Are we feeling optimistic that schools WILL start returning from Monday? *MNHQ editing to note that this thread refers to schools in Scotland (WHICH IS FINE BY THE WAY AS THE SCOTS GET THIS ALL THE TIME IN THE OTHER DIRECTION signed a Scottish MNHQer)*

Does anyone know what time the address to MPs is due? I'm assuming it will be live streamed in Parliament before an official announcement later in the afternoon?

OP back on the glue

confusednortherner · 16/02/2021 11:16

Is everyone else confused?!? 😂 I'm assuming we aren't discussing England?

southeastdweller · 16/02/2021 11:18

I don't think OP has ever heard of the word 'devolution'.

idontlikealdi · 16/02/2021 11:19

Why don't you just say Scotland?

Lol. Well done on the car crash of a thread OP!

DumplingsAndStew · 16/02/2021 11:19

@WheeshtTheNoo

The briefing starts at 2.15 on Bbc today so will find out our fate then. I'm really hoping Nicola doesn't do a u-turn and change the date for the p1-p3 to return.
Thank you.

Do you know if the announcement she makes in parliament will be screened beforehand?

How are you feeling about things? Do you think it's likely to go ahead?

TheGoodEnoughWife · 16/02/2021 11:20

How bizarre that you didn't mention you meant Scotland. I know we like a 'all in it together' however at the moment there is a real divide between our different areas so saying Scotland would have been helpful. As would not get sarky to those that talk about England or question exactly where you are talking about.

I doubt any schools anywhere will be going back on Monday.

OliveTree75 · 16/02/2021 11:20

Eh? Grin

dementedpixie · 16/02/2021 11:20

@DumplingsAndStew

The plan was for schools to return for younger pupils and those in exam years (on a part time basis) from 22nd February, but it hasn't been confirmed yet to be going ahead for sure.

There's an announcement due today. I'm just wondering if people think it's likely to go ahead or not.

That is the plan for Scotland, not England
Passthebubbly · 16/02/2021 11:21

Scotland here op. Yes I do think it will go ahead as she set out today I presume will just be to confirm. I would hope we will get an update as to the plans for all the other year groups not going back on Monday also.

DumplingsAndStew · 16/02/2021 11:21

@JaneNorman

OP I assume you’re deliberately being a twat about location as some kind of point in relation to the thread the other day about MN being too UK centric which then quickly turned into it being too England centric?

Just say where you are and what point you’re trying to make ffs.

I am asking a question, which I've made quite clear.

If other people decide to respond in a twat-ish manner, that's on them.

Why didn't you ask on Scotsnet if you wanted Scottish views Hmm

dementedpixie · 16/02/2021 11:23

And why say UK if only one part of the UK is planning to return next week?

DumplingsAndStew · 16/02/2021 11:23

@TheGoodEnoughWife

I doubt any schools anywhere will be going back on Monday.

Really? Sad Why is that?

OP posts:
chipsandgin · 16/02/2021 11:23

Are you talking about Scotland OP?

DumplingsAndStew · 16/02/2021 11:23

Okay.

If you had time to type UK you had time to type Scotland! Your post was not clear. Education is different in all nations, you need to specify which for your post to be clear

Seriously?

I'm not looking for Scottish views, I'm wondering if anyone is feeling positive that the plan for schools due to start returning on Monday will go ahead.

& no, not a chance anyway - still more people in hospital than at the peak of the first wave so probably a good idea to free up a few ICU beds before filling them up again (preferably by sending people home having recovered than having to make unimaginably horrendous decisions about who gets a ventilator & losing more lives..).

dementedpixie · 16/02/2021 11:26

Our school (scotland) has sent info about lateral flow testing for senior age pupils which they will get to carry out home testing twice a week

DumplingsAndStew · 16/02/2021 11:26

How many other posters specify which country they are referencing when talking about schools?
OP posts:
dementedpixie · 16/02/2021 11:27

Why would people in the rest of the UK have views about what's happening in schools in Scotland?

dementedpixie · 16/02/2021 11:27

They do when there are big differences in school years, term dates, exams, etc.
