Anybody starting to feel ltwinges of the green eyed monster?
On the one hand I'm pleased that even more vulnerable people have suddenly been added the list, theres clearly a need for it, but secretly im a little bit disappointed that it now means it could be months before I get my get Get of jail free card.
I know it's not nice to feel this way but I can't help it.
I'd.never say anything irl.

MangoButterFingers · 17/02/2021 11:20

But we all ‘get out of jail’ at the same time regardless, it’s just that some people will have hold of the card before others

This. The jail exists until almost everyone is vaccinated. Therefore, even though I now hold a card, it's not valid until everyone else holds one too. Plus, I literally got a letter this morning telling me I should shield until end of March, at least. So the vaccine hasn't increased my personal liberty.

Almost half a million people a day are being vaccinated. At 30 year old with no underlying health issue can expect to get their first vaccine some time in May/June - according to this calculator: www.omnicalculator.com/health/vaccine-queue-uk

(I used this calc. to track my own vaccine estimated date and it was surprisingly accurate)

StCharlotte · 17/02/2021 11:21

What group are you in OP? It may not make any difference to you. It might just be the higher groups shuffling around?

No one gets out of jail until we all get out of jail. Sadly.

I get a bit annoyed when people in lower groups than I am are now getting it but it really does seem to depend on where you live and possibly which GP practice you're with.

Ironically, they had hoped to avoid situations where one area was still on Group 4 while another was gaily jabbing Group 6 . The vaccines should be more evenly spread geographically and I don't know how this situation has arisen. You would expect some variation but not to the extent that is apparent now.

likeamillpond · 17/02/2021 11:40

@SchrodingersUnicorn

I think they didn't think through 'health and social care staff' carefully enough. Makes sense to prioritise patient facing staff working in hospitals/surgeries ie where you see sick or frail people. But prioritising 'frontline' staff who see a few healthy people for eye testing a day with PPE, and back office staff and social workers working mostly from home seeing a couple of families a week with the option of a mask whilst expecting teachers to teach 200 kids a day with no distancing or masks, and expecting prison officers to physically wrangle prisoners is a massive kick in the teeth.

They can't have it both ways. Either education is as important as health/eye/teeth care and the people who work in it are protected accordingly, or they keep schools closed. Including key worker bubbles, those TAs should be vaccinated if they want them open!

And the police, who can't close, needed those vaccines far more than an NHS admin worker behind a perspex screen in a covid secure office with PPE.

I does seem unfair.

I'm at the top end of group 8 .
I had it in my mind I would be vacinated within the next week or so because they are ahead in my area and whizzing through the over 65s.
When i heard a day ago that lots more were being added to the vulnerable list, it made me realise there would now be 7 million more in front of me! Which would push me back in the queue.
I was disappointed and yes a bit envious, which I think is only natural going by some of the replies on here.
It doesn't mean to say I'm not pleased that others are getting their vacinne.

Maths isn't your strong point, is it? The ones being "put in front of you" were always in front of you.

And then I would be envious of you because I'm group 6 and would have been behind you...

But I agree with Moondust001 and stand by my earlier point. I don't think it will make any difference to you as it will be the groups above shuffling about.

It's still all shit though Grin

There is an underlying fear and anxiety this time round, and I can see why people are feeling jealous as it’s coming from a different place. If there had been no need for this lockdown I think people would have felt differently. I was more concerned about my partner but can feel the anxiety more as DS2 has been recommended for off license and whilst I am group 6 we are on group 5 and carers are below medical at the surgery cluster and DP is group 7. I was perfectly calm and now suddenly feel anxious for DS2 sake. I know I am healthy as is DP and I have to keep reminding myself my feeling are not justified by the risks.

They have expanded the group of vulnerable people. From 2 million up to 7 million.
Everybody in 7, 8 and 9 will now have to wait a bit
What part of that can't you grasp?

I do feel it a bit on behalf of DD as the only one in our family not vaccinated.

DH and I had ours as in category 3/4. DS had his as NHS. DD is a healthy 25 year old so way back im the queue but is a teacher and dreading going back into a class of 30 teenagers soon. I would happily have given her mine.

