CEV and not offered vaccine

I was wondering if anyone can help. My husband is in the CEV category but he hasn’t been offered the vaccine. Everywhere we look it seems to suggest he should have had an invite by now. We can’t book online and we tried calling the doctors but they are refusing to let him speak to a doctor. They just say they have an order and because he’s 35 he won’t get an invite yet. I wasn’t aware age was a factor when CEV. We called 119 but they said he needs his doctor to flag him. We’re not sure what to do but have school aged children and we’re really hoping he would have had the first dose by now. Is anyone else CEV and still waiting? Is it our doctors at fault? Any help would be appreciated, it feels like we’re going round in circles.

We have given them 24 hours, they did say it would be done yesterday which is why we called back today. They are now saying they don't know.

From what I understand from your posts, you need the practice manager to call you back. So far today you have managed to speak with two receptionists, one of whom was unable to tell you when the practice manager will call you and the other one took the phone from him and was rude to you. I would try to ring back not saying that it's about the vaccine and just ask to be put through to the practice manager. If no luck, find the email address of the practice manager and put it in writing. Once they have sorted your husband's vaccine, complain about the rudeness of the lady today.

The practice manager isn't in and won't take calls.

Complain in writing and contact your MP. Good luck!

What a sorry state of affairs. Hopefully someone else can offer proper advice, but as a non-expert, I would:

  1. ask on social media nicely for any advice from a local group - it may help break down barriers as all different people read them

  2. Look on the practice website for their complaints procedure. Failing that is it the PCT of CCG?

  3. I your shoes, probably turn up at the fort and refuse to leave given no one will help you in the phone

That's interesting, would our MP be able to do anything? I'd not considered that before. I have found an e-mail address for complaints and we're putting something together now.

*or CCG

I am young CEV and have had the vaccine. Been invited by my doctor my hospital team and the government. They use the same lists as the ones for sending CEV guidance/ letters etc and text messages so if he has been getting those then he should have had an invite for the vaccine. Maybe ring local council. I moved and at the council level they are sharing this info. Good luck.

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/02/2021 15:06

I don't think it can do any harm and depending on how good your MP is it can make a difference. Ultimately you want to put pressure on them to get it resolved and I think based on what you've said you might want to use some external pressure to do that if you can.

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 16/02/2021 16:27

Thanks everyone. I have written up an email to the practice manager and one to our MP. I've sent them to my husband to check and send (he's working upstairs). I guess it's a waiting game now. :(

I know I'll get flamed but I'd go on the nhs website and click yes to be being a social care worker which will give him the appointment

Then Go and take his letter and explain

The centres just want to vaccine the eligible people and he is eligible

Yes I agree, in your situation I'd do this. You've tried to go around things every other way and can't get anywhere. You can explain to the hub once you get there. The most important thing now is that he gets the vaccine he deserves and this sounds like the only way of doing it at the moment! Best of luck to you.

Thanks everyone. He sent off an email to the practice manager and our MP last night. He had a phone call from someone at the surgery today (still not the practice manager) who said they are dealing with the complaint. She asked which was the last shielding letter he had and she seemed to confirm he is entitled based on that but he needs to speak to a doctor as they are the only ones who can change it on the system (which we all knew already). They seemed apologetic today and they have booked him in for a phone call on Friday. So not perfect given he's already had to wait but we don't have many other options at this point.

Now I'm wondering what we do about the children returning to school on the 8th. Our area is above average for cases and my youngest daughter's class has been been closed down recently. I think I may have to speak to the headteachers and see if they will allow us to continue the home learning until Easter. It's not ideal but I'd like him to have the 21 days if possible.

That's good progress, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets his vaccine in the next few days once they've sorted the coding out. We don't actually know that the kids are going back to school on the 8th, honestly I'd just wait and see what is announced next week. By the time BoJo makes the announcement, he is likely to have the appointment lined up if he hasn't already had the vaccine over the weekend.
