Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and the side effects

LeSquigh · 19/01/2021 06:44

Morning all

Many of my colleagues have now received the first dose of the Oxford vaccine and every single one of them has reported side effects, quite a large number have had to take time off work and been bedridden. Are we in the minority or is this true for all that have it? Not really looking forward to my turn!

Thanks for this thread. I hadn’t known about the symptoms or I would have insisted we booked our appointments on different days.

Myself (34) and OH (41) had the vaccine at 9am yesterday. I had a headache for most of the the day. Bit wobbly. He felt off colour.

Today he’s sweating buckets and has a raised temp. Both of us are very hot but feel like we can’t get warm. Still have a cracking headache and feel fluey for want of a better description. My arm really hurts too.

Hopefully be gone tomorrow.

NoseinBook3 · 20/02/2021 16:57

Oh and we both had the Oxford one.

Blossomhill123 · 20/02/2021 17:36

I had the AstraZeneca jab yesterday morning .
Last night around 2am I woke up drenched in sweat I had never felt so hot in my life , I didn’t know where I was at first didn’t know who’s house I was in ! .
It completely freaked me out .

allgoodinthehood · 20/02/2021 19:32

I had the Oxford vaccine yesterday at 5 pm .
so happy to have it I practically skipped into the place. Still very glad I had it but jeeze it feels like a hangover when you've gone overboard the night before.
Headache , nausea and achy.
Hoping it all wears off by tomorrow.

Kathy2020 · 20/02/2021 19:41

@allgoodinthehood I got my AZ vaccine Tuesday and a hangover is exactly how I’d describe my side effects
Like a heavy enough hangover with none of the fun from the night before Smile
I had nausea, tiredness and muscle pains for around 36hours.
My arm was really sore I couldn’t tie up my hair for 2 days as it hurt to lift my arms up
Apparently some people are finding they’re getting their periods earlier than usual (mine came a couple of days early)

CKBJ · 20/02/2021 21:48

My dm had her vaccination this morning she now has uncontrollable shivers and slightly raised temperature hopefully short lived

TwinkleMerrick · 21/02/2021 10:19

I had my vaccine yesterday 12pm, headache came on late last evening. Woke up at 5am feeling nauseous and dizzy. Taken paracetamol, eaten some toast and spending the day in bed. I always have reactions to any medication, same happened with the flu jab. Well worth a day or 2 in bed if you ask me. So happy to have it, I hope this thread doesn't put people off. A couple of days in bed versus potential of being hospitalised is worth it.

SpecialToffee · 21/02/2021 10:24

DH had the AZ jab yesterday morning and developed a temperature about 12 hours later. Had a reasonable night and felt OK first thing but now feeling a bit hot and shivery again. Has still been out for a bike ride though 🙄

Martinisarebetterdirty · 21/02/2021 11:15

I had mine yesterday at about 2pm, didn’t feel a thing all fine until about 9pm when I was frozen and shaking. This lasted all night interspersed with red hot sweats and a heavy feeling in my head. My arm is also very painful. I’m feeling a lot better now, still a heavy head and tired with a sore arm and hopefully it doesn’t come back!
I’m definitely not against vaccines but am glad I had it on a weekend.

ancientgran · 21/02/2021 11:31

I've had no problems after AZ jab, top of my arm feels a bit swollen but not pain, no fever. DH felt rough after his but he's mid 70s and disabled so rough days aren't unusual so no idea if it was related to the jab. He also had AZ.

ancientgran · 21/02/2021 11:35

@Thedogshow

Do you think it’s possible a lot of us young, fit, healthy people have had mega side effects because we may have already had covid mildly?

I have had a couple of illnesses that I have had to do covid tests for due to all covid symptoms over past year, but tests were negative. But I do wonder whether actually I had it which is why I’ve had such a big reaction to the vaccine.

To those saying ‘maybe you’re all just making it up/don’t know what flu is/are a bit wet’, I have had flu and was really bed-bound for 3 weeks a few years ago, had glandular fever as a teenager and have given birth 3x. The reaction to this felt for a few hours like flu, where you cannot move, but was over very quickly. And is obviously not frightening because you know it’s just the vaccine (as long as there are useful threads like this to tell you you’re reaction is normal!).

I am so pleased there is a vaccine. Would take a couple of days of horrid side effects any day to avoid any more lockdowns and deaths of older people.

