Are we feeling optimistic that schools WILL start returning from Monday? *MNHQ editing to note that this thread refers to schools in Scotland (WHICH IS FINE BY THE WAY AS THE SCOTS GET THIS ALL THE TIME IN THE OTHER DIRECTION signed a Scottish MNHQer)*

Does anyone know what time the address to MPs is due? I'm assuming it will be live streamed in Parliament before an official announcement later in the afternoon?

Are you talking about England? Schools aren’t going back before 8th March as Boris promised 2 week notice

Alwaysready · 16/02/2021 10:52

So it's due to be announced next week 22nd feb. But return until 8th March.

I think they'll start with the youngest, but I wouldnt be optimistic for secondary yet. Personally I think Easter makes more sense.

Seeline · 16/02/2021 10:52

He also promised 2 weeks notice of any return.

Lottie4 · 16/02/2021 10:53

Next Monday will give schools two weeks notice, but if he makes his announcement after 5pm, that'll be down to 13 days.

ChocOrange1 · 16/02/2021 10:55

They've already said that the earliest schools will return is 8th Marchx and they will give 2 weeks notice

Vargas · 16/02/2021 10:57

I'm optimistic that exam years will go back on 8th, at the very least. I'm in London and cases have plummeted. I have 50+ year friends getting called up for vaccination and quite a few younger friends who have dashed out for last minute vaccinations at end of day. Hopefully vulnerable and/or older teachers will be in the same boat and most will have had first vaccination by the 8th.

herecomesthsun · 16/02/2021 10:57

I'm feeling hopeful that there is potential for appropriate caution if needed. Hopefully, we have learnt from previous mistakes.

DumplingsAndStew · 16/02/2021 10:58

The plan was for schools to return for younger pupils and those in exam years (on a part time basis) from 22nd February, but it hasn't been confirmed yet to be going ahead for sure.

There's an announcement due today. I'm just wondering if people think it's likely to go ahead or not.

Not in England?

Eccle80 · 16/02/2021 11:00

I think some years will go back, so he can say he stuck to the 8th March, but not all. Probably R, 1, 11, 13 if some years

confusednortherner · 16/02/2021 11:00

I understood it as announcement on 22nd and start returning on 8th earliest..... that's what our headteacher has said as well.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 16/02/2021 11:00

@DumplingsAndStew the Scottish schools may start to reopen from next week there is a briefing today.

English schools will definitely not, Boris had already said he's HOPING they can start going back from 8th March but there will be a lockdown release PLAN with tentative dates announced on 22nd Feb.

The announcement today is in relation to Scotland and some going back on Monday isn’t it?
MirandaWest · 16/02/2021 11:01

I’m assuming the OP is talking about Scotland

That’s the case for sure. We have already been given the next fortnight’s work for after half term.
DianaT1969 · 16/02/2021 11:03

Which country are you in OP?

DumplingsAndStew · 16/02/2021 11:04

I'm not talking about England, as they haven't suggested schools there will start returning on the 22nd.

Is anyone feeling optimistic that this afternoon's announcement will be going ahead with this plan to return?

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 16/02/2021 11:05

Why did you put UK not Scotland in your post?

Seeline · 16/02/2021 11:07

Well you mentioned MPs in your post and specifically referrred to the UK.

The UK have different plans for each nation.
Don't Scotland have MSPs?

Where are you talking about OP?

blue25 · 16/02/2021 11:08

You should have been clearer in your OP 🙄

RedskyBynight · 16/02/2021 11:11

Wales are also planning for some year groups to return next week, I think?

DumplingsAndStew · 16/02/2021 11:11

@ineedaholidaynow

Why did you put UK not Scotland in your post?
Because I'm in the UK Confused

I made it clear that we have been told schools might be returning from Monday. I'm not asking for people to tell me whether I'm wrong about that or not, I'm asking if people think it might go ahead.

OP posts:
MrsMercedes · 16/02/2021 11:14

We were told we would get 2 weeks notice before ANY returns to school...... so that’s not Monday is it?!

MrsMercedes · 16/02/2021 11:15

No I don’t think it will be Monday at all

WheeshtTheNoo · 16/02/2021 11:15

The briefing starts at 2.15 on Bbc today so will find out our fate then. I'm really hoping Nicola doesn't do a u-turn and change the date for the p1-p3 to return.
