I don’t know if this has been posted already but I posted the other day about how to prove face mask exemptions and basically got told they can’t ask for proof well it seems that is wrong and they can ask you what your disability is and ask for proof.

I don't believe that everyone in the supermarket or on public transport etc without a mask, has a medical exemption, so I'm glad people have to prove it.

Sorry but good, too many people using it as an excuse. But i do think there should be free exception cards sent to those with qualifying disabilities as it's unfair people took the pee out of the green lanyard. My daughter who has Asd won't even wear it now so i can't even take her to the shop i have to get my mum to babysit

Givemeabreak88 · 19/01/2021 19:26

But the point is doctors aren’t going proof so how do you prove it Confused

XenoBitch · 19/01/2021 19:27

Sainsbury's were in the wrong here and went against what the Gov guidelines about face coverings and having to show or prove exemption are.

musicalfrog · 19/01/2021 19:29

This hasn't only happened in Sainsbury's. Also Aldi.

Evvyjb · 19/01/2021 19:30

Good.

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/01/2021 19:30

People who genuinely have an exemption are usually quite happy to explain it. They also don’t use supply describe themselves as “anti-maskers.” People like this woman, who just say “I’m exempt”, or refuse to answer, or say “you can’t make me”, almost never have a valid exemption and should be refused entry.

MyDcAreMarvel · 19/01/2021 19:31

Good I have a disability and I wasn’t shielding would be more than happy to prove it.

There is a previous thread here:

All hospital letters are copied to individuals these days.
Everyone can access their gp records with all their medical diagnoses on them.
I do understand that a minority of people who have suffered trauma may not have any evidence, but the majority will.
I have all my consultant's letters in a folder. They all have a summary at the top.
Unfortunately, the genuine people have been sabotaged by the liars and the frauds.

Thank you I will have a look, I don’t normally post in the chat section so hadn’t seen it

Whether you believe it or not is neither here nor there. You cannot know another person's situation.

Mental illness rates are sky high and there is a direct correlation between mental illness (particularly ptsd/anxiety and panic disorder) and inability to wear a mask.

There is also a direct link between anxiety and controlling personalities which perhaps explains the likes of people who concern themselves inappropriately with what others are doing/not doing.

In a nutshell, very many people are struggling to cope. Let's not make it harder by demonising each other. None of us know what another is going through.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 19/01/2021 19:37

How would a woman who has been abused, suffocated, and struggles massively with wearing a mask because of this, be able to prove her reasons?

Genuine question.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 19/01/2021 19:40

Are there any countries with a total mask policy? Ie no exceptions to the rule aside for age to cover children not having to wear them.

If there are I'm glad I don't live in them.

And I'm someone who is happy and able to wear a mask.

Nancydrawn · 19/01/2021 19:45

Delighted to hear it. I'm so sick of the selfishness of anti-maskers.

They hurt people who legitimately can't wear one and they increase the spread of covid.

They also rely on the rest of us, who dislike wearing masks but are willing to sacrifice some of our own comfort for the general welfare, to behave so that the numbers don't skyrocket.

Absolute selfish dicks.

WorraLiberty · 19/01/2021 19:48

My local shopkeeper refused to serve someone this morning because he claimed to be exempt, when in reality he'd just forgotten his mask, as he eventually admitted.

Well the numbers have skyrocketed, despite you clearly being such a selfless and marvellous person @Nancydrawn

I'd love to know how many 'anti-maskers' there actually are, going by mumsnet you'd think they number around 50% of people but when I've been to the shops they've been an absolute tiny minority. Who most likely have a valid reason or clearly have forgotten. What are they supposed to do, drive back home to get one? There'll be some on here accusing them of putting the nhs at risk for driving and risking a car crash. Can't really win it seems.

lockeddownandcrazy · 19/01/2021 19:54

Finally some common sense to protect the majority of people who do comply with mask wearing.

Shops round here I would say a third are non mask or not wearing effectively. Hopefully other shops will be following suit and compliance will go up as those non mask wearers who find they cannot get in without one may well miraculously find they can actually wear one after all.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 19/01/2021 19:57

Miramour, I'm not saying that people with a genuine need, shouldn't have an exemption. But they should have to prove it and GPs should facilitate that. Otherwise the piss takers just do whatever they want.
My brother is currently very ill with Covid. He was going to work every day on the tube with lots of people not wearing masks. My nan has died from it.
I don't want to catch this because some fucker thinks they don't have to justify their behaviour. The police can stop people and ask why they are leaving their home, I consider Sainsbury's have a right to ask people to cover their faces or explain why they don't have to!

Yes there's already a long thread on this which has already been linked.

Basically the government has told people who are unable to wear a mask that they should not be routinely asked for proof so no matter how much of a git this particular woman is she is correct about the law.

Also stop reading the sun.

FraggleShingleBellRock · 19/01/2021 20:03

All the people that say I should have to show proof I am exempt from wearing a mask.....

..... I didn't keep any proof that a family friend crept into my childhood bedroom and pushed me face first first against the wall with his big fat hand over my mouth, so he could force my nighty up, tear my knickers down and penetrate me from behind.

What proof of that would you have me give to a customer service agent at Asda entrance? The police report? The printed paragraph from above? The report my psychiatrist gave me after 26 weeks of intensive therapy that saved my life? A diagnosis list that shows that repeated rapes left me dealing with ptsd, bipolar, chronic insomnia, a very real phobia of my face being covered etc? Or should I just show them the self harm scars? Maybe I could engrave "exempt" into my thigh for you all? Could show them puncture marks from the blood tests I've had to have today as despite the therapy, 30 years on, I still drink too much as I'm terrified to sleep.

Or maybe you could all fuck off with your hate.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 19/01/2021 20:05

@FraggleShingleBellRock I'm so sorry for everything you've been through.

This is why I'm sick of all the nastiness and hysteria on here about people who don't wear masks.
