This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

That's great news Errol!

With the acceleration in vaccines this month I've got a ridiculous image of masses of people doing a socially distanced conga to the vaccine centres.

might have spring fever today, I'm feeling a bit fizzy!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 01/03/2021 13:46

I know they are now starting to official call 60 to 64 but a lot of places have started on 50s already. Well today a journalist was saying there are around 5 million in their 50s. So it will take two weeks for them to be done. Though like I said some have been already.

Anyway we are a month ahead of their 1 to 9 target and 40s are very likely to be called from 15 March (In some places earlier)Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 01/03/2021 13:46

@ErrolTheDragon

DH had his first jab this morning and I've just used the nhs website to book mine for tomorrow.Smile
🥳
PuzzledObserver · 01/03/2021 13:55

Remember that people in their fifties in group 6 may already have been done - I have! Plus health and social care workers, carers, anyone who got a “let’s not waste these shots at the end of day” jab etc.

Incidentally - I was reading an article on the BBC website about how vaccine certificates might be implemented. It said that the existing NHS app, which I use to order repeat prescriptions, can already show vaccinations under the medications tab, if your GP has chosen to share it. So I went and looked - and yes, it says on there that I received the Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine on 16th February. I’m not sure I’d necessarily want to show that to get into a nightclub, though, as it also shows every other prescription I’ve had.

DdraigGoch · 01/03/2021 16:09

Daily doses nearly 50% up compared with last week, though still nearly 10% down on the week before.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 01/03/2021 16:33

I don't mind them being lower now because we have the promise of wonderful numbers to come Grin

SunsetGirl · 01/03/2021 17:27

@PuzzledObserver If it comes to that, they can program another tab just for the vaccine. :)

CaveMum · 01/03/2021 18:18

Great research out today from PHE - a single dose of either AZ or Pfizer reduces the risk of hospitalisations in the over 80s by 80%.

Additionally the single dose reduces the risk of symptomatic infection in the over 70s by 60% after 3 weeks.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56240220

PuzzledObserver · 01/03/2021 18:30

I realise that an 80% reduction in hospitalisation in the over 80’s is fantastic, I do. Unfortunately my expectations had been set by the trial results (in younger subjects) in which nobody was hospitalised.

For me, this emphasises the importance of everyone else getting vaccinated, not just the most vulnerable. The more people are immune, the less it can circulate.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/03/2021 18:49

I think perhaps the trial results were for both doses, not just the first one? Whereas the 80% figure which has just come out is for a single dose. If one were just as effective as two, we wouldn't need to have two.

Paddy1234 · 01/03/2021 18:54

Our staffing stats have increased 3% in past week - hopefully having to get a vaccine passport is kicking in so the need to travel is above that of being tracked and growing two heads

PuzzledObserver · 01/03/2021 18:59

Good point, @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

WombatChocolate · 01/03/2021 19:08

Yes, lots of people will be vaccinated sooner than they think.
The 7.3 million people in group 6 also appear in their relevant age group population size. The 60s and 50s groups will have a big chunk of them, so those age group cohorts will be got through faster and that means the 40S can be moved into.

Another thing speeding the charge through the age groups, for those keen to get jabbed sooner rather than later is that as we go down the ages, fewer people initially take the jab due to less risk factor to themselves. On one level this isn’t so good, but on another it means they will whizz down the age groups offering it to those who will take it. Those who are slow to respond to the website or their letter will get followed up and chased, so most eventually will be done. But the last ones remaining unvaccinated won’t just be in the 18-29 group....it will be people from all the older age groups who just need a bit more chasing and individual follow-up to get on with it. Not everyone is chomping at the bit to get it, not because they are anti-vaxxers, but just not so desperate to be done. Hard to imagine that on MN, but the reality is lots of people are not overly interested in it or in a hurry and will just take a couple of weeks or even months to get round to it.

But for those keen to get jabbed, it probably means it will be sooner than many people think.

Conga lines to the vaccine centres has really made me laugh!

ErrolTheDragon · 02/03/2021 12:37

No conga line today in the vast corridors of the town hall today - very well organised with massive spacing. And I got a sticker!Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2021 13:55

Fab sticker!

buttery81 · 02/03/2021 14:01

It’s only 12 weeks since the very first person in the UK (Margaret Keenan) got her first dose of vaccine. Astonishing to think that since then, we’ve jabbed over 20 million more!

Yay thousands more people protected 🥳

HalfGalHalfCake · 02/03/2021 16:27

Received mine last Saturday. All incredibly easy. Received a text from the GP surgery, booked online. 1:30 appointment, turned up, jabbed by 1:35. Sat down in a waiting area afterwards for 15 mins to make sure I didn't drop dead

Kudos to all involved
