Vaccine Envy

Anybody starting to feel ltwinges of the green eyed monster?
On the one hand I'm pleased that even more vulnerable people have suddenly been added the list, theres clearly a need for it, but secretly im a little bit disappointed that it now means it could be months before I get my get Get of jail free card.
I know it's not nice to feel this way but I can't help it.
I'd.never say anything irl.

OP posts:
Beaniecats · 17/02/2021 00:43

No
Its not going give us our freedoms back, still under government restrictions so what difference does a vaccine mean?

Beaniecats · 17/02/2021 00:44

@PersonaNonGarter

Thinking of getting your vaccines as a 'get out of jail' card is probably not very accurate, though.

Isn’t this exactly what it is though? The vaccine will literally get us out from house arrest.

I’m in the under 50s tranche so by the time I get it everyone should definitely be getting out of jail.

It won't release us from house arrest
ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 17/02/2021 00:45

The vaccination protects you protects others and hopefully allow in person access to geographies, venues and events when they eventually become available.

Rubybluesy · 17/02/2021 00:49

Me too... especially when I hear about friends around the same age getting it before me

user234987653 · 17/02/2021 00:54

They have already stated those added to the shielding list will still be expected to shield after they have had two doses.

How is that a "get out of jail free" card.

Maybe read the news articles more completely?

Kintsugi16 · 17/02/2021 00:55

Jealousy isn’t an emotion I have ever experienced tbh. I don’t understand your post, those vaccinated still have to follow the same rules. What exactly is there to be jealous of? Confused

SpeakingFranglais · 17/02/2021 06:01

I did but now I don’t.

Two of DDs nurse friends have tested positive in the last 7 days, both four weeks post Pzifer.

DH and I have had covid
beginning of Jan and DH offered plasma but his bloods came back that his immunity was scored at 21 with 0.8 being the lowest and 250 the highest, so nowhere near good enough for plasma therapy.

I now feel deflated, like even with the vaccine and/or previous infection it’s all still not a get out of jail card.

ChocOrange1 · 17/02/2021 06:07

I'm asthmatic so I've just been bumped down the list from group 6 to group 10. Fine with me, I am not at risk so why would I get it over someone who is?

The more people are vaccinated, the sooner we can go back to normal. The higher risk the vaccinated people are, the quicker the pressure will be eased on the NHS. Me getting the vaccine would be nice for me, but it won't make any difference tu the NHS because I'm very very unlikely to be hospitalised anyway. Everyone will get their turn eventually and at the rate they're going it wont be long to wait.

Frenchdressing · 17/02/2021 06:09

Is that not a total misunderstanding of the vaccine? Getting vaccinated doesn’t suddenly give you any new freedoms. We’re all still locked down.

DarceyDashwood · 17/02/2021 06:14

I think people saying “I’ve been vaccinated and it doesn’t change anything” or “it wouldn’t change anything” perhaps don’t understand what the last year has been like for some people with anxiety. Of course it changes something! It means that you won’t get seriously ill or die! The vaccine means more than being able to go shopping or the pub for some people - it perhaps means being able to sleep better at night (yes agree if anxiety is that bad then maybe think about getting help etc etc)

Don’t underestimate what that weight being lifted will feel like for some people!

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/02/2021 06:33

Its not a get out of jail card, still got to wear masks, not able to mix in large groups. Still got to follow the rules.

Pisses me off that people keep throwing their toys out their prams. Stomping their feet says it's not fair x y z have had their vaccine.

motherrunner · 17/02/2021 06:34

Not envious, just concerned.

I’m a mid-40s secondary teacher so not in any priority groups. I’m concerned because I hear/read ‘as soon as I have it I won’t be SD it wearing masks’ etc. Well that’s all well and good for you but some of us won’t be protected. I worry that if that parents/grandparents of the 150+ pupils I teach have that attitude then I’ll be in even a more vulnerable position than before.

PhilCornwall1 · 17/02/2021 06:37

but secretly im a little bit disappointed that it now means it could be months before I get my get Get of jail free card.

It isn't though is it? I've had my first one and have just been told to shield for longer, no surprise at all.

"Get out of jail free card" it certainly isn't and never was going to be.

Kintsugi16 · 17/02/2021 06:38

I am slightly confused about how they’re rolling out this vaccine. Where I live it all seems to be a bit random with people being called up in a strange order.
I’m not jealous, just slightly puzzled!

PersonaNonGarter · 17/02/2021 06:42

Its not a get out of jail card, still got to wear masks, not able to mix in large groups. Still got to follow the rules.

But the vaccine is the way to freedom. That’s why it’s so exciting that the UK is getting it. It is the Get Out of Jail card.

Covid-19 is not going away. But we are going to be able to live with it. LIVE with it. So yes mixing with people in large groups and so on. Combined with wider use of lateral flow tests, and vaccine updates, we should be back on the path to more or less normal life.

I’m interested to hear what people think is the Get Out of Jail card if it isn’t the vaccine.

But we all ‘get out of jail’ at the same time regardless, it’s just that some people will have hold of the card before others

Jealousy and envy aren't the same thing. It's natural to feel slightly envious that others are getting something that you want so much. I can't wait to have mine. I'm really pleased for those that have had theirs, but slightly envious too. Definitely not jealous though.
Redpenbluepen · 17/02/2021 07:11

It doesn't protect against the African varian, which will now run rampant?

Mindymomo · 17/02/2021 07:12

I went with my DH last night for him to get his vaccine with the off chance of getting any leftovers with no luck. I am 59 so not too long to wait, but at least my vulnerable DH will be getting protection soon and it’s lifted his spirits.

Meredithgrey1 · 17/02/2021 07:12

PP makes a great analogy in that 800k people is less than three days worth of vaccinations at current rate, although BBC is reporting an additional 1.7m - that's still less than a week.

The 1.7m additional people are the people they’ve said to shield, a significant percentage of them have already been vaccinated, leaving about 800k who haven’t. BBC also reporting that most of the 800k were due to be vaccinated in the next phase anyway, and they will just try to bring them forward to the front end of the phase. So it’s very few extra people added to the priority vaccine group.

Kintsugi16 · 17/02/2021 07:13

Ah ok,
I got confused as in title but not OP

I still don’t get it though.

User133847 · 17/02/2021 07:30

Not yet. Just accepted i'll have to write another summer off.

It'll be annoying once the vaccinated go off on their summer holidays with their vaccine cards.

you'll still will be able to go. with a pcr. the country I want to go to takes vaccine cards or pcr as proof no virus. have you seen what is going on around Europe regarding cards? do you really think they'll only allow to travel to those with the vaccine when their numbers are the moment are so low? it doesnt make sense to request only a vaccine for entry
EasterIssland · 17/02/2021 07:47

and anyway I'm 36 yo woman and healthy ... I'll bee vaccinated by summer time most likely according to the calculator...

Bedforme · 17/02/2021 07:49

I am a bit. I know it is irrational because it is not a cure. I know the same measures are still needed to protect everyone including the person already vaccinated.
