Yes I’m pleasantly surprised to read that as well! He is usually quite gloomy

MarshaBradyo · 12/02/2021 10:29

Funny isn’t it how we’ve done this so long we know which scientist is where on gloom to optimism spectrum

None of them really change position. A bit like on here Grin

You get used to where people sit on gloom to positive

chri55ie · 12/02/2021 10:30

Same with friends!

Monkeytennis97 · 12/02/2021 10:30

I would say he's the most realistic. Good to see some positivity from him thoughSmile

I agree with opening primaries only -they would be mad to open all schools up at once. Fingers crossed for a more cautious reopening than last time.🤞

@FourTeaFallOut

Things are getting better. Coronavirus rates are dropping consistently each week, hospital admissions are down, deaths are down. One quarter of the adult population, including the most vulnerable in our population are already protected from the worst of this illness (or will be in 3 weeks) in line with a government target no less Shock, the bank of England are optimistic about a decent recover by the end of the year and we are only a month away from spring.
Boom! Thanks FourTea things really are getting better Smile

@Frazzled2207 that’s amazing - reduction of 96% 😊

My DC are in primary - but I do feel so sorry for secondary pupils, maybe they will do a staggered return. It’s been such a long haul for children . We absolutely should be prioritising them.

Although please open John Lewis soon !

Level75 · 12/02/2021 11:10

My mum (65) is being vaccinated tomorrow and I just checked and my dad (67 - who has no invite) can also book via the link. I'm a bit tearful!

My kids are primary and so am so hoping for them to go back above all but think situation is very worrying for all kids.
And yes John Lewis would be fantastic. I remember just after it reopened last summer going by myself just for a wander!

TheChineseChicken · 12/02/2021 11:34

On yes, big JL fans here!

carolinesbaby · 12/02/2021 11:38

With one or two notable exceptions, I think the MN teachers are just worried for their own safety and that of the children they teach. However the ones who shout seem to be angling to keep schools closed until there is zero chance of infection, which is impossible, even with safety measures. I caught Covid in my Covid-safe workplace, where everyone had been 2m apart for months and wearing masks at all times.

carolinesbaby · 12/02/2021 11:38

And I am sorry, I know this is not the right thread for that comment! Will try harder in future.

Pomegranatespompom · 12/02/2021 11:42

@Frazzled2207 there’s lots of emerging evidence that children aren’t the super spreaders they were thought to be. Will try and link.

I don’t work Fridays, I’d often have a wander round JL with a cappuccino and purchase frivolous items like lipsticks 😳

Pomegranatespompom · 12/02/2021 11:43

@Level75 that’s such good news!

InterfectoremVulpes · 12/02/2021 11:44

I'm looking forward to IKEA reopening 🤣

🥳

My mum was done last week and my Dad is getting his sunday. Its such a relief isn't it?

God, yes! One of my favourite mat leave activities - baby in car, drive 40 minutes to IKEA, mooch, lunch (meatballs if course), then 40 minutes drive home. Takes up most of the day if you do it right Grin
FourTeaFallOut · 12/02/2021 11:47

I'm down to the uht milk today, Tesco van isn't due till tomorrow. One week to go and then I'm breaking the shield with three weeks worth of Oxford vaccine under my belt and I'll never be looking disappointedly at my cup of tea ever again. Fresh milk - rock and roll.

It's hard to cater for a whole week on one food shop, isn't it? We're not shielding but obviously limiting going to shops and by the end of the week it's like Old Mother Hubbard's house. But then I feel naughty if I pop into the supermarket for just a few items
TheChineseChicken · 12/02/2021 11:53

Oh, but we get milk delivered - maybe you could look into that? It's much nicer milk (we get whole milk and it has cream on top)

FourTeaFallOut · 12/02/2021 11:59

We'd been doing ok with our 5x4l of milk but something must have happened - too many rounds of hot chocolate with the cold weather! A milk delivery might be exactly what we need, do they do chocolate? Grin

FourTeaFallOut · 12/02/2021 12:05

5 × 4 pints, I must get that right before I put an order in!

Go check out Milk and More. They deliver SO much stuff apart from milk. And yes, they do chocolate milk...
Treaclepie19 · 12/02/2021 12:19

I think we should switch to milk deliveries too!
It's bread we always run out of. I've taken to just managing without for a day or two rather than going to the shop 🙈

thatgingergirl · 12/02/2021 12:24

I've used Milk and More for about 5 or 6 years now. They do a lot of different goods, and a lot of organic and eco ranges. I love picking up my milk and apple juice off the step nice and early. It usually arrives at about 4 am!

twinmum2017 · 12/02/2021 12:42

My dad (68) got his vaccine this morning! And my mum has already had hers although younger as she's a NHS worker. The relief is immense. They did indeed have a special seating area for dad to wait in rather than queuing, it was very well organised and actually ended up being his GP who did his jab even though it wasn't at his surgery.

Mums had Pfizer and dads had Oxford
