Just pinched this. Hopefully it is accurate.
If it is we have long way to go but excellent news
There were 873 fewer covid positive patients in London’s hospitals yesterday than there were on 18 January, a fall of 11 per cent.
The drop in London numbers is the main driver behind the national fall of 1722 (five per cent) over the same period. Covid inpatients are now declining week on week for the first time since the start of the third wave on 4 December.
The capital is now the only region where the running seven-day total of admissions has dropped below the mid-April peak. Bed occupancy by covid patients in London, however, is still 35 per cent greater than at the top of the first wave.
The two other regions where the third wave began, the south east and east, are taking longer to reduce covid patient numbers. These regions peaked 10 days ago but are currently only showing falls of seven and nine per cent respectively on their peaks.
The south west has now joined, the capital, the south east and the east in week-on-week decline.
Elsewhere in the country, there are the first indications that the third wave may have peaked in the midlands and the north too. The total number of covid positive hospital patients has fallen for four consecutive days in the north east and Yorkshire region and for the last two days in the midlands. The north west has not exceeded the figure recorded on 20 January, despite a couple of small daily rises.
Across England, there are still 72 per cent more covid hospital patients than at the peak of the first wave.
