For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

@FuzzyPuffling

Do I get a prize for the world's shortest flounce? :)
🤣🤣🤣

A worthy flounce @FuzzyPuffling - my apologies if my post earlier upset you, am pleased your dh has heard now too.

sashagabadon · 28/01/2021 19:55

@FuzzyPuffling

HE'S GOT IT BOOKED!

Saturday week. Coincidentally, the same date as he had his stem cell transplant. For those that asked. He's 55 and CEV.
I am so relieved. And bless him, he just said " but we need to get you yours".

That’s great news Fuzzy Smile
FuzzyPuffling · 28/01/2021 19:56

I wasn't upset, promise. No need for apologies at all. It was must making me extra anxious and I could do without that.

EekThreek · 28/01/2021 20:02

Great news about your DH @FuzzyPuffling

@Reachersloveinterest I saw that it's still dark purple, I wondered early on if it was the barracks, but the prison makes sense too! I live in a purple area, but it's been light blue most of the rest of the time so I know it's only the difference of the equivalent of a couple of households that can push it either way.

OrangeBananaFish · 28/01/2021 20:14

Sorry if its been mentioned elsewhere. Is there anything that tells you which groups are getting vaccines in localish areas? I'm just wondering where my parents and MILs (all early to mid 70s) area are up to. I only know of a couple in that area, but they both work for NHS so its not very good representation of the area.

FuzzyPuffling · 28/01/2021 20:22

Our GP surgery posts a weekly update on a local facebook page. But it's always negatively phrased and full of "don't knows". Another one of the PCN group write the same information on the same FB page in a much ore comprehensible manner.

BessMarvin · 28/01/2021 20:24

Just read the spit test article. It's good news but wish it sounded like it was going to become the new way of testing. I had to test my toddler which was no fun. She produces about a litre of dribble a day though so the saliva test would be no problem Grin

Sorry that's a bit negative. Lots of positive sounding developments going on so hooray for all of those!

@louisejxxx

I think it’s almost like a lottery - it was my mum who got the call today and had to ask if my dad could come with her to have his too (she doesn’t drive)...they had to double check he was on the list and everything before saying yes, and he’s actually a few months older than my mum!
Still waiting for people older than this, is it possible that people can be missed? Sad

Yipeeee! Oh Fuzzy I’m so pleased for you. What a weight lifted.
tobee · 28/01/2021 20:55

Would those people be able to ring their GP to check? Or email? @1990s

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 28/01/2021 20:56

1990s

A local nurse posts our hub news on Facebook. She is now tell people if they or a relative is over 80 and hasn't been done to call their GP. As hub has moved on to 70s. So they were not on list.

Also on tha vaccination thread here they are saying to try the online booking site. Apparently it does say you need a letter first but if you have your NHS number and a letters been generated but still missing it will work.

Thought this was interesting and positive- India seems to be doing well.

Novavax phase 3 trial has just reported 89% efficacy!

Novavax phase 3 trial has just reported 89% efficacy!

Brilliant

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 21:30

And it's being manufactured in Teesside.

OrangeBananaFish · 28/01/2021 21:31

I've just come on here to report Novovax

From a local mayor on FB

Novavax Vaccine has now passed all required clinical trials showing that it’s 89.3% effective.
It will now go to the independent regulator, the MHRA, for approval for use.

Another one should be on its way soon

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 21:33

Ben Houchen?

Zogstart · 28/01/2021 21:34

Oh brilliant news! Does anyone know how long it’s likely to be before they can start getting this one into arms? I seem to remember Pfizer being really quick from results announced to the first person being vaccinated.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 28/01/2021 21:36

Does anyone know how much novavax the UK have ordered?

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 21:36

60m, I think

OrangeBananaFish · 28/01/2021 21:37

Yes @FourTeaFallOut I live localish to that area so follow him on FB.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 21:39

Nearly 4,000 people in the study were over the age of 65.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 21:39

Me too
