Hi,

I have a leaky heart valve and recess free flu jab each year. Pretty sure I’m in JCVI group 6 and so wondering if others in this group have been called up yet?

Im a carer amd can't book online yet. 🤞 it's soon.

unmarkedbythat · 14/02/2021 12:52
@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady I’ve been searching online but not found a conclusive response. I have a leaky mitral valve which is classified as moderate in its severity. I’m pretty sure this comes under heart disease.
I just checked with dh and he confirmed this is what his op was for so it sounds likely you're in the same group as him op? Fingers crossed you get your invite very soon!

whatsthatnow74 · 14/02/2021 13:01

@unmarkedbythat thanks for checking with your DH! Hope he’s recovered from the op? @FlowersBlossom yours sounds very similar to mine. I too am asymptomatic. I have an echo every five years and that’s about it. Was initially told I would need surgery at some point but then told this was probably unlikely. I don’t know if mine is congenital or something which developed later on. Only picked up by chance about fifteen years ago!

I'm diabetic so definitely qualify for group 6, but also have coeliac disease so come in under the spleen dysfunction criterion, have bipolar disorder so qualify under the severe mental illness category, am somewhere around the line when it comes to qualifying via BMI (bloody meds weight gain), and also have asthma, though not severe enough on its own to qualify me. So I'm really bloody keen to get this jab Grin

whatsthatnow74 · 14/02/2021 14:13

@CrayonInThreeBits sounds like there’s no doubt that you’re eligible!!

OP posts:
CrayonInThreeBits · 14/02/2021 14:21

I qualify that many times, I've been selfishly wondering if the GPs might see their way to shuffling me a bit further forward in the several-million-strong Group 6 queue… 😂

Mindymomo · 14/02/2021 15:26

My DH has his appointment on Tuesday, he had a heart bypass last May and has been shielding since. I’m going along in case there are any spares, as it’s an evening appointment.

Abraxan · 14/02/2021 16:50

I'm group 6 and I'm really happy to hear it might be soon.

My parents are group 5 and are booked in for next week.

I'm a little concerned that it will be done by the surgery though as I know my surgery are behind a lot of our city. We have a large elderly population in the area and tbh they've never been great with getting through stuff. They're always a long way behind with flu vaccines for example. I now never wait for them and get mine done elsewhere.

I was hoping it would be through the national link. Group 6 are often in a better position to get to further away vaccine hubs, etc too.

Abraxan · 14/02/2021 16:52

I would really like a system where you can definitely confirm you've been placed in the correct group too. There's no way of knowing if someone has or hasn't ticked the right box from what I can gather.

JustAnotherBrick · 14/02/2021 16:53

Pretty soon, I think, I had mine yesterday and my daughter had hers Friday. We are both group 6.
Won’t be long, OP!

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 14/02/2021 16:54

Yep Im paranoid I'll somehow be missed off or our gp is behind. It would be fab to log om and book and just know.

That would great! I’m wondering if I should just call my GP surgery and ask if I’m on the list 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm group 6 (qualifying health condition) and I'm a carer to my disabled children.

I got the text yesterday and have booked for vaccination on Weds. Greater Manchester.

Great news! Did you receive texts?

Well, I wonder if they might, though no idea if it works that way. Both DD and I are in group 6 for more than one reason (only two for her but they are arguably more serious than mine), me for multiple. One of which is also coeliac. We both seem to have been at the front of the group 6 though I have no idea if that’s just coincidence!

I agree. Despite having three boxes ticked for group 6 (all of which are on my GPs records) I'm still not sure they will have got it right! There isn't any confirmatory system as there is for CEV, so we are rather at the mercy of an administrator somewhere.
JustAnotherBrick · 14/02/2021 17:00

@whatsthatnow74 yes, we both got a text on Thursday (same GP surgery). She saw hers within 2 minutes and booked for Friday - apparently they were disappearing before her eyes as she booked! I didn’t read mine for 3 hours and had to book Saturday but I assume once those were gone they’d have opened up today and beyond.

BrokenCircle · 14/02/2021 17:00

I’m group six, and I’m eagerly waiting my invite. I cheekily tried the link above, but it says I’m not eligible yet. I really, really hope I get vaccinated before schools open fully again (I’m a teacher).

I know. I'd love a simple way to check, even if it was just a message via the Gp app.

I was initially sent the shielding stuff.
But then told I didn't need to shield.
All along I've been told that I am CV and to be careful by the rheumatology department. But they aren't the ones running this. Plus I've also developed another medical issue during this time, which also potentially makes me vulnerable.

I've had covid but I still want the vaccine. There's no way to guarantee I've got immunity and my consultant can't tell me I couldn't catch it again.

But there's just no way of knowing that you're definitely still flagged correctly. If it way just the 'you get it because you have the free flu jab' it'd be fine, we'd know. But because it's now more restricted than that it's impossible.

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/02/2021 17:02

I’m group 6 and got texted late on weds night with link to book and got jabbed Friday morning! Through my GP.

DumplingsAndStew · 14/02/2021 17:06

@FlowersBlossom

Unpaid carers are in group 6, which is a large group, so of course some of them will be called before you, if you are also in group 6. Likewise many will be invited after you. As far as I understand, group 6 is one whole group, and isn't separated into any sort of hierarchy of perceived need.

I hope you get invited soon. It seems most places are moving into group 6 about now.

DumplingsAndStew · 14/02/2021 17:11

I understand that anxiety. I get a flu vaccine invitation each year. I have asthma, and also am a carer for my children. I don't think I qualify under the asthma restrictions. My GP knows I am a carer, but I really couldn't guarantee I've that box checked on their system or not, as I've never asked. I might get invited for the flu vaccine because of the asthma only.

CrayonInThreeBits · 14/02/2021 17:22

i wonder if they might, though no idea if it works that way.

I suspect it'll be fairly random — pragmatically, it makes little difference, even if those of us waiting for a jab are counting the days Grin

CrayonInThreeBits · 14/02/2021 17:25

But yes, like others, I'm nervous about being correctly picked up by the system, especially since I had to change GPs last year and I'm not utterly convinced they've got a very good set of notes for me.

Sevensilverrings · 14/02/2021 17:59

@LemonTT, can I ask, since you sound like you know what your talking about, how Carers will be identified? (I noticed the Green book had narrowed how the criteria is met recently too).
I’m registered as my adult autistic sons carer, but he doesn’t claim PIP (although he’d meet the criteria) and I don’t claim Carers Allowance (work part time), so I don’t know if I will be called.