RuthTopp · 17/02/2021 13:34

I had mine last week the same time as my dh. He was in group 4 , and I am group 6 . He had a call from his GP to go , he mentioned me and they added me to attend with him and get it done.

EarlGreywithLemon · 17/02/2021 13:59

@DarceyDashwood

I think people saying “I’ve been vaccinated and it doesn’t change anything” or “it wouldn’t change anything” perhaps don’t understand what the last year has been like for some people with anxiety. Of course it changes something! It means that you won’t get seriously ill or die! The vaccine means more than being able to go shopping or the pub for some people - it perhaps means being able to sleep better at night (yes agree if anxiety is that bad then maybe think about getting help etc etc)

Don’t underestimate what that weight being lifted will feel like for some people!

This exactly. I’m having mine today (group 6) but still won’t breathe easy until my husband has his (group 10).
BogRollBOGOF · 17/02/2021 14:09

I'm not due to get one until whenever 40+ in good health and low risk lifestyle get called up.
I'm pleased to hear of people 50+ in the family being vaccinated (no qualifying underlying issues)

With spring coming, naturally reducing rates of respiritory illness, and more and more people being vaccinated, it's all positive steps in us all finally being able to live properly, see people we love, get a proper education, work with colleagues, go to stimulating places and not exist in a vacuous suspended animation indefinitely.

I have heard several radio adverts from Saga advertising their cruises- claiming to be covid compliant. As a moaning 30 something, I am frustrated that my livelihood has been threatened by this virus, my social life completely in tatters (I live alone, single) and my holidays from last. year scrapped. My dad who is in his 70's (flouting all throughout this crisis) cannot wait to book his cruise now he's vaccinated. I am a little bitter yes, seeing as cruises are what fuelled this mess in the first place. I still think they got the groupings wrong. We should have followed New Zealand's approach to the vaccine. Them and Israel.

RancidOldHag · 17/02/2021 14:43

The claim to be covid compliant is based on an accreditation from Lloyd's Reguster

newsroom.saga.co.uk/news/saga-moves-a-step-closer-to-sailing-with-award-of-new-covid-safety-accreditation

I think that will rapidly become industry standard for all British cruise lines

They are also still offering a covid guarantee, should future cruises not be able to go ahead because of restrictions

newsroom.saga.co.uk/news/saga-launches-latest-holiday-range-as-it-looks-ahead-to-return-of-travel

But yes, it is possible to book a holiday. As it is with many other firms.

But there won't be any sailings until cruises are permitted

Jackie2022 · 17/02/2021 14:48

lol

There’s absolutely no way I’d feel jealous of anyone having the vaccine. I’m young and healthy and happy about that, even if it means I’m the lowest vaccine priority. Not to be nasty but I’d rather not have a health issue that makes me vulnerable, thanks.

MyBossIsATwat · 17/02/2021 14:51

I don’t resent the people who have already had it but I do wish I already had too, and regularly check my phone I’m case there’s a text or missed call from the GP with an invite. An unhealthy amount of checking.

Is that jealousy or envy or just impatience, I’m not sure.

As I said above-I don’t begrudge anyone who is unwell, shielding or elderly having the jab.

I am annoyed by healthy people who are younger then me who have been vaccinated and continue to work happily from home, whilst I have to go work with large numbers of people at very close range for hours at a time, and am not allowed to wear a mask.

Jackie2022 · 17/02/2021 15:55

They belong to professions where they were selected for vaccinated, but remain WFH.

How is it that it' gone from 2 million up to 7million?

"An extra 1.7 million people are expected to be added to the 2.3 million already on the list.
Of the 1.7 million people newly added to the list, around 900,000 have already received an offer of a vaccination because they were over 70."

So 900k... where is the remaining 4m that you are mentioning OP?
www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56086965

WombatChocolate · 17/02/2021 16:41

Yes, it's 900,000 extra added to shielding list who haven't been vaccinated yet.

The vast vast majority of these if not all, mwoukdnwouldnt have been in Group 5 or 6 anyway....it is just meaning they move to top of those groups. But for those in groups 7-9 and beyond, it really won't have an impact because it's not people from those groups moving up.

I am in group 6 and check my phone too much for a text. It can become a bit all consuming....better to keep busy really.
