CEV and not offered vaccine

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 15/02/2021 09:05

I was wondering if anyone can help. My husband is in the CEV category but he hasn’t been offered the vaccine. Everywhere we look it seems to suggest he should have had an invite by now. We can’t book online and we tried calling the doctors but they are refusing to let him speak to a doctor. They just say they have an order and because he’s 35 he won’t get an invite yet. I wasn’t aware age was a factor when CEV. We called 119 but they said he needs his doctor to flag him. We’re not sure what to do but have school aged children and we’re really hoping he would have had the first dose by now. Is anyone else CEV and still waiting? Is it our doctors at fault? Any help would be appreciated, it feels like we’re going round in circles.

Sounds very annoying. Surprised that they literally wont let him speak to a doc. Hopefully someone will call him back but otherwise he needs to keep calling.

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 15/02/2021 09:40

Just to add he did get a shielding letter for this last lockdown too so I don’t think he was removed from the list in the summer.

One thought though could the receptionist mean that they have a lot of CEV people and they are calling them in age order? That could be genuine.

As opposed to saying he has to wait until they’re actually seeing his age group.

SchrodingersUnicorn · 15/02/2021 09:42

Have you tried just booking him through the online booking system with his NHS number?

Yes, it says he’s not eligible.

Maybe try contacting the Practice Manager? The receptionist won't have any authority to do anything and if she won't put you through to A doctors PM is probably the next step.

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 15/02/2021 09:46

The practice manager is on holiday apparently. :/ They said someone will call us back but no idea who or when.

MS by itself doesn't put you in the ECV category. It's classed as CV. Complicating factors such as medication or other conditions can push it to ECV.

BlueTimes · 15/02/2021 09:47

I would get him to write to the Practice Manager at his GP surgery and ask them to either explain why they wrote saying he was ECV if they are now saying he isn’t and won’t vaccinate him.

Good luck.

There are other factors but he has been getting the letters so surely he is flagged somewhere. My understanding is you don’t get the letters in the lower group.

Send an email with FAO Dr X and PM

user1471530109 · 15/02/2021 09:51

Actually, he must be under a consultant? Contact their secretary.

frumpety · 15/02/2021 09:51

Could you email the practice and ask what catergory your DH is listed under ? They may be calling CEV people by age, given age is a risk factor, but it would be nice to know wouldn't it ?.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 15/02/2021 09:52

You're right, you don't get the letters but the GP may have him flagged differently to the government list. The other factors may mean the GP is wrong but it could be the government list is wrong.

RuthTopp · 15/02/2021 09:53

Of you go back on the gov website and go through the questions ( you might see a yellow box saying you do not qualify ) but keep scrolling down and you will see a green box saying book test. It asks for your hosp number but you can also do it just by name. It will ask if you are cev with a yes/no , obvs tick yes . He should get his appointment that way.

Good point my DF is and was called for a vaccination that way, as it happened it was a week after he was vaccinated via the GP hub
chocolateisavegetable · 15/02/2021 09:56

Could he book a doctors appointment for something else, and whilst talking to the doctor about that, also ask about the vaccine?

MrsWhites · 15/02/2021 09:58

I would make a telephone appointment with the GP to discuss his condition and then bring it up with the GP directly. The receptionist clearly isn’t clinically qualified to make a decision on whether your DH is CEV or not.

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 15/02/2021 10:00

He’s not. This was 8 years ago and they told us there was pretty much nothing they could do until/unless he has a second attack. The spinal fluid confirmed he has the markers but it’s the second attack that confirms the diagnosis.

What meds is he on now?

Just followed it through again but can’t see anywhere it asks if he’s CEV. It asks about healthcare staff but that is all. Is this the correct link? www.nhs.uk/book-a-coronavirus-vaccination

I’m wondering if the CEV shielding letters were a mistake rather than now, but I don’t know his full history, obviously.

For context, I’m in a similar position, waiting for what is very likely to be a full MS diagnosis but also with coeliac, another rare autoimmune disease that attacks the pancreas, have had an epileptic fit, asthmatic, among others. I’m group 6 and was CV but not CEV.

I’ve just had my first vaccine under group 6 so I honestly don’t think it won’t be long for him either way.

doireallyneedaname · 15/02/2021 10:09

Outrageous. My 32 year old CEV best friend had hers a couple weeks ago. Ask to speak to the practice manager and put in a complaint.

idontlikealdi · 15/02/2021 10:09

Book a GP appointment and discuss it

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 15/02/2021 10:11

He spoke with the doctor about a month ago in regard to being CEV before having a steroid injection (He had a letter advising him to do so due to the increased risk of infection). I would have hoped if he wasn’t the doctor would have corrected him then.
