Bit annoying for those of us last in line for the vaccine. I doubt I'll have had mine by the summer.

I think so, but am sure I will be told I am a communist:) I have family in 4 different countries, so have no option but to fly a lot.

We are outside the EU now, if they also introduce a VP, then we need to be part of those discussions now.

i think that will be the biggest stumbling block to foreign holidays but given the timescales, i suspect the eU will just allow Schengen citizens to holiday in europe, all assumes CV rates plummet.

So what happens if you've booked a holiday and you're not due to have the vaccine until later in the year?

This does seem extraordinarily harsh on the teens and young adults. Locked up for a year for an illness that is of little danger to them, the last to be vaccinated and allowed to travel, and stuck with the bill for their working lives.

I think there will be exemptions for them, pregnant women, and those who can't take the vaccine for medical reasons. I have teens. We shall have to wait and see. Seems very preliminary at the moment, but as the Times is not the Mail, I thought worth sharing.

That might encourage the spread of another strain this autumn then. Can't they just be patient and hang on for another year.

Actually, if the vaccine programme keeps up its current pace all UK adults should be vaccinated by 25 June @Waxonwaxoff0. I bloody hope so. Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to go abroad this summer? There's a good graph on this page of the NYT, if you can see it?

I mean, tourism is a massive part of the economy for many less wealthy countries so it's not really feasible to just "be patient."

Am hoping this is accurate but of course, we do not know yet. I will be last in line or almost last, as I have no conditions.

I do hope so!! I know the vaccine programme has been going well so far, I'm just not convinced that there won't be some cock up before my turn 😂

Well, I cancelled my trip to go see my elderly mother in another country which is doing better. I don't want to carry the variant to her.

Covid will always be in the community now, vaccines will be adapted and given to the vulnerable.

Once deaths and hospitalisations are very low, life has to return to normal and we will all have to accept getting ill from Cv occasionally.

But unless other countries recognise our passports, forget it.

I can just see vaccines for us healthy under 50s being delayed. I go out to work every day in a factory making sure people get all their online orders, it would be hard not to feel resentful if everyone who has the vaccine can go on holiday this summer and I can't!

The 'locked up' bit applies to the CEV, not healthy young people who have not faced anything like the same level of restriction.

I think it is sensible to have a plan.

Because this isn't going to be up to our government - it's not a parallel to an 'exit visa'. It's because other countries are expected to introduce vaccine-related restrictions on who can enter, and unless there is a robust system for UK residents to prove their vaccine status, then there are going to be destinations effectively closed to us, regardless of the vax status.

Is it fair that some people have been under different advice and in different circumstances through no fault of their own? No. But it's been happening unfairly to various groups throughout. Soon nearly,everyone will have had a turn

@fr*@Frequentflier @Waxonwaxoff0* yes I share that anxiety too! I'm 47, healthy, not a key worker and so far the govt hasn't made any commitment to those of us in the 'Phase 2' group ... But I'm keeping everything crossed and resolutely NOT booking a UK cottage for this summer. I just long to go somewhere else ...

Personally, I don’t fancy wandering around a foreign city in a face mask outside at all times in 30C heat or lying on a beach in a mask. Other countries insist on masks outside.

I'm sure I read that the younger generation are most likely to be furloughed/lost their jobs. And we know they will have to pay for it all, so seems a tad unfair.

Good. I agree with this for the short term. You can choose not to have the vaccine but in turn you lose some freedoms until you wait for those willing to have it get the no of infections down to a level that is acceptable.

Much the same as those who say my children don’t need the MMR’. They don’t need it because most of the population have had it and thus there aren’t many infections spreading anymore. Vaccines give herd immunity. If everyone took your view, kids would be getting very ill.
