing considering it was over 1000 recently.
Also my 55 year old uncle had his vaccine yesterday in a town here with an ageing population so they are getting through them quickly which makes me think cases will be minimal in a few weeks with no room to climb.

MadisonAvenue · 25/02/2021 09:21

Our immediate area has gone from 74 per 100000 two weeks ago to 205 yesterday, we’re back to dark blue on the map. It’s so frustrating, but no surprise when we see how people are disregarding the rules.

BigWoollyJumpers · 25/02/2021 09:36

We are finally white - hoorah 😊

"Coronavirus (COVID-19) latest insights - Office for National Statistics" www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19/latestinsights

Vaccine confidence is up, 91% are happy to get the jab according to one data. 91%!!! Shock Amazing!

Pomegranatespompom · 25/02/2021 09:53

Jeremy Vine this morning - discussing school over Summer. The teacher speaking is not coming across at all well. Apparently needs counselling due to bubbles breaking and knowing people who have covid, no-one has asked how they are coping etc . The lack of self awareness is very bizarre.

I don't know how immediate an area you are talking about but in my county, a jump like that can mean less than 10 extra cases. In reality, 2 families, 1 workplace? It isn't always as bad as it seems. I think we are going to have to get used to a steady level of cases, and they aren't necessarily a bad thing when they don't translate into hospital admissions or deaths due to vaccination.
alreadytaken · 25/02/2021 11:39

The ONS antibody data was last month and we've got a lot more people who are building up antibodies from vaccination - so it'll be a good bit more than 1 in 7 now.

People getting positive test arent always rule breakers, I'd suspect they are getting it from school or work.

Some people saying they wont have the vaccine are likely to be pregnant or have had covid already and think they wont bother. But there were a lot of dont knows who may turn out to be not yets. Less than 1% have actually turned it down when offered.

alreadytaken · 25/02/2021 11:49

Moderna are testing a vaccine that probably works on the South African strain www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/coronavirus-vaccine-moderna-south-african-variant-b1807009.html

mrshonda · 25/02/2021 12:18

You're right Reachers, a sudden rise in the rate of the area adjacent to mine was due to an outbreak in the prison there, so just one location.

carolinesbaby · 25/02/2021 12:19

Exactly this.
I caught it at work, in a supposedly Covid-safe workplace. My husband caught it from me.

FourTeaFallOut · 25/02/2021 14:14

411,146 additional vaccine doses registered England yesterday (396,937 1st doses, 14,209 2nd doses)

34,443 Scotland
21,336 Wales

Good numbers today.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/02/2021 14:17

Excellent news.

Welikebeingcosy · 25/02/2021 14:47

@Reachersloveinterest where I live we had a high number a couple of weeks ago but it was at the same time that there was an outbreak in the refugee camp here and went straight back down as soon as I saw they were allowed back out again. It could have meant an outbreak somewhere and hopefully it will go back down in a week or three.

Welikebeingcosy · 25/02/2021 14:48

Sorry I meant to tag @MadisonAvenue

BigWoollyJumpers · 25/02/2021 15:15

For a very long while I couldn't understand why my rural area had such high numbers. Eventually I google earthed the postcode area, and way up the top, in a corner was a large collection of buildings. Turns out we have a prison in our area I didn't know about 😁. Thing is, it's not really in our area, as we would define it, but it is for the purposes of Covid allocations. Anyway, I learnt something......apparently we have a (quite) dodgy prison fairly near us 😂😂
