This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

It would be good to know if there were any weekly stats on the different vaccine given. My sister indicated that the Midlands seemed to be giving alot of Pfizer last week.. How she'd know I don't know given that the vaccine given can change daily!

Frazzled2207 · 28/02/2021 12:54

@Frazzled6
not that I have seen. But I did post a few days ago a chart i saw of the proportion of Pfizer given vs AZ nationally each week. AZ was catching up and around 45% of all doses given in the last week recorded were AZ but the balance was expected to shift to AZ in early March.

Cannot WAIT to see the 20 million figure on the gov.uk site at 4! Grin

Thanks @Frazzled2207. I think I saw that table. I don't suppose its important and maybe more data will be released at the start of next month.

Frazzled2207 · 28/02/2021 14:12

It’s confirmed, over 20mil. About 400,000 first doses overall (from Hugo guy)

Hugo Gye has just put the numbers up.

386,948 additional vaccine doses registered in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 yesterday (371,364 1st doses, 15,584 2nd doses)

27,876 in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
14,634 in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

We’ve hit 20 million!

As well as being a lovely round number 20 million is also 30% of our total population.

Today is a good day.

CaveMum · 28/02/2021 14:22

Hurrah for 20 million!

Zahawi just said on breakfast tv
“March will be a very big month for us. We’ll probably going to be twice the rate over the next 10 weeks as we have done over the past 10 or 11 weeks.”
That suggests we might see close to a million a day, which is just incredible

PuzzledObserver · 01/03/2021 09:02

That news snippet from Zahawi has cheered me up. It’s a dull, misty day here, and I usually rely on a bit of sunshine to buck my spirits up and get me motivated. I’ll hang on to the prospect of one million a day to look forward to instead.

I’ve just had a little reverie inventing a system to follow up on the non-vaccinated once bookings dry up. Funding for every GP practice to employ extra admin staff to do this. We’ll start by texting and emailing everyone who hasn’t responded, as long as they have those details. Then we’ll phone them and/or send letters. Then we’ll have leaflets printed in other languages distributed through pharmacies and faith groups. We’ll take vaccine buses to areas with poor transport links and low car ownership. Maybe send vaccinator teams into certain large workplaces.

It’s not mandatory vaccination, it’s making sure everyone has access which works for them.

Goodness me, what a fantastic snippet to wake up to, thanks Frazzled! Can we expect to see those bigger numbers beginning from this week? So exciting!

buttery81 · 01/03/2021 09:09

Sounds good to me Puzzled!

I know there are 53 million adults in the UK, but I wonder how many people will have the vaccine ultimately? I remember someone suggesting it would be around 37 million on a much earlier thread, but that sounds quite low now?

OP posts:
Frazzled2207 · 01/03/2021 09:31

@buttery
I thought 37 million was a random figure at which herd immunity might kick in- realistically though it might be less than that if a few million have had covid already.
I imagine we’ll end up with 40something million, hopefully close to 50.