My son had covid, confirmed by test, and he had no symptoms after his jab. Maybe some people are worse if they've already had covid but obviously not everyone.
QuestionableDanceMoves · 21/02/2021 14:52

I got mine on Friday, barely felt the needle go in. A couple of hours later my arm felt achey and heavy, then it started to hurt, woke me up when I rolled over in the night.
Yesterday I felt rough, like a hangover, arm was very very sore to move and then I was boiling all night, sweating so much I barely slept.
Got up this morning and felt back to normal but going to do the supermarket shop has wiped me out. Arm is much less sore today though.
I’m just glad I got the vaccine. I’ll happily take any side effects

dangerrabbit · 21/02/2021 14:55

I had it on Thursday and other than having a sore arm and being a bit tired have been fine

MrsMartinRohde · 21/02/2021 15:13

I had mine yesterday afternoon. By 10.30pm I had a splitting headache, which ramped up and meant I didn't get much sleep. Arm aching. Temperature up to 38.1c but didn't really feel especially hot. Very achey in arms and legs this morning so have stayed in bed and got some sleep, and now temp is normal and I feel a lot better, just still got a headache and sore arm.

Massively relieved to have got it and good timing that it fell on the weekend as I wouldn't have wanted to work today.

Caramel81 · 21/02/2021 15:15

My neighbour had the AZ one last week and felt awful a few hours later like she had the flu. She felt really ill for about 5 days. My mum had the Pfizer and had no side effects

thegcatsmother · 21/02/2021 15:51

I sometimes feel rough after my flu jab,so wasn't surprised to feel rough after this.

Choconuttolata · 21/02/2021 16:58

I think it is important that people are aware of the possible side effects so they can prepare for child care, time off work etc...

DH had the AZ one the other day. He had an allergic reaction which resolved with antihistamines, fever, headache, body aches, fatigue and diarrhoea which have all now resolved. He does have lots of allergies though so it wasn't unexpected.

He was hospitalised with Covid, was very unwell and has had ongoing complications due to Covid.

On balance having the vaccine a better experience for him than the viral infection.

I was due to have mine at the same time, but I am glad I delayed so that someone was well enough to look after the children.

I will likely be having mine this week. My Covid symptoms were not as severe as DH (I was not hospitalised), but I also have ongoing complications due to the viral infection. I would rather not have Covid again. I normally have the flu vaccine each year with no issues.

My dad had the Pfizer one and had no side effects. His female friend had theirs two days before and was unwell with fever, aches etc.. for 5 days

Everyone's immune system is different so the reactions will vary.

extentioncord · 21/02/2021 20:21

I was exhausted the day after mine, had a bit of a sore head and a bit of an irritated tongue. I was fine after spending a few hours extra in bed.

TheTempest · 23/02/2021 10:50

I had the AZ jab yesterday at 3pm. I felt fine yesterday and overnight other than a sore arm. I feel like absolute crap today, headache sore throat, dizziness and generally feel exhausted. Hot and unwell. I’m glad I have a day off today! Still worth it though. I’m 33 but have underlying health conditions.

nitsandwormsdodger · 23/02/2021 11:44

I was out of action for day after jab
Totally worth it and would do it all again
Would urge anyone who is slow to get jab to hurry up

CKBJ · 23/02/2021 13:48

Update dm had vaccine on az on Saturday uncontrollable whole body shakes and high temp Saturday night. On day 3 today and temp gone no appetite and no energy. Tried to go for a walk but couldn’t. She says whole body feels heavy and she feels sick. Normally fit and well.

palacegirl77 · 23/02/2021 13:51

Partner had the AZ jab 10 days ago. Not one single side effect. In fact I wonder if the injection even went in. He was determined he wouldnt have any side effects though before hand so probably a bit of mind over matter.

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 23/02/2021 13:55

My DH had the AZ vaccine at the weekend. He felt quite tired and had to have a nap in the afternoon (although TBF that can often happen with his disabilities anyway), but otherwise had no side effects at all, not even a sore arm.

BetterCare · 23/02/2021 13:58

My Dad has the Oxford vaccine and had absolutely no side effects. I had the AZ one on Saturday felt a little off but nothing major and could also put that down to peri-menopausal symptoms.

I think there are some people who genuinely get side effects but I also think the power of suggestion can play a part with others.

Flossie44 · 23/02/2021 14:10

But a fever on a thermometer wouldn’t be power of suggestion
