For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Love this, thank you. It's so good to see the vaccines doing their thing.

Can't believe I placed my bet on Monday to pass the 6 million mark. Looks like this 'blind optimist' needs to up her game.

Better to be proven wrong because the target has been hit faster than slower Smile

Absolutely

Thanks for the positivity all, this thread is my lifeline these days. I keep finding myself falling down rabbit holes on other threads when I'm feeding the baby in the middle of the night and it's really starting to get to me.

On a sort of positive note my Dad who's 73 has an appointment for vaccine on Friday but is waiting to be unblinded on the novavax trial. They've said if he's had the trial vaccine he can't have both. Worries me a bit as we don't know the efficacy of the novavax. They recruited a lot of older people, so I really hope it's equally as effective as feels pretty unfair to be in a worse position by volunteering in the first place. I guess we wait and see.

Frazzled2207 · 24/01/2021 20:36

@Gastonimo
I'm also a volunteer on the novavax trial. Everything I have read is extremely optimistic.
I'd certainly prefer to have had two doses of novavax rather than get offered one dose of another and not know when the next was coming.

midgebabe · 24/01/2021 20:37

At this stage, , stage 3 trials , I'd be confident the norovax is useful

Gastonimo · 24/01/2021 21:02

@midgebabe and @frazzled2207 very good points thank you 😊

Frazzled2207 · 24/01/2021 21:05

@Gastonimo
I'd be interested to hear if he had the real thing or not. I had absolutely zero side effects not even a sore arm so convinced I had the placebo

midgebabe · 24/01/2021 21:05

And thanks for being on the trial

tinkerbellla · 24/01/2021 21:07

Thank you for this lovely thread! Daffodil

LetItGoGo · 24/01/2021 21:37

Feeling so much more optimistic with the vaccination numbers. Thanks for this thread.

carolinesbaby · 24/01/2021 21:51

Somebody show me some good news that takes my mind off the truly terrifying thread I just saw which says schools not reopening until September?!

Headline:

Proof the Pfizer Covid vaccine works in the real world? Israeli healthcare group says coronavirus infections have PLUNGED by at least 60% among vaccinated over-60s

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/01/2021 22:30

Have a look at today’s government update if you want good news. Everything is going in the right direction: vaccinations up, cases, hospitalisations and even death numbers falling today (weekly rolling averages for the last 3).

I don't understand how anyone could sensibly reason this. I think the thing to remember is nobody knows, it's all conjecture.

I understand how stressful those threads are, they make my anxiety shoot through the roof.

TeaInTheGarden · 24/01/2021 22:59

This thread on Twitter just really really cheered me up. It’s a bit maths heavy, but the graphs are excellent. First projection I’ve seen for the impact of the vaccine. It’s all just a projection and could be wrong, but for us positive thinkers it’s just what we need to see and hold on to right now.

And if you don’t want to read the working out bit, just look a this graph and smile before you go to sleep tonight ☺️

I lost you all! And only just realised. I've been so anxious this last week and I know it's from all the things I've been reading on here.

chri55ie · 24/01/2021 23:14

Thanks @TeaInTheGarden for the lovely graph!

TheFerretsSleeping · 24/01/2021 23:21

Marking me place again. Wow cant belive it's thread 7 now 😊

BeMyCherryBest · 24/01/2021 23:31

This thread is great, thanks everyone, I'm glad I'm here, woohoo.

2fallsagain · 24/01/2021 23:40

Has anyone seen this vac counter? No idea how accurate it is as it's going up rapidly and I don't think anyone is doing 24 vaccinations but it looks exciting!
