For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

I’d advise avoiding reading the school threads.
I second that advise

We got snow last week and you lot who have it now can keep it as far as I'm concerned. I'm considering that not having snow nor is it forecast for the next few days as good news Grin

FourTeaFallOut · 24/01/2021 11:29

The more the merrier @shitzngiggles

I honestly can't get a read on schools, there's so many competing factors.

OrangeBananaFish · 24/01/2021 11:35

I think the government are thinking at an Easter return, but of course some people seem to think that means September. Of course, I'm hoping it will be sooner, but not expecting it will be. That's my take on it anyway.

I have just finished updating the hospital data charts for each region in England on www.covidmessenger.com

And I think we have some reason for cautious optimism on the hospital admissions charts in particular in quite a few regions.

Fingers crossed this trend continues.

Need this thread today, feeling very low after latest declarations by Matt Hancock - keep going everyone Smile

thatgingergirl · 24/01/2021 12:04

Really appreciate the LA sort facility on your data littleowl1.

thatgingergirl · 24/01/2021 12:05

Sorry, meant county sort facility!

HalfDutchGirl · 24/01/2021 12:05

Afternoon all, can't believe there's a new thread so quickly, just goes to prove there's a lot of us positive pants people out there!

My local surgery is opening up a vaccination hub on Monday and I've volunteered to help them out, first shift on Friday.

Sun is shining, daffodils are blooming and pictures of ponies and cats, my Sunday is a good one - thank you all!

Welikebeingcosy · 24/01/2021 12:20

Place marking!

I do get really the feeling that the govt are making a conscious effort to shift from a more optimistic to a more cautious approach. I think that is why they made a point of emphasising the 'more virulent' new variant on Friday, even though the actual evidence isn't all that straightforward. I think they worry that with falling rates and the success of the vaccination programme, people will become complacent and demand lifting of restrictions soon. The govt was criticised in the past for over promising and they seem to have learned from that and are now leaning in the opposite direction. At least I hope so!

Not as cute as Marzipan I know but this is our herd of pregnant mares and youngsters enjoying their breakfast in the snow this morning 😊😊

FuzzyPuffling · 24/01/2021 12:34

Lovely snow and animal pictures.
We have no snow here, just the occasional hailstorm.

Inastatus · 24/01/2021 12:37

@Iamclearlyamug - gorgeous ❤️
@IcedPurple - I think that way too. I hope we are right!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 24/01/2021 12:55

Aw wow @Iamclearlyamug 😍

InterfectoremVulpes · 24/01/2021 13:01

Zoe app estimating 32187 cases for today

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 24/01/2021 13:02

My faith in the Zoe app is waning a little; for about ten days it's always been at least a few hundred up on the previous week, but in reality positive cases have halved.

louisejxxx · 24/01/2021 13:07

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel same here - the govt reported cases have been higher than Zoe for the last few days, whereas it’s always been the other way around before now.

Also mid-week in my area, the number of active cases suddenly went up from 700 to over 3000 Confused

FourTeaFallOut · 24/01/2021 13:14

According to Zoe my local area is at 25k/million. Up from 5k only five days ago. I mean, call me cavalier but that doesn't seem likely to me.

Frazzled2207 · 24/01/2021 13:28

@IcedPurple
Agree.
Think on balance would prefer more cautious tone than optimism right now. But is tough when like me you’re a business owner and having thought 2021 would surely be better than 2020 right now I’m not convinced

Frazzled2207 · 24/01/2021 13:30

@HalfDutchGirl
Brilliant
I am half way through the training programme to be a volunteer with St. John ambulance is soo long winded and mostly irrelevant (fire training etc) . Would you recommend calling local surgery and just asking if they need help?

chri55ie · 24/01/2021 14:20

Another nearly 500,000 injection day yesterday!

Frazzled2207 · 24/01/2021 14:29
