CEV and not offered vaccine

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 15/02/2021 09:05

I was wondering if anyone can help. My husband is in the CEV category but he hasn’t been offered the vaccine. Everywhere we look it seems to suggest he should have had an invite by now. We can’t book online and we tried calling the doctors but they are refusing to let him speak to a doctor. They just say they have an order and because he’s 35 he won’t get an invite yet. I wasn’t aware age was a factor when CEV. We called 119 but they said he needs his doctor to flag him. We’re not sure what to do but have school aged children and we’re really hoping he would have had the first dose by now. Is anyone else CEV and still waiting? Is it our doctors at fault? Any help would be appreciated, it feels like we’re going round in circles.

@RuthTopp

Of you go back on the gov website and go through the questions ( you might see a yellow box saying you do not qualify ) but keep scrolling down and you will see a green box saying book test. It asks for your hosp number but you can also do it just by name. It will ask if you are cev with a yes/no , obvs tick yes . He should get his appointment that way.
It only asks you to confirm if you are CEV if it already knows you are eligible.

In OP’s case, the GP hasn’t put a CEV flag on his name. So the website doesn’t know that he is eligible.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 15/02/2021 10:14

Is it Transverse Myelitis that he has?

Phyzzy · 15/02/2021 10:21

The CEV is flagged against the national database. That's where the shielding letters from Matt Hancock are generated. I also had emails but never texts. I'm surprised he hasn't kept any of the letters as they seemed quite important, however you don't need them as proof for the vaccine because the booking website is linked and will only let you book if you are on the CEV list.
Perhaps your DH is mistaken and is CV but not CEV? This is the group now being done by GPs only they won't be able to book through the website because they are not on a national database. They are being identified via GP records.

Rillington · 15/02/2021 10:22

I had a similar problem with our GP. In the end I demanded a call back from a GP. The GP called and apologised it was an error on the computer system. Keep pushing maybe email or take a letter in.

We never thought we would need them for anything tbh. We also presumed there would be some record of it kept with the GP. Obviously that’s not the case.

Thanks, we’re waiting for someone to call us back. Not a doctor though unfortunately. He’s going to try and book an appointment but that usually takes the best part of a week. If it turns out he is not eligible then that is fine but I think he’s owed some sort of explanation as to why he’s been told to hide away for the last year and why we’ve been getting letters telling him to do so. I’m so disappointed with our surgery. They used to be wonderful but it’s really fallen apart during all of this.

I’ve found a letter! It’s here in black and white, dated 4th November. This is all the proof we will need now surely?

Rillington · 15/02/2021 10:41

@CometCupidDonnerBlitzen Definitely. I am CEV and was able to book online a few weeks ago. My DH should have been in the CV Group 6. He had a heart attack which had been missed off the system. The computer system seems open to errors. I hope you get it sorted out.

JustAnotherBrick · 15/02/2021 10:42

Also would have had had the letters if he was CV?

No, you wouldn’t have done. Neither DD or I (both CV) got anything. But it sounds as though somehow he’s been flagged wrongly somewhere in the system, one way or another. I think if he’s had steroid injections he should have been done under CEV. I’m not sure if that’s the case if he’s at risk of needing them but not on them.

Best thing I think is to insist on speaking to a doctor and complaining if you can’t.

However, I reckon he should get it before schools return either way. I’m hearing of so many group 6’s in different areas starting now.

Mumof1andacat · 15/02/2021 10:43

Is he under a consultant at the hospital? Certain specialties have access to the vaccination program and the patients can book to have the vaccine that way

JustAnotherBrick · 15/02/2021 10:43

I agree that he’s owed some sort of explanation as to why he’s been told to hide away for a year and then when you get to the important point of getting him vaccines, he’s somehow not counted.

I’d have thought so!
misseightyeight · 15/02/2021 10:45

I'm CEV and only received a text message asking me to book about 10 mins ago. I tried to log in and book before that and it wouldn't let me. Maybe wait and see if you get a message today?

Beautiful3 · 15/02/2021 10:46

Book a telephone appointment with his gp and get your husband to ask the gp directly about it.

A Steroid injection won't put someone in the cev group

www.wessexlmcs.com/steroidinjectionsupdatedguidancedec2020

What other meds is he on?

My sister got shielding letters but it would seem in error as she doesn't fit the criteria and can't book a jab

Hope you can get it sorted

No I didn’t suggest it would. I don’t want to go into his full medical history really. The steroid injection was unrelated, just in reference to a reason he spoke to the doctor recently.

ssOp, can you up load a pic of the body of the letter? There was many letters that went out, so best to be sure your understanding is correct.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 15/02/2021 10:52

Where in the UK are you?

FlaminYawn · 15/02/2021 10:54

I don't want a full medical history Confused
I was just trying to help

This flow chart shows which
Meds make a person CEV

www.leedsth.nhs.uk/assets/f6d9e3ac11/Flowchart-Guide-to-Social-Distancing-for-Rheumatology-patients-on-Immunosuppressants-and-Steroids.pdf

Does he have access to a rheumatology helpline at the hospital? They would be able to advise.

Sylvac · 15/02/2021 10:57

Same here. DH has had all of the letters. Active cancer and so clearly hits the criteria.

The GP won't take any calls about it. It looks as if the GP may have removed the flag recently although why they would think they should do that given that he is under treatment doesn't make any sense.

119 say to talk to the GP

The consultant says that he should have been done and can't understand why not but can't request it himself (this maybe as the specialist centre is in a different region- not sure)

I also know of a couple of other people. It really gets my goat when people on here requote the government saying that everyone can book. They simply can't.

I have spent hours on this and in the end we have given up.

superstar84 · 15/02/2021 10:59

I had the shielding letter but didn't get an nhs appointment as said I wasn't eligible

I was told just to book Into the vaccine centre using swift queue and take the letter

What area are you in? If we know which nhs trust we can help find the link

It didn't check eligibility just had to tick a box saying I'd bring either shielding letter or nhs invite letter so he'd be able to have it

Sylvac · 15/02/2021 10:59

@Beautiful3

Book a telephone appointment with his gp and get your husband to ask the gp directly about it.
How do you do that?

I dont think you get how stretched and disfunctional many GPs are.

You can't Book ANY advance appointments at ours

You call in the morning and go on a triage list. They won't put calls about the vaccine on a triage list.
