There is likely also some immunity for the most exposed people from previous outbreaks. And many more people wearing masks.

TheCuriousMonkey · 11/02/2021 15:06

Commander yes I think so too! The line on the graph is much steeper this time suggesting the deaths and infection rates seem to be coming down as quickly as they went up, whereas last time they can down much more slowly than they went up.

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/02/2021 16:15

@uncomfortablydumb53

Micropore surgical tape works to seal the mask. I wear glasses, and have used it
Thanks! will try that. Fogging is a real issue.

It's got to that stage of lockdown now when if the dashboard hasn't updated, i find myself questioning my own grip on today's date, rather than it. It is (groundhog...) Thursday, right???

The lockdown impact - 2nd Feb Groundhog Day with the pronouncement this year of another six weeks of winter.

Rumour has it that the groundhog has a guest appearance lined up for a Downing Street Press Conference. The only hold up is whether it would need to quarantine or not.

I imagine, after meeting Boris visiting Downing Street he will need to isolate, yes. Not sure how you get a face mask on a groundhog...?

Watchingbehindmyhands · 11/02/2021 17:22

Urgh! Hate it when the data's late...makes me wondering what they're trying to cover up..!

Same here.
PurpleWh1teGreen · 11/02/2021 17:26

Re masks, I can happily report that my glasses fogged far less after using the anti fog wipe. Not 100% but maybe 80% effective and more importantly they haven't steamed up immediately.

When I looked, there was a choice of disposable wipes or reusable and I have bought a reusable one.

Cornettoninja · 11/02/2021 17:26

I have to say I have a new sense of nervousness after the ZOE figures today. My area has shown a (small) rise for two days in new cases and the national figure barely moved today.

I’m hoping it’s a blip, as I’m sure will happen, but it’s definitely put me on alert for what’s coming over the next couple of weeks.

MRex · 11/02/2021 17:26

At some point the law of averages means it has to be over-checking due to good news, right?

Florelei · 11/02/2021 17:31

13,494 new cases and 678 deaths.

boys3 · 11/02/2021 17:31

Beyond a slightly unusual list of green room requirements, the Groundhog has also issued detailed guidance (subject to frequent and last minute change) as to who s/he is prepared to share the podiums with.

On the science side - Only one of JVT, Chris or Sir Patrick, in that order of priority.

Politician is a bit trickier. Absolute no to Priti or Grant, Jenrick elicited hoots of laughter at the suggestion. Boris a non starter, leaving Matt or Rishi as possibles. Or a bring back Alok campaign. Vaccine minister discounted as the groundhog had a particularly unpleasant recent experience involving a needle and a vet.

Please tell me the dashboard has updated so I can stop this. Beeb have just announced a deaths figure.

ceeveebee · 11/02/2021 17:35

Nope, they are now saying expected at 6pm

BREAKING
UK deaths rise by 678
A further 678 people have died in the UK within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test, according to the latest government figures. It takes the death toll by that measure to 115,529.

There were also a further 13,494 cases reported.

Jenasaurus · 11/02/2021 17:37

@Florelei

13,494 new cases and 678 deaths.
Are these the figures?
boys3 · 11/02/2021 17:38

Delayed to 18:00 now, but cases and deaths as posted by @Florelei

13494 is a decent drop in terms of reported number, 20634 last Thursday, and suggests nothing likely to be odd with specimen date numbers once published

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 11/02/2021 17:40

@Florelei

13,494 new cases and 678 deaths.
Are these just the PHE figures? so not including NI, Scotland and Wales?
ceeveebee · 11/02/2021 17:45

Those are the UK figures - if you look at the screenshot I posted it says UK

ceeveebee · 11/02/2021 17:46

PHE are responsible for the dashboard for the whole UK

Cloudsurfing · 11/02/2021 17:49

Deaths are down quite a bit aren’t they?

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 11/02/2021 17:50

Gotcha. It's just such a big drop I thought some may be missing.
