Endless Propaganda

I cannot believe the endless Covid propaganda on the news channels at the moment. There doesn't seem to be any challenge to the stay at home/don't kill Gran/crying nurses narrative at all.

I am pretty disgusted by the emotional manipulation and attempts at behaviour modification going on.

Or am I being unreasonable...

People with cancer are being undiagnosed and left to die more so than ever before. And other health conditions. Plus Brexit. Insulin for Type 1 diabetics is a borderline issue right now.

Whatever capitalist screws have been turning up to now, the pandemic has given the bastards a fucking top end Makita.

Dontstepinthecowpat · 24/01/2021 02:28

I came on to MN just now to wind down after a shift on a Covid ward. Probably shouldn’t have bothered.

I’m heartbroken for my DC and all they are missing out on. I’m desperate to see my parents and MIL. I’m so worried about the effects of this on people’s mental health including my own children.

I also find it quite easy to avoid the ‘propaganda’ and in fact I’ve only seen it mentioned on here. I don’t watch the news or live tv so fast forward all the ads. I’d never heard of the ‘look into their eyes’ ads until I saw this thread.

LunaNorth · 24/01/2021 03:04

What worries me about those posters is the impact on child mental health.

Most kids of 6 or so can read. God knows what those doom-laden messages will do to them. I was an anxious kid - the AIDS adverts were bad enough for me, and I wasn’t exactly at risk. If I’d been subjected to the current round of propaganda, I think I would have had some kind of breakdown.

BritWifeinUSA · 24/01/2021 03:11

This thread is like playing Doomer bingo. It’s got it all: the NHS is about to collapse, Wuhan welded people into their homes and now they’re “COVID-free” (yeah, sure they are love) so why didn’t we do that?, “morons”, “conspiracy theorist” (ie anyone who dares not worship St. Boris of the Neverending Lockdowns, and many more. And the best of all “global/world-wide pandemic” - could you be more redundant?

I’ve lived in China. If you believe a single word that comes out of the media there then you have bigger problems than a virus.

The NHS goes through ebbs and flows every year. Winters are typically a busier time for the health service, as we see from past years.

Endless Propaganda
Beaniecats · 24/01/2021 05:32

@MadameBlobby

I am pissed off that the government are the ones who fucked up and caused mass deaths, not us, and yet we are the ones guilt tripped and terrified into compliance. Fucking bastards.

The latest ad “can you look them in the eye” yes I fucking can actually. I’ve barely been over my door for months, and same for my husband and children as they’ve been banned from going to school or work.

What a total fucking farce.

Well bloody said
inquietant · 24/01/2021 05:42

But we're not even allowed to question the narrative, are we?

I think questioning whether the government's approach to virus control and things like T&T, isolation funding, schools is right is legitimate.

I have zero patience for those questioning whether lockdown was needed at all, or claiming the NHS isn't close to breaking -that is in alternative facts territory.

I question the blame being put onto the public, certainly. But I support the measures in place.

Userzzz · 24/01/2021 06:01

Agree OP

Justa47 · 24/01/2021 07:09

@Bewareoftheblob

You are being unreasonable

trulydelicious · 24/01/2021 08:16

@InTheDrunkTank

There has not been any evidence that lockdown has caused 200,000 deaths.

I agree with your post.

stairway · 24/01/2021 08:18

I know a few people who have died, they were all in their 60s and all but one was still working. However life expectancy actually increased in 2020 oddly enough. So some perspective is needed.

trulydelicious · 24/01/2021 08:19

@MadameBlobby

Boris has her dad’s blood on his hands. Not us. And yet we are the ones being guilt tripped by the propaganda

Yes, sure, because the two of them have gone round all over the country with a little flask disseminating the virus amongst people...

It's people's actions (and in many cases stupidity, recklessness and selfishness) that cause transmission, not 'the government' FFS

What does capitalism and Brexit have to do with a virus? Your post sounds deranged

TheKeatingFive · 24/01/2021 08:24

No, it’s a virus that causes it.

HTH.

... And here is the bit that doesn't add up for me:
With increased hygiene, social distancing and mask wearing, my DC have failed to bring home any sniffles for tummy bugs. DC are at school btw, we attend our place of work. (We also stick religiously to the rules as a family - not seeing friends or extended family.)

Half of this thread is people who actually believe the government propaganda. Truth is, we don't know what would have happened if we had not introduced lockdown.

Well firstly they ask us to vaccinate so to protect the NHS and the next door neighbours...they dangle the carrot: when we have the vaccine it will be better!

Now:"You can spread Covid even if you've had a jab, says Van-Tam"

Ignore me. Wrong thread!!

Well, you can.

That was always the case.

Yes same here, which is good obviously as we don't want to be sick.

You are right we don't know what would have happened if lockdowns hadn't been introduced but now we know the effects it has after not 1 month but 1long year of being in it.
Why not looking at different approaches and allow people to go to work and make a living?

echt · 24/01/2021 08:55

It's not about you, FFS.

As you well know Hmm

trolltrollingsheep · 24/01/2021 08:57

@echt yes yes yes that's what I said all along and why but why pushing us to vaccinate?
Even if you get the vaccine you can still spread it and you can still get Covid.

So if someone doesn't want to take the vaccine, for personal reasons, why are companies out there (like Saga and Quantas) said if you want to go on holiday with them you have to be vaccinated? Why are these type of restrictions starting to be imposed?

trulydelicious · 24/01/2021 09:00

@trolltrollingsheep

Most are talking nonsense at the moment as it's early days and it's not understood properly yet (or a publicity stunt like the Pimlico Plumbers guy)

MissEspresso · 24/01/2021 09:04

*That is terrible.

Boris has her dad’s blood on his hands. Not us. And yet we are the ones being guilt tripped by the propaganda*

I totally agree @MadameBlobby. The decision to keep schools open right to the end and then still allow Christmas Day mixing has resulted in the horrific deaths we are seeing now. This story is repeated up and down the country.
I just hope people know what can happen when we do mix and even one day getting together can lead to this sad ending.

trolltrollingsheep · 24/01/2021 09:13

@trulydelicious I truly hope so! I don't know why these large corporations are coming out with statements as these,

It makes me question the way this world is going atm

But the people who aren’t following the rules won’t give a shit. Tbh I don’t really give a shit. I’m doing what I’m told and that’s all I can do.
