CEV and not offered vaccine

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 15/02/2021 09:05

I was wondering if anyone can help. My husband is in the CEV category but he hasn’t been offered the vaccine. Everywhere we look it seems to suggest he should have had an invite by now. We can’t book online and we tried calling the doctors but they are refusing to let him speak to a doctor. They just say they have an order and because he’s 35 he won’t get an invite yet. I wasn’t aware age was a factor when CEV. We called 119 but they said he needs his doctor to flag him. We’re not sure what to do but have school aged children and we’re really hoping he would have had the first dose by now. Is anyone else CEV and still waiting? Is it our doctors at fault? Any help would be appreciated, it feels like we’re going round in circles.

Have you tried booking online without his NHS number, go through the questions it asks answering honestly and see if it will let him book. If it does book him in, and you have the texts to show he is CEV if challenged. If it doesn't go back to the GP.

@superstar84

I had the shielding letter but didn't get an nhs appointment as said I wasn't eligible

I was told just to book Into the vaccine centre using swift queue and take the letter

What area are you in? If we know which nhs trust we can help find the link

It didn't check eligibility just had to tick a box saying I'd bring either shielding letter or nhs invite letter so he'd be able to have it

Thank you. We’re in Leeds. That would be a great help.

We’ve just spoken with 119 again and a lovely guy on there says he sees this all the time. If we have the letter he’s eligible and it’s the gp at fault. That doesn’t help us getting through to a GP Though unfortunately. We’re going to try again.

@Sylvac

Same here. DH has had all of the letters. Active cancer and so clearly hits the criteria.

The GP won't take any calls about it. It looks as if the GP may have removed the flag recently although why they would think they should do that given that he is under treatment doesn't make any sense.

119 say to talk to the GP

The consultant says that he should have been done and can't understand why not but can't request it himself (this maybe as the specialist centre is in a different region- not sure)

I also know of a couple of other people. It really gets my goat when people on here requote the government saying that everyone can book. They simply can't.

I have spent hours on this and in the end we have given up.

I’m sorry to read this. Have you tried lodging a complaint with the surgery?

@Bluntness100

ssOp, can you up load a pic of the body of the letter? There was many letters that went out, so best to be sure your understanding is correct.
Here it is.

Leeds only seem to be using the nhs booking system rather than a local one so until his notes are updated I think you'll struggle to get one booked unfortunately

Our local one is by a company called swiftqueue if it Helps

superstar84 · 15/02/2021 11:21

I'd be tempted to go to a COVID vaccine centre near by and show them the letter

Worse is they can't help but best he might get it

Inpersuitofhappiness · 15/02/2021 11:21

Should have been offered it by now. How can they refuse to help?
I was downgraded from cev to at risk, and got the ability to book my vaccine on Friday just gone .

That’s a shame, thank you anyway for your help.

Did you try online without the NHS number and answering the questions instead? One of the questions asks about being CEV.

superstar84 · 15/02/2021 11:40

Try this phone number and I'd ask so email including a copy of that letter showing his nhs no on it

When I struggled to book mine the helpline said to contact the patient experience team if I couldn't get it when I went to the local site

How irritating! I hope it gets sorted soon.

Yes we tried this. It doesn’t work either with or without his nhs number.

It only asks you about being CEV if the system already recognises that you’re eligible for the vaccination.
CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 15/02/2021 12:45

Success! He just called the gp back again and it turns out after he called earlier and asked to lodge a complaint the first response was the practice manager asking for them to check if he had been flagged correctly on their system. It turns out not. So there was a lot of apologising from the receptionist and they’re going to get it fixed for him today. Such a relief. We should be getting a call back later to confirm it’s been done and then he can go ahead and book. Thank you for all the help and advice.

Great news.

Frazzled2207 · 15/02/2021 12:48

Fab result

Lurkingforawhile · 15/02/2021 12:53

If you've got the recent sheilding letter then you're definitely in the CEV group. Pleased that you found it even if it just means that you've got some evidence now now. If you don't have any luck with the practice I would try your MP, as it's very clear that everyone who is in group 4 should have been offered now.

Lurkingforawhile · 15/02/2021 12:54

Oops! Cross post from me. That's great news, but a shame he was missed originally.

RevolutionRadio · 15/02/2021 12:54

It asked me if I was CEV and it gave a yes no or unsure option.

NeverWillIEver · 15/02/2021 13:12

Glad you got it sorted OP.

