I don’t know if this has been posted already but I posted the other day about how to prove face mask exemptions and basically got told they can’t ask for proof well it seems that is wrong and they can ask you what your disability is and ask for proof.

@PaddingtonsSister how thick are you?

Did you miss the bit where a PP rightly pointed out she has no desire to carry around a card which reminds her of the horrendous abuse she suffered?

In years to come we'll look back on this pandemic and one of the worst memories will be of the vile nasty people who want to shout about other people being 'Covidiots' stupid fucking word and 'selfish' and 'granny killers'. These people will be a far worse memory than the virus itself.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 19/01/2021 21:51

Oh and who can't see the irony when describing others as idiots and selfish.

Calmandmeasured1 · 19/01/2021 22:03

An exemption letter from your Psychiatrist stating you are exempt will do @FraggleShingleBellRock. It does not have to state your conditions or what caused those conditions. What you have been through is truly horrific and I really feel for you......but there is still no reason why you should not provide proof that you are exempt.

BonnieDundee · 19/01/2021 22:11

I wear a mask because I can but all the doctors that I work with say they are useless. Even the saintly Whitty said last year they were ineffective. Now that hes apparently changed his tune everybody has jumped on the bandwagon and proclaimed "YOU'RE KILLING GRANNY" if you dont wear one.

I wear one because its mandatory but I'm capable of rational thought and have an idea when I'm being bullshitted

And crucially I have some empathy for people who may be unable to wear them and the hate for those people on MN is nothing short of disgusting in many cases

HSHorror · 19/01/2021 22:18

Probably not for those with long covid or dead relative though.?

The reason people are annoyed with the chancers is
Some of them are literally killing others
But other than that our kids are all out of school
The kids will then have to pay a fortune for all this debt
There might be no pensions
Nhs etc

We are all sat home with everything shut.
My relative with copd can wear one. Certainly prefers it to death as cev anyway. (Obviously physiological issues different).
Everyone without a mask should try to avoid the shops including kids.
Lets raise the fines let the maskless pay for the lockdowns. And obviously the people not isolating when they should.

Girlyracer · 19/01/2021 22:24

Good, it'll sort the wheat from the chaf and probably keep more people indoors to online shop/get a neighbour/a relative.

The aim of all of this is to manage this virus. The more people at home until we're jabbed the better.

Redburnett · 19/01/2021 22:25

The answer is simple, wear a mask or do not go shopping and potentially expose others to the virus if you have it and are asymptomatic. Exemptions are irrelevant. Get someone else to shop for you, get a delivery, order stuff online such as ready meals etc etc. The key issue is preventing the spread of the virus.

WouldBeGood · 19/01/2021 22:26

Sainsbury’s has gone mad and I won’t be shopping there again

  • I do wear a mask

Sigh

Lol sort the wheat from the chaf?

I think threads like these do a good job of that. Of bringing out those who are incapable of looking at anything with any balance or rationality, and who are unable to have empathy with more than one group of people or cause/argument/whatever you want to call it.

It's perfectly possible to willingly wear a mask, think those who don't for no good reason are idiots, and still think that people with genuine reason for not wearing a mask should not have to evidence this.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 19/01/2021 22:57

So what do you do about all the people who just don't want to wear a mask? Do people like my brother have to accept being seriously ill because some other people object to carrying cards?
My brother works in a hospital - going to work (and he has to use the tube) is essential. I don't see that anyone else has a right to put him at more risk

LangClegsInSpace · 19/01/2021 22:59

@MrsKypp - Less than what has been given to useless friends of Boris et al to do things they couldn't and didn't carry out.

Covid19 isn't going away that quickly. Unfortunatley. It will continue to cause havoc in the years that come, especially in winter. Vaccines will mitigate somewhat, but proper mask wearing is never a bad thing.

Right, so you are happy to invest a fuckton of time and resources into a verified mask exemption system (with photo ID) because you think mask wearing is never a bad thing and will continue 'in the years to come'.

Thank you for your honesty.

Is anybody else up for this? Do most people think we should be planning for mandatory mask wearing in the years to come? How many years are we talking about?

WouldBeGood · 19/01/2021 22:59

I think those who can’t wear a mask should have a brand put on their hand and be visibly unclean.

Doyouavocado · 19/01/2021 23:02

The people exempt should have a photo pass thing to wear round their necks, problem solved and no questions need to be asked.

WouldBeGood · 19/01/2021 23:04

@Doyouavocado you don’t see any grim historical echoes from that?

Macaroni46 · 19/01/2021 23:04

@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind it has nothing to do with empathy! It's to do with controlling the virus!
Right now, if you can't wear a mask, don't go into a shop.

WouldBeGood · 19/01/2021 23:05

Lots of vile people on here.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 19/01/2021 23:05

I would consider it a good thing if it became normal to wear a mask if you had a cold or something in the future.
I really hate being in food shops and having other people coughing and sneezing, even pre Covid. I think it's good etiquette to not spread illness if you can avoid it by wearing a mask.

WouldBeGood · 19/01/2021 23:07

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously I’d advise not going to shops if you’re so phobic of illness. Get deliveries. Health anxiety is a nasty thing, but can be treated

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 19/01/2021 23:08

Having exemption ID is no worse than having a driving licence.

WouldBeGood · 19/01/2021 23:09

Bollocks. It’s like a stigma for suffering from disability or trauma and is vile

oldegg123 · 19/01/2021 23:11

@FraggleShingleBellRock

All the people that say I should have to show proof I am exempt from wearing a mask.....

..... I didn't keep any proof that a family friend crept into my childhood bedroom and pushed me face first first against the wall with his big fat hand over my mouth, so he could force my nighty up, tear my knickers down and penetrate me from behind.

What proof of that would you have me give to a customer service agent at Asda entrance? The police report? The printed paragraph from above? The report my psychiatrist gave me after 26 weeks of intensive therapy that saved my life? A diagnosis list that shows that repeated rapes left me dealing with ptsd, bipolar, chronic insomnia, a very real phobia of my face being covered etc? Or should I just show them the self harm scars? Maybe I could engrave "exempt" into my thigh for you all? Could show them puncture marks from the blood tests I've had to have today as despite the therapy, 30 years on, I still drink too much as I'm terrified to sleep.

Or maybe you could all fuck off with your hate.

I'm so sorry Flowers

PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder - any of these disorders are a valid reason for not wearing a mask and if you were challenged and able to say that, would mean you don't have to disclose upsetting details and have a valid reason to not be wearing one.

Same for anyone who genuinely cannot wear a mask due similar circumstances

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 19/01/2021 23:11

I'm not phobic - I'd just prefer my food not to get coughed or sneezed on by people with colds.
While you're here though WouldBeGood, it's pretty grim to liken having a mask exemption card (which would contain no details) to the behaviour of the Nazis, which I presume is what you were getting at.

WouldBeGood · 19/01/2021 23:13

Stigmatising people for differences had been done across many societies and is awful. I’d hoped we were better than that.

Willyoujustbequiet · 19/01/2021 23:13

Good

Im a victim of a very serious sexual assault. I get panic attacks and have PTSD. But my trauma doesn't trump others right to life and safety from a deadly virus. Suck it up. Wear a mask/visor or stay home.

Bloody selfishness
