Vaccine Envy

likeamillpond · 16/02/2021 23:14

Anybody starting to feel ltwinges of the green eyed monster?
On the one hand I'm pleased that even more vulnerable people have suddenly been added the list, theres clearly a need for it, but secretly im a little bit disappointed that it now means it could be months before I get my get Get of jail free card.
I know it's not nice to feel this way but I can't help it.
I'd.never say anything irl.

@poppycat10

I won't get vaccine envy as long as vaccine passports aren't introduced.

I'll be annoyed if I am not allowed to do things because I've not been vaccinated yet (not because I've refused a vaccine).

I dread vaccine passports being introduced. So much for getting rid of queues. I won't be queuing to get into pubs or shops, I just won't go. After all I've managed for the past year without non-essential shops being open for much of the time.

This! I don’t think they morally can introduce any vaccine passports until a vaccine is offered to the entire population, which is predicted in Autumn. The inequality would be due to age, with older people allowed to get on with life and the young not allowed to travel/socialise. I can’t see how this can be introduced until vaccination programme is complete.
Kintsugi16 · 19/02/2021 07:56

I can’t see any vaccine passports being introduced anytime soon tbh. They’re not even bothering to write names on vaccine cards

Kintsugi16 · 19/02/2021 07:58

I also don’t anticipate vaccine passports being needed for shops. Travel and clubs yes and possibly pubs, but the sort of pubs I visit won’t be having a queue.

The inequality would be due to age. and medical vulnerability

Kind of the people who have had the shitty end of the stick for the last 11 months?

The idea that you can just shut away the most vulnerable has had a lot of traction over that time. Now that who the 'most vulnerable' is changing, it doesn't seem either fair or appealing any more, does it.

Totally agree.

I’m hoping to take DM to an actual shop next week and there’s a possibility we may even be able to have a hug soon. She’s really suffered and being her family ‘bubble’ has put immense pressure on us too.

@VicarofDibley

I would rather be fit and healthy and not cev because of severe asthma. I am shielding, not at work, staying in .Feel incredibly guilty because I am not at work. Nope nothing to be jealous of here .
As lots and lots of people having posted, we aren’t jealous of people who are vulnerable, unwell or old getting the jab, but people who are young, fit and working from home who have the vaccine by virtue of their ‘occupation’. If i am expected to go to work with large numbers of people every day in poorly ventilated environments and not allowed to wear a mask, I think that is very unfair. Why doesn’t my occupation warrant being prioritised when other people’s does, but they can remain WFH?

Seems like an odd thing to be envious or jealous of. For the most part those getting the vaccine early are doing do because they have a health problem or are adanced in years.
Be grateful for being in good health and having your life ahead of you.
Reminds me of the thread where people were jealous of those with a blue badge because they got free parking . Well personally I would give up dhs blue badge tomorrow or place in the vaccine queue for him to be in good health.

O dear I should hVe refreshed page before posting.

AnneFuckingKirrin · 19/02/2021 09:35

I’ve had my first dose, nothing has changed for me either.
I can still get COVID and pass it on to others, I still have to self isolate if I come into contact with someone who has COVID.
Ido feel more optimistic now though, I don’t feel like this is going to go on forever anymore and I did feel that way after my vaccine. I hope you all get yours soon.

Theeffectofthevaccine · 19/02/2021 10:20

@piddocktrumperiness

What's New Zealand's approach to the vaccine?

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 19/02/2021 11:01

@FebFrosting

Counsellors, OT’s, music therapists etc are in the health and social care group, and it does not matter if working from home they are eligible.
Let’s hope they will all be prepared to come into school to supervise the children when all the unvaccinated teachers are off work for two weeks with Covid then. It’s bloody ridiculous.
welshmercury · 19/02/2021 11:06

I understand your feelings as In my area right now whole households are being called up with no health problems but I know my 55 yo BFF with Parkinson’s, diabetes and morbidly obese has not been offered but 30 yo with zero health/carer are. I don’t mind waiting my turn but it seems a bit like the Wild West at the moment.

Also even with vaccine social distancing is here for a long while. It’s a vaccine not a cure. Just means you won’t get as sick hopefully.

Stay at home, protect the NHS, save the unvaccinated

piddocktrumperiness · 19/02/2021 16:58

@Theeffectofthevaccine
Border workers and essential/frontline staff first and foremost to ensure reduced transmission in the community

piddocktrumperiness

Ah yes, makes sense

SeldomFollowedIt · 19/02/2021 19:06

Don’t give a shit tbf. Get the vaccine and you still need to be locked down.

Anawi · 19/02/2021 19:48

I definitely am! I wish I didn't but I am definitely feeling envious. I completely understand the need for prioritising the oldest and those with the most serious health complications. But the more I hear of relatively young and healthy people being vaccinated and 'they don't know why' or by being in the right place at the right time, the more it bothers me. I feel no resentment or envy towards any individual in particular, if someone has the need for the vaccine or the opportunity to have it, then fair enough, absolutely take it. But I am feeling frustrated by it.

I'm 39, a teacher, have been working my normal work days in school all year, facing being back in a full classroom in 2 weeks time and like others have mentioned, the only mitigations in place to prevent virus spread is....wash your hands, open a window and a line of tape. I am also asthmatic and my asthma has been the very worst it has ever been in my life in the last 12 months, not well controlled and I am now on medication that in the first lock down would have meant I got told to shield. Now, I'm not even sure I will qualify for group 6, and I am worried about the further effect it could have on my asthma if I catch covid. My asthma started to get worse after a virus last March, so the prospect of an unvaccinated return to schools being fully open is pretty scary for me right now. Sad

Fantail · 19/02/2021 20:11

Vaccines started yesterday in NZ with vaccinators being vaccinated. Border workers and then their families start from today.

But there are three scenarios to vaccine roll-out depending on the level of controlled/uncontrolled community spread - www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-getting-vaccine#scenarios

Currently, we are in the low risk scenario. Auckland is at Level 2 (basically no large gatherings and social distancing measures), rest of country is Level 1 (pretty much normal). The only change at Level 1 at the moment is face masks on public transport