Has your DP had MRI 's as well as the LP ?

If so you might want to consider seeing a private neurologist? Men, although less likely to get MS do suffer with more extreme symptoms... so it might be worth pushing the DX and get on medication sooner rather than later.

superstar84 · 15/02/2021 13:55

So pleased it's sorted for you both, it's so stressful isn't it

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 16/02/2021 14:27

Requesting the help of mumsnet again please. They never called us back. We are still unable to book.

My husband tried phoning this morning and couldn't get through. The phone kept going dead when his turn was due. He managed to get through over lunch using my phone. He spoke to a young lad on reception who said he could see it was flagged but no one had looked at it yet. He asked why the practice manager hadn't called him back and he didn't know. He couldn't give a timeframe for when it would happen. So I spoke and explained we were keen for it to be soon so my husband would have some protection built up before the children return to school. He said "it should be before they go back to school" ... Which obviously wasn't what we meant at all and worried us they have no intention of looking at this anytime soon. I asked about how we lodge a complaint as we kept getting mixed messages and we didn't know where else to turn. He didn't know and went to ask. Well the next thing we know another woman comes blazing onto the line shouting that they don't have any vaccine. We both looked at each other in disbelief and so I tried to explain we didn't want to book there and she had her lines crossed. At which point she shouted that I shouldn't shout at her. I hadn't been shouting (I checked with my husband afterwards) and tried again to explain but she just wasn't prepared to listen. Apparently it has been flagged with the practice manager and will get done at some point and they have other people calling about this all the time and they are busy.

I tried to explain again that we were told by 119 that the surgery need to update his file and we can't get it done until they do and they had promised us yesterday it would be done and we would get a call. She tried to tell me they aren't doing his group yet. Which I pointed out can't be true as 119 confirmed he should have had an invite and anyway we were happy to travel, he just needed a doctor to look at his file. She didn't respond. She told us to put any complaints in writing.

We now both feel this GP's surgery no longer resembles the lovely practice we signed up to. We also have the issue that my husband should have been vaccinated and communication seems to have broken down. They can't give any sort of rough timeframe. I feel we have been nothing but polite and I have to say having a shouty woman on the other end of the phone has upset me a bit.

I've been looking for the past half hour trying to find some way around this and I can't. I could put a complaint in but I imagine it will simply be ignored and actually won't get what we want anyway.

Somebody posted this link yesterday (www.leedsccg.nhs.uk/feedback/do-you-have-a-complaint/) and we tried that number. The chap we spoke to was lovely but completely useless. He said a doctor needs to look at his file (which we already knew). He said to make an appointment with the doctor about something unrelated and then ask. I asked what if he can't get one but he said "just keep trying".

We have since done this (or at least put in the request). However past lockdown experience suggests this could take a week or more (if he gets one at all). I'm worried that we are drifting ever closer to the schools going back and we can't afford the fine.

I'm honestly just worn out with it all and embarrassed to admit I had a little cry after that phone call. I'm so worried he's just going to be missed and there seems to be no way to get anyone to look at it.

Help. Are we stuck or is there something else we can try? We'd obviously like to switch doctors after all of this but I think that would be unhelpful at the moment.

OP posts:
Bonsa · 16/02/2021 14:32

Is your surgery signed up to Push Doctor? It’s a virtual GP appointment which a lot of surgeries are using. Could that be one way of him getting in front of a GP?

Could you go to the surgery in person yourself and simply refuse to leave until you can speak to the manager?

What a nightmare!

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 16/02/2021 14:38

As far as I'm aware they are not (perhaps why they are struggling to cope). I've since deleted SM but when I was on facebook this surgery was well talked about as having gone drastically downhill during the pandemic. They haven't handled any of it well, it probably shouldn't be a surprise they are struggling with the vaccine too.

It has crossed my mind but I think they will just escalate things further. I was honestly taken back by how aggressive that woman I spoke to was.

ExpulsoCorona · 16/02/2021 14:39

Where I am, when we rectify this mistake it takes a few hours for the NHS spine to update this information so I think you're being a bit impatient given that they've only tried to rectify this mistake today. I would give it until tomorrow at least before calling back. If you want to complain that's up to you but practices are snowed under trying to sort vaccines at the same time as doing the usual day job let alone then taking time out to respond to complaint letters. It sounds like that they know they are mistaken, why not give them some time to rectify the situation?
