It would be amazing if this were all possible. Idk where vaccinations are in my neck of the woods. Not been offered anything just yet with dh in his 50’s. I am also eager for a haircut and would love to stop having to do dh’s hair every 3 weeks - that’s cutting with clippers / scissors and applying colour. Apparently he is the best coiffed out of everyone at work.

Obviously I want my dd back at school and I would love life to go back to normal. This is a conundrum. Schools opening on March 8th shows what a farce keeping schools closed last time from June onwards was. But opening them then could be another very risky move.

I’ve attached a couple of pics of the current infection rates. One of the U.K. and another of an area near Nottingham.... there are pockets of very high infection rates all over the country and this is the only area with over 800 per 1000. But it puts the situation into context.

My thoughts are having face to face teaching anywhere, where the colour is blue is too soon. Perhaps we will get away with primary but secondary as well will most likely put the R above 1. There are still small pockets dotted around these areas, where infection rates are 400-799.

It is a little more complicated than the numbers suggest though. Some of the higher numbers are due to isolated outbreaks at prisons or work places. Though the some places are still very iffy that is true. Hopefully in two more weeks there should be more green. The last two weeks has seen massive drops in a lot of places.

I left the web address so people could view the info for themselves and verify. I hadn’t thought of prisons. That could explain some of the pockets.

Love all the people on here insisting that we're due for another lockdown by the end of this year. You realize that the vaccine prevents almost all severe disease and that all adults will have been offered the vaccine by the autumn? If you want to hide for the rest of your lives due to Long Covid terror, go ahead and do so. The rest of us won't be joining you.

pinkhappy · 22/02/2021 05:50

Yes it is confusing that there are comments ignoring that the death rate from covid should plummet in March due to the vaccinations. Anyone infected with covid from March 8 onwards is just very unlikely to die unless they are both vulnerable and have refused the vaccine.

Mid May new lockdown.

Mid May new lockdown.

Why do you say that? If almost no one infected after March gets seriously ill then why would there be a lockdown?

Not all priority groups will have had their first jab by March 8th.

BettysButtons · 22/02/2021 06:19

@AlwaysLatte

So are schools going back before shops? How do we get them kitted out?
Click and collect obviously.

No trying on. Which is a PITA.

QuentinInQuarantino · 22/02/2021 06:22

I wonder about the foreign holidays in August one, whether that means they're hoping to have ended the quarantine and testing restrictions by then, as a lot of people can't take another 2 weeks off for that.

And hoping for clarification on beauty salons and hairdressers too!

Baileysforchristmas · 22/02/2021 06:23

I think a lot of people are scared to go back to normal and they want to scare the rest of us to not go out but a lot of people haven’t locked themselves away since March and have been carrying on without the vaccine.

Bristolbongos · 22/02/2021 06:33

Mixing outside is completely useless to me. I need to travel and see my family, I can’t do it in a day Sad

Tara336 · 22/02/2021 06:37

@Bristolbongos I’m in exactly the same position, I’m 130 miles from close friends and family any lifting of restrictions doesn’t improve life for me at all until we can travel

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2021 06:37

Ok good to see op

Not sure why people are so insistent either
Dementedswan · 22/02/2021 06:43

Seems like they are banking on the vaccines keeping hospital admissions and deaths down. This is the reason why all those extra people are being asked to shield until their vaccines take hold.

My family live in a different country, so I get how you feel, but I do have some friends in my area who I cannot wait to see for a coffee, and eventually have over for a bbq. Do you have anyone who would meet for a walk and a coffee in your area?
Lubiluxe · 22/02/2021 06:46

Hmm... I've read one article.. I haven't seen anything about the 'stay local' anyone seen? I would need to drive 3 hours.

StepOutOfLine · 22/02/2021 06:46

That seems pretty cautious to me.
I suppose though that will be presented wherever possible as a "by the latest"

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2021 06:48

It is cautious with priority in right place

Bristolbongos · 22/02/2021 06:49

@TwirpingBird I do have a good friend here who I’ve met for a couple of social distanced walks. I haven’t lived here very long so most my friends are 300 miles away. I just want to see my family Sad

Lubiluxe · 22/02/2021 06:50

Also, we've been allowed to see one person throughout this whole lockdown outside. Many people have meet up with groups outside anyway. It is always those who live far away from family who get penalised.

Oh trust me I know how you feel! I miss my parents so much it physically hurts sometimes, and I wont see them til international travel becomes easier. No light at the end of the tunnel for me. Hopefully the stay local rule will be mentioned tonight for you.

EugenesAxe · 22/02/2021 06:55

Maybe someone leaked it so they could all trawl threads like this to gauge response from the public, and tweak it where necessary 🤔

Foreign holidays will also depend on policy at the destination, so I wouldn't get too bullish about them yet.

Bristolbongos · 22/02/2021 06:56

@TwirpingBird oh i didn’t realise you’d have to travel international, how awful for you Sad hang in there!
