If they open up schools all at once, I'm done with every other precaution

If the 'leak' is true and they are stupid enough to open up all schools to all kids at the same time (thus leading to uncontrolled transmission of variants and increased risk of vaccine escape, further lockdowns and a redo of the vaccination programme) then I'm done with any kind of compliance.

I'm not staying at home like a fucking stupid sitting duck, waiting for my kids to come home with Covid anymore. The kids can see their friends, have sleepovers and we'll go out and about and visit friends and relatives and do the maximum we can.

You can pile in and call me selfish or whatever - I genuinely don't care anymore. I'm not putting my life on hold just for the government to fuck the recovery up again. I'm the most compliant of pretty much everyone I know but this is it for me, and many others I suspect (most of whom are already doing way more than me). If it's safe for my kids to go to school, then everything is safe.

Maybe the OP is doing what some small children do and stick fingers in ears and go blah blah when common sense is uttered. Maybe once she has stamped her feet her thinking brain will engage or maybe she just wants to upset and annoy people - who knows.

Quartz2208 · 22/02/2021 16:50

@BettyBoomerang have you really not read and taken in any of the posts on here at all about what is happening

June 21st is the current date for being able to do these things.

Tianatiers · 22/02/2021 16:53

I'm going to have to believe that OP is just trying to wind people up and just having a good laugh at everyone getting all het up about it. Some people are really bored at the moment.

phlebasconsidered · 22/02/2021 16:57

Already my community fb feed is full of the parents of kids in my class planning get togethers now the kids are going back and they can have a cuppa and gossip.

Thanks, dickheads.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 16:59

Well we won't move up to the next stage of the roadmap and schools will have bubbles closing everywhere if parents do that

Bluntness100 · 22/02/2021 17:05

I think she oddly thinks she’s sticking two fingers up to the government because she doesn’t want all the schools back. I’m not sure how she thinks by breaking the rules as much as possible and putting her, her friends and family at additional risk does this, but that does indeed appear to be what she’s thinking.

FourTeaFallOut · 22/02/2021 17:17

I'm assuming the OP was under the impression Boris was trawling MN for policy and hoping the last ditch attempt at blackmail would swing the balance?

Devlesko · 22/02/2021 17:17

@BettyBoomerang

I genuinely don't care who thinks I'm selfish. I've had a year of being so so considerate. I'm not sitting at home while my kids are in classrooms of 30. That's just stupid. I just feel like a light has gone on! I'm not playing anymore.
A light went off for me too. Not seen my gc for ages, of course I'm going round when they are mixing with every Tom, Dick and Sally. Grandparents picking them up from school everyday hasn't changed at all. I thought they'd have been more careful, tbh.

Ha! I wouldn't be surprised if he has the odd butchers tho Smile
Darkbrownistheriver · 22/02/2021 17:24

I had a look at the ops previous posts - yes I know it’s not considered PC - and what I can’t understand is that her partner is a vulnerable diabetic and she still doesn’t seem to see the increased risk to him ....

FourTeaFallOut · 22/02/2021 17:25

Bluster and bullshit, I suspect.

Glad health workers and care workers didn’t demonstrate this level of petulance last year.

This

Because the OP’s position is dependent on family and friends and school gate mums doing the same, which is unlikely

TheKeatingFive · 22/02/2021 17:35

and what I can’t understand is that her partner is a vulnerable diabetic and she still doesn’t seem to see the increased risk to him

She’s just having an extremely ill thought through tantrum

itsgettingwierd · 22/02/2021 17:40

@minipie

If it's safe for my kids to go to school, then everything is safe.

This isn’t how it works. We can afford a certain level of transmission for hospitals not to be overwhelmed. We cannot afford a greater level of transmission. Opening schools will produce a certain level of transmission, which is projected not to overwhelm hospitals. That doesn’t mean we can go off and do other stuff which will raise transmission further.

But I think you know that.

This is what I thought as well.

And the thing is all those "of schools open as a Big Bang then I'm not following restrictions" people are actually the ones who will be risking more mutations and slower opening or even (god forbid!) the need for another lockdown.

I also work education and have in since last March - I'm frustrated a classroom has been deemed safe for a year (with no Ppe etc!) and I've not been allowed to do so much else.

But I also know we need slow and careful opening and despite thinking they've made a hash of schools I'm not risking their education by pleasing myself.

OP I completely understand.
I work in a school and once again I am being thrown into the infection pool daily being exposed to 120 kids and the other staff members in pathetically small classrooms all day. We are allowed to wear PPE but my god it’s horrendous leading learning all day like that.
All the while we will no doubt see all the parents standing around breathing at each other, hear about weekly sleepovers, parties, play dates- while we can’t see our own families for fear of taking the germs of the selfish with us.

It absolutely reeks of unfairness. I really feel that the rule breakers should be refused NHS treatment when they get it.

This is a complete shit show with society relying on the considerates to keep the shitty selfish alive.

Urgh, I have had enough too.

Mittens030869 · 22/02/2021 17:52

I think so, too, a lot of us are at the end of our tether. But this isn't the time to throw in the towel, with the end in sight.

MercyBooth · 22/02/2021 18:01

Not complying isnt always the fault of the individual. An EON customer had to sit in her neighbours house while her phone was charging today because she had no electric. Because EONs problems a hack they tried to cover up are still ongoing.

The OP is planning on being one of those parents standing chatting about sleepovers etc. I don't think she's on your side...
MercyBooth · 22/02/2021 18:05

I can imagine childless people who are facing losing their businesses and their homes knowing they will be way down the list priority wise for any social housing that might be left over, may be feeling pretty pissed off right now at having to make yet more sacrifice knowing they will come last at the end of it.

Ponoka7 · 22/02/2021 18:16

"Glad health workers and care workers didn’t demonstrate this level of petulance last year."

Or retail staff, bus and taxi drivers. There's lots of people on much lower pay grades who have been at risk since the start.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/02/2021 18:18

Yes its crap for business but anyone childless or not who can't see how important it is for kids to be in school is unbelievable, I haven't heard any other country moaning about schools being open whilst other non essential businesses aren't .
