Hi,

I have a leaky heart valve and recess free flu jab each year. Pretty sure I’m in JCVI group 6 and so wondering if others in this group have been called up yet?

OP posts:
Heylottie33 · 14/02/2021 19:11

Asthmatic, invited to book on Friday, having jab tomorrow afternoon. I wasn't even sure I was in group 6 although I do have the flu jab. Live in Devon.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 14/02/2021 19:14

I'm feeling impatient now!

whatsthatnow74 · 14/02/2021 19:14

It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks. Especially for those of us who know for sure that they’re Group 6.

PuzzledObserver · 14/02/2021 19:21

I’m group 6 (diabetes) and got a text yesterday inviting me to book. First available appointment was Tuesday. This is in Warwickshire.

I had been checking the national booking site and that was still not allowing me in.

RandomMess · 14/02/2021 19:27

😭😭😭😭

I am so jealous!!

I want my invite - humph

Rockbird · 14/02/2021 19:32

Me too. Group 6 for a couple of reasons and work in a school. I want my first vaccine as soon as possible before 8th March but haven't heard anything yet 😭

whensmynexthol1day · 14/02/2021 20:11

I'm group 6 and had mine two weeks ago. Not sure why as seems a bit early!
I never see my gp for my condition as I get the care I need through my consultant so I did email my practice to check I had the right markers on my file for me to be in group 6 so I wonder whether they just added me to the list there and then. Seems all a bit arbitrary! They seem to be getting through them at such pace though it can't be that long for anyone now.

AnxiousAlpaca · 14/02/2021 20:22

Hi OP you have the same condition as me except mine is minimal regurgitation. Also asymptotic and get echo every 5 years and been told similar to yourself that it’s unlikely to ever need treatment. My GP said I will be in group 6 so you should be too. It’s honestly the most excited I’ve been in a year GrinBlush

ittakes2 · 14/02/2021 20:23

I think if anyone has concerns their underlying conditions have not been recorded properly at their GP its worth a quick message to your GP to check. I did this after reading a mumsnet post and it had turned out that my GP had not recorded a long term condition correctly which they have now fixed.

AnxiousAlpaca · 14/02/2021 20:23

*asymptomatic

andisaidgo · 14/02/2021 20:45

Group 6. Have the Coeliac condition and breast cancer and chronic UTI's all booked for Thursday. Got my text Friday.

Oblomov21 · 14/02/2021 20:49

Each area is different. Our area is almost finished with 6 and 7, and planning to move onto 8 soon. My GP told me this. We are very ahead. Our 2 neighbouring areas are still only doing 6, because their group 6 is huge.

It totally depends on your area.

When you think about it, it's logical. Some areas because of age of population or their medical conditions will have a huge group 6.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 14/02/2021 20:52

😲. Our area was still doing group 4 last week as I took my mum!

MidSummersNightmare · 14/02/2021 21:25

My husband in group 6 got a text today saying he could book followed by a text with a code I think. He’s now got an appointment next week.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/02/2021 21:39

Group 8 soon?!!! That’s me.

Ours are just starting 65-70. And I’m in Yorkshire and we’re meant to be ahead!

CrayonInThreeBits · 14/02/2021 21:56

My area was apparently ahead but the GP in charge here was in the local paper saying we won't be receiving any vaccine for a while until other places catch up Hmm

Akire · 14/02/2021 21:59

That is only fair if other areas are behind because they lack supply. It’s not like they stop one area if others are just working at a slower speed.

IceBearRocks · 14/02/2021 22:03

DH has MS had his 2 weeks ago. I am also a carer to DS11 who is severely disabled. Considered a CEV and been shielded since March.
Not sure who will be doing the caring if I contract Covid....My DS requires full support and is jejunum fed.
Our social worker called last week and offered me the jab...Still waiting to hear from GP.
We have two other children at home.
If we had a paid carer for our DS (we stopped due to shielding) they would have been vaccinated already....For working 15 hours per week...yet I work 168 hours per week..... no vaccine yet! ( yes I am available 24/7 and DS only sleeps until 1or 2am despite sleep medication.
Unpaid carers really are second rate citizens .....

CrayonInThreeBits · 14/02/2021 22:13

Akire I get that it's fair (and more importantly, optimal in terms of prioritising the most vulnerable and therefore reducing hospitalisations, which is after all the point of all this) if areas that have struggled with supply and are getting behind are prioritised for new stocks. It just seems a bit weird that it's all been so lumpy that group 6 people on this thread living in other parts of the country have been vaccinated days ago, while my area hasn't even (as far as I'm aware) begun group 6 yet, but is still described as "ahead" and needing to hang back a bit.

LemonTT · 15/02/2021 13:55
@LemonTT, can I ask, since you sound like you know what your talking about, how Carers will be identified? (I noticed the Green book had narrowed how the criteria is met recently too).
I’m registered as my adult autistic sons carer, but he doesn’t claim PIP (although he’d meet the criteria) and I don’t claim Carers Allowance (work part time), so I don’t know if I will be called.
If you are registered then it will be picked up via the local authority and the Gp practice. It’s very likely you will then be sent a link to book into the services. Or that you details will be released to the national booking system. Probably both.

It’s worth remembering they are organising, announcing, calling and inviting all at the same time. That’s easy for a lot of delivery cohort, age groups are the simplest to do if registered with a GP. It becomes more complex with other green book definitions and means more searches within and outside the NHS. The means to contact people becomes less straightforward as well.

However there is a lot of effort at all levels to ensure no one gets left behind. As we saw with cohorts 1-4, the message of don’t call us we will call you shifted to if we haven’t called then call us in the last week.

LemonTT · 15/02/2021 13:57

I would also find out the nearest pharmacy doing vaccines and call them explaining you are a registered carer. They will be able to slot you in.

LemonTT · 15/02/2021 14:00

It’s worth pointing out that mild asthma was not included in the green book definitions published on Saturday. They will still do you but other people with mild asthma won’t be called officially from this week.

This is very bad information for a GP to be saying. They won’t have completed 6 and they shouldn’t be doing any 7 at all.

What he means is that he is calling in people who only need to be asked once and then moving on. This is bad practice. He needs to making all efforts to get everyone covered and not just trying to run up high claims based on people who are easy to get to at the expense of more vulnerable people.

Sevensilverrings · 15/02/2021 14:19

@LemonTT, thank you for replying. That’s really helpful. Flowers

PrincessNutNuts · 15/02/2021 14:54

Isn't group 6 going to take quite a few weeks to do? And they haven't issued any info on what order within the group people are being done, have they?

The vaccines have been rolling out for 10 weeks now so there are 15 million people soon due for a second jab on the government's 12 week schedule. I'm not sure where that fits in.
