This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

@PuzzledObserver I think you are right, they used mid April as a cautious date so they wouldn’t be accused of failing by giving a more ambitious date that they might not meet.

Looking at how the ages have been dropping on the booking site, I would expect it to start opening to the top end of the 40s within a couple of weeks

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/03/2021 16:41

Thank you, WombatChocolate. All is now clear.

CaveMum · 07/03/2021 17:21

I thought the 40s were being doing as a whole group (40-49) rather than broken down (40-44 and 45-49) like the older groups? DH is 45 so I’ve periodically been checking to see if he’s eligible yet as they’re whizzing through groups in our local area!

Frazzled2207 · 07/03/2021 17:23

@CaveMum
officially yes but I think in terms of using the link to book at the mass vaccination sites they will go down more gently - if they allow all 40-49s to book on it will most likely crash. Hence at the moment 56+ are allowed to book on even though 55-59 is their priority group (I think).
In terms of gps calling people forward they will do it as 40-49 I think but if they have a lot it will make sense to call the older first.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/03/2021 17:24

Yes I think the 40s officially are but they may still break it up yet if worried about flooding the booking system or something like that. Hopefully we will find out later in the month. When they get to 40sGrin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/03/2021 17:25

Oh snap

CaveMum · 07/03/2021 18:31

Thanks @Frazzled2207 and @Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

Mumoftwoinprimary · 07/03/2021 19:56

22.2 million is one third of the entire British population!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 07/03/2021 20:25

Also less than 100 deaths for the first time since mid October!

FannyCann · 07/03/2021 20:40

This thread started 16 days ago. During which time the number has risen by 5.4 million.
What number do you think we will be on by the time the next thread starts?

Bordois · 07/03/2021 20:46

It should take us about 2-3 days to fill up the thread, and as Mondays and Tuesdays numbers are always a bit lower I'm going to say 23million

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/03/2021 20:47

That is a tricky one because when they ramp up the numbers I think more people get excited and post. Therefore a new thread is needed quicker

25 million for the next new thread title. No maths there just a guess

WombatChocolate · 07/03/2021 20:50

It’s meant to really rocket from 15th. Depends if this thread lasts another week. I recon this thread will last just over another week and get to 25k. But if interest slows a bit and it lasts longer, maybe as far as 28k??

Who’s on for predicting when they will say all of groups 1-9 have been offered. I reckon it will be before April.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/03/2021 21:03

No not longer than 25k or I will have to cheat and post even more than I do now 😂😂😂

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/03/2021 21:07

I have been saying since January that we will be pretty much done with the priority list by March 15th.

This latest slow down means that will be missed but definitely 1 to 9 able to book by 15th March. Though some areas finished.

Then over 45s last week of March can book online but areas like mine ahead in age already doing themGrin

Yeah definitely will be before. Only group 9 now left.

Next thread I’ll say ... 23.5 cuz we speak a lot :)

Bordois · 07/03/2021 21:09

I've got my first volunteer shift at the vacc centre tomorrow. Would it be bad form to wear a vest just in case 🤣

Frazzled6 · 07/03/2021 21:18

My local council publish weekly covid stats.. Look at the difference in cases for the older age groups last week...vaccine kicking in!

Good grief that is awesome
PuzzledObserver · 07/03/2021 21:26

@Bordois vest underneath, nice thick padded jacket on top Grin

buttery81 · 08/03/2021 08:23

@Frazzled6 not sure I’m reading that chart right - does it say there have been no cases in the last 7 days in the over 70s?

Frazzled6 · 08/03/2021 08:47

Yes @ buttery81. Smile

buttery81 · 08/03/2021 08:56

@Frazzled6 that is incredible!
